Patrick brought the Mag'har into the Horde, used the revelation about K'ure to split the Horde from Shattrath, and prepared Quel'Thalas as a base to lure Kil'jaeden. The Alliance and Horde agreed to divide their attack between Tempest Keep and the Black Temple as Illidan set his forces to draw the coalition's attention.

• Alleria agreed to send Mathis and a small Blood Elf force to help Garrosh reclaim Oshu’gun in exchange for crystal shards, while Porter Dawnblade gave Aethas a spell-disrupting magic circle.
• The Scourge besieged Light's Hope Chapel, and Darion Mograine sacrificed himself with the Corrupted Ashbringer to awaken the heroic spirits, who destroyed the undead and revived fallen heroes.
• Mathis and Garrosh found the dark Naaru K'ure draining ancestral spirits at Oshu'gun, then fed it demon and warlock souls to stabilize it while the shamans freed the trapped spirits.
• Patrick urged the Illidari Council to preserve its forces and provoke the Alliance or Horde, while Illidan agreed that Azeroth's ley lines and the Sunwell could help counter Kil'jaeden.

While the Alliance and Horde fought Illidan’s forces in Outland and the Scourge attacked Light’s Hope Chapel, Patrick prepared Quel’Thalas for war and captured Onyxia to use against Neltharion. The arc left the factions preparing separate campaigns and Danath setting out to negotiate with Quel’Thalas.

• Varian and Thrall withdrew their forces into Shattrath, where they repelled the demon assault as Tyrande struggled to understand Illidan’s intentions.
• Arthas attacked Light’s Hope Chapel, but Alexandros Mograine freed Darion from the Helm of Domination and Darion gave Ashbringer to Tirion, who drove Arthas away.
• Hawkspear, Nathanos, Tirion, and Darion agreed to unite forces for a campaign against the Scourge, while Darion sought to find his brother Reno.
• Patrick brought Kregan’s goblin team into Quel’Thalas, completed Sulfuras, and organized the kingdom’s defenses and preparations for a northern campaign.
• Patrick enlisted the Blue Dragons and Demon Hunters to hunt Onyxia, who was defeated in her lair and spared so Patrick could use her to draw out Neltharion.

Patrick arranged Kil'jaeden's summoning with Kael'thas and Illidan while building a neutral alliance around Quel'Thalas. His forces attacked the demons on the Isle of Quel'Danas, and he sent the opposing faction leaders away before the Battle of the Sunwell was over.

• Kil'jaeden destroyed Wrenchville and enabled Kael'thas to bring Tempest Keep and the demons back to Azeroth.
• Illidan accepted Kil'jaeden's portal to Quel'Thalas, while the Alliance and Horde leaders returned to Azeroth to stop the summoning.
• Alonsus Faol freed Reno from dark magic, and Alexandros forgave his son after learning how Balnazzar had corrupted the Scarlet Crusade.

• Patrick led the coalition toward the Sun Eater Temple, where Kil'jaeden emerged from the Sunwell and attacked them.
