Power Progression
Cultivation-method layers are distinct from cultivation realms: reaching the seventh layer of the Qi Refining Method did not mean Jiang Man had already reached Qi Refining’s seventh realm layer.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Qi Refining Method — seventh layer | 6 | Rapidly improved after exchanging a Flame-Treading Spirit Steed rearing method for a year’s cultivation fees. |
| Qi Refining — second layer | 13 | Opened his second cultivation gourd. His raw punching strength increased to roughly four or five times its previous level. |
| Qi Refining — third layer | 20 | Reached within about a month, bringing him close to the Sixth Courtyard’s top ten. |
| Qi and Blood Method — beginner → third layer | 20 | Used moving exercises to make spiritual qi resonate with and nourish his body. |
| Qi Refining — sixth layer | 30 | Opened his sixth gourd after cultivating through the night following his release from detention. |
| Qi Refining — seventh layer | 59 | Officially ranked first of twenty-six in the Sixth Courtyard. His assessment score was 79, with the comment “Genius.” |

Background / History
Bei Village and the Cloudfront Office
Jiang Man grew up in Bei Village with a mental impairment that left him with few clear childhood memories. Old Yellow Ox remained his strongest recollection from that period. His early life was impoverished, and he later recalled being bullied without remembering the perpetrators 83 109.
After regaining clarity, Jiang Man discovered a Fate Pattern in his mind but initially saw no accompanying talent. The Heavenly Mirror of a Hundred Books then manifested in his sea of consciousness. At the time, he feared that failing to achieve Qi Introduction within three days would cost him his newfound clarity 2.
At the Cloudfront Office’s Sixth Courtyard, his rapid progress repeatedly prompted rumors that the Luo Lineage was secretly funding him as a retainer or prospective son-in-law. He rejected that explanation and later declared that he belonged to the Jiang Household, not the Luo Lineage 20 32 64. Loans, pills, and exchanges helped finance his cultivation; he also repaid substantial debts before leaving for the sect 6 96.
Wuyun Sect and Teaching
Jiang Man left Falling Cloud City for the Wuyun Sect after saying farewell to Old Yellow Ox, his teachers, and the Guard Office. Teacher Fu gave him a book on the Heavenly Heart Seal, while Yu Wanyi supplied a resource token and Foundation Establishment guidance 99.
At the Foundation Establishment Small Courtyard, he explained his understanding of the Advancement Method and cultivated alongside the students. Their improved assessments impressed Teacher Miao. Yan Yiqiu ordered that the results remain secret and withheld Jiang Man from that year’s competition rather than immediately reveal his progress 115.
Evil Gods and the Inspector Appointment
During a Secret Realm encounter, Jiang Man accepted an Evil God’s proposal to act undercover in the Wuyun Sect in exchange for rewards. Although she placed a controllable lock on him, he later manifested its chains and broke them himself after Old Yellow Ox warned that it could obstruct his cultivation 149.
He subsequently received an Inspector appointment under Drunken Floating Life. His jurisdiction covered the Three Lower Sects under the Dao One Immortal Gate, and his credentials permitted limited mobilization of Mountain-Suppressing Office forces without ordinary attendance and reporting requirements 193.
Moonlit Sect and the Sword Mound
Jiang Man entered the Moonlit Sect using a fabricated background: a nineteen-year-old sixth-layer Qi Refining cultivator who had failed the Cloudfront Office selection and ventured out rather than return to his village. Although he failed the spiritual-root test, he passed the mountain-climbing assessment and became an outer disciple while concealing his real cultivation 229 230.
His Sword Mound activities produced the Iron Sword and a Broken Sword identified as a keepsake of Meng Qiewei’s father. He also used the Magpie Bridge to maintain contact with Ting Fengyin, who instructed him to conceal Drunken Floating Life’s identity and pursue missions involving Meng Qiewei and the Bai Family Ancestor 236 261.
Assassination Attempts and the Ji Family
As Jiang Man became known as Meng Qiewei’s husband, threats against him increasingly involved her enemies and the politics surrounding powerful families. Ren Qian warned him that his marital identity, not merely his reputation as the Wuyun Sect’s prodigy, was attracting attention 283 297.
Investigations later traced possible involvement in the attacks to the ancient Xiang Family. In another Secret Realm, Jiang Man survived a lethal confrontation with Zeng Min and Xiang Lingling, used concealed formations to trap Xiang Lingling, and recovered the attackers’ Storage Law Treasures. The Village’s medicine and pills restored him over the following months 410 480 481.
When Ji Meng entered an ancient killing formation targeting the Ji Family bloodline, Jiang Man followed her voluntarily. He eventually exposed his Evil God Method despite the danger to his concealed identity, refusing to remain a spectator while she fought 493 494.
Immortal Ascension and Later Cultivation
Jiang Man became a Human Immortal amid an organized attempt to kill him. Peak Master Bai’s forces countered hostile formations while other defenders held back approaching immortals. True Person Taihua subsequently took him away from the area 499 500.
His achievements made him an official Peak Master Election participant. Later, within the Ancestral Dragon’s domain, Dragon Clan origin power accelerated his cultivation, and Tantai Xue supplied the token needed for his True Immortal advancement 525 543 544.
His growing collection of dangerous powers became a concern in its own right. Old Yellow Ox warned that Zhulong’s Dragon Egg, the Immeasurable Kalpa Stone, and his other entanglements could endanger both Jiang Man and those connected to him. Ting Fengyin later taught him how those powers could complement one another, while stressing the consequences of losing control 523 572.
Appearance
- Plain clothing: Wore coarse cloth and hemp garments even among finely dressed competitors, leading others to assume he was a poor retainer or dependent 32 64.
- Persistent habit: Continued wearing plain clothes after becoming a Golden Core Ancestor because he was accustomed to them, rather than deliberately cultivating a shabby appearance 187.
- Battle manifestations: The True Martial Art covers his body in golden light; later techniques can manifest revolving stars, suns, or an enormous Five Elements Dharma Body 148 369 499.
Personality
Jiang Man treats cultivation as his overriding priority. He routinely cultivates through the night, considers earning and borrowing Spirit Sources merely ways to support advancement, and even practices during lessons when it does not interfere with his formation analysis 43 193 459. His confidence is equally persistent: he openly calls himself a Peerless Heavenly Prodigy and refuses to alter his course because others admire or disparage him 176 214.
He is resource-conscious without treating every relationship as a transaction. He distinguishes borrowing from Little Fatty as a friend from accepting investment by Little Fatty’s family, recognizing that the latter would create obligations of interest 35. At the same time, he readily charges for information, accepts paid meetings, and looks for opportunities to earn rewards from sect business 37 193 437.
His bravado does not prevent caution. He flees opponents who clearly outmatch him, protects his hidden identities, and acknowledges that superior realms and methods have often compensated for weaknesses in his practical combat skills 189 327. His loyalty to Meng Qiewei can override that caution: he intervenes on her behalf even when her avatar’s survival does not technically require him to risk exposure 493.
Abilities & Skills
Peerless Heaven’s Chosen Destiny
A Fate Pattern associated with Jiang Man’s exceptional path of cultivation. He describes it less as a comfortable blessing than as something constantly pursuing him 139 477.
- Its cultivation demands can be agonizing: one stage required eighty rounds of tempering, causing severe abdominal and head pain 139.
- It allowed him to enter and perceive aspects of the Ji Family Bloodline Killing Array 493.
- A former bearer warned that many predecessors ultimately failed; Jiang Man nevertheless believes he can unravel its mysteries 477 493.
- Old Yellow Ox warned that exceeding its limits could draw the attention of the Great Evil God and other figures on the List 571.
Heavenly Mirror of a Hundred Books
A vast book within his sea of consciousness that appraises and records objects, beings, and powers 2.
- Identification: Recognized Meng Qiewei’s father’s Broken Sword and exposed the identity of the Ji Family Bloodline Killing Array’s spirit 236 495.
- Evaluation: Dismissed the spirit-steed rearing method Jiang Man presented to it as rubbish 6.
- Talent rewards: Recording suitable treasures grants cultivation-method or spell-arts purple qi, further unlocking his talent 245 437.
- Self-appraisal: Can evaluate Jiang Man himself, although its descriptions remain unflattering even at the Heavenly Immortal level 576.
Spell-Arts Learning and Combat
His Spell-Art Innate Qi gives him a deep familiarity with spell circulation and helps shorten the intervals between casts. Early advice from Old Yellow Ox favored brief fights in which Jiang Man repeatedly disrupted opponents with his strongest attacks 45.
| Art | Documented Use or Mastery |
|---|---|
| Six Harmonies Palm | Combined with Three Talents Force in his early fighting style; used to defeat Fang Tianyi 45 64. |
| Dragon-Suppressing Method | Reached the ninth layer early in his Sixth Courtyard training; later used against a Moonlit Sect roommate 43 230. |
| Collapsing Flow Technique | Reached the fifth layer during early training; used to crush a demon beast beneath his foot 43 148. |
| Wandering Dragon | Ninth layer by late Foundation Establishment; used for movement, battlefield repositioning, and escape 136 148 189. |
| Shadowless Palm | Ninth layer by late Foundation Establishment; employed through attacks including Shadowless Thousand Palms 136 148. |
| Heavenly Heart Seal | Received Teacher Fu’s instructional book and later reached the ninth layer 99 136. |
| Five Elements Unification | Ninth layer unites the five elements through generation and restraint. Its diagram overcame the Secret Realm’s obstructing fog, but its ordinary combat output initially disappointed him 133 136. |
| Azure Smoke Zither | Transforms him into azure smoke to evade attacks and change position 189. |
| Great Sun Shining Heaven | Manifests suns for offensive attacks at the Primordial Spirit stage 362 369. |
| Mountains and Rivers Seal | Produces mountain-like force; used alongside the Heavenly Immortal Art while fighting multiple opponents 562. |
True Martial Art
A body-enhancing battle art that increases strength, speed, defense, and spell-art effectiveness 141.
- Connects cultivation gourds, physical-body gourds, and spiritual stars through resonance.
- Reached ninth-layer mastery after ten days of practice.
- Initially activates slowly and can be interrupted before the resonance completes.
- Consumes substantial spiritual qi and places strain on body and spirit.
- Further practice allowed Jiang Man to maintain its circulation during combat 141.
Evil God Method
A cultivation method that supports his concealed activities as Drunken Floating Life and his use of unusual external powers.
- Concealment: Uses it to assume Drunken Floating Life’s appearance before approaching an Evil God 319.
- Power manipulation: The second volume lets him perceive and weave the powers associated with the Broken Temple and Spirit Blossom Immortal Spirit into an outer mantle 268.
- Binding and recall: The fourth volume works with a Jade Token to summon Mu Kong back 330.
- Further instruction: Received the fifth volume from Ting Fengyin after becoming an immortal 502.
- Borrowed power: Can draw upon the dangerous powers he carries, provided he can restrain and control them 572.
Formation Arts
Jiang Man develops formation expertise through Ji Meng’s instruction, Ting Fengyin’s guidance, and observation of enemies 197 356 460.
- Records unfamiliar formations for later investigation 353.
- Learns a formation intended to disrupt an Evil God’s defenses 356.
- Adopts the Bai Family Ancestor’s practice of secretly laying additional formations during battle 480 494.
- Uses formations to restrict movement, create evasive openings, and trap opponents 480 494.
Divine Abilities
| Ability | Applications and Limits |
|---|---|
| Close at Hand, Yet Worlds Apart | Prevented a killing formation’s continuing torrent from crossing the distance to him 494. |
| Three Mountains Suppressing Peaks | Manifested three immense mountains that blasted open the torrent, though he could not destroy the formation’s power outright 494. |
| Returning Heaven and Reversing the Sun | Reversed the Heavenly Dog’s movement and briefly covered the sun. Ting Fengyin explained that it works through distortion of light, trajectories, and movement rather than simple reversal 571 572. |
| Myriad Things Spirituality | Provides a means of communicating with Zhulong, enabling cooperation with its specialized powers 572. |
Combat Limitations
- Practical experience: Old Yellow Ox identified his actual combat skills as a weakness early on. Jiang Man later admitted that he often won through superior cultivation or methods rather than equal-footing technique 39 327.
- Power control: Rapid advancement sometimes outpaces his precision; after becoming an immortal, he needed time to consolidate and adapt to his strength 503 533.
- Borrowed-power risk: Combining his powerful burdens requires careful restraint. Ting Fengyin explicitly warned that a failure of control could kill him 572.
