Ch. 472The betrayer and the betrayer

Patrick secured Galin, Falstad, Kurdran, and Danath’s support by offering food, recognition of Stromgarde’s kingdom status, and an alliance. As Varian’s army approached Wrenchville, Socrethar and Doom Lord Kazzak arrived with a demonic host and surrounded Tempest Keep, forcing the Alliance to halt and wait.

Ch. 474The prince returns

Patrick ordered Rommath to summon Kael'thas and Tempest Keep back to Azeroth, assuring him that his actions had served Quel'Thalas. The summoning succeeded, but Doom Envoy Kazzak and Socrethar arrived with Kael'thas and took control of the preparations to summon Kil'jaeden, leaving the blood elves as expendable cannon fodder.

In Shadowmoon Valley, Illidan learned his forces had been driven back to the Black Temple and quietly accepted that Maiev might survive.

  • Tyrande urged the leaders to return to Azeroth and prevent Kil'jaeden from arriving, while Rhonin privately considered conquering Quel'Thalas and taking its legacy for Dalaran.
  • Velen proposed using an Astral Portal through Shattrath, but Magni pointed out that the enormous army could not all be teleported at once.
  • Varian ordered Grand Duke Leorick to lead the Coalition Forces back to Azeroth, and Jaina volunteered to contact Thrall about pressuring Quel'Thalas.

  • Patrick asked Illidan whether he would protect his people, and Illidan said he felt rejected by his kin and indebted to his followers.
  • Patrick proposed that Illidan seek acceptance at Eldre'Thalas, where the Highborne did not reject demonic power, and Altruis and Loramus agreed.

Ch. 484Battle plan

Patrick offered Illidan an independent Highborne kingdom in Quel'Thalas in exchange for a united foreign policy, then organized a coalition plan to stop Kil'jaeden's summoning. The chapter ended with Illidan, Kael'thas, and Patrick preparing to attack the demons at the Sunwell as Azeroth's leaders arrived to meet Patrick.

  • Patrick offered Illidan the western district of Eldre'Dani and promised his Highborne kingdom autonomy, while requiring it to remain aligned with Quel'Thalas in foreign affairs.

Ch. 485A secret plot in the tower

Patrick, Illidan, and their allies finalized their plans for the battle at the Sunwell and assigned forces to their targets. Patrick persuaded Vashj to guard Quel'Thalas’s shores with the naga, leaving the assault to begin when Sunlight City reached the Isle of Quel'Danas.

  • Onyxia claimed she had planned to overthrow Stormwind City, but Patrick explained that even an alliance with Nefarian would not defeat the Alliance.
  • Onyxia realized that Krasus had broken her magic splitting Varian, and Patrick warned her that disobeying him would bring an unpleasant punishment.
  • Galind Shalong reported that Sunlight City had passed Elfgate, and Patrick went to meet the waiting visitors.
  • Patrick welcomed Jaina Goldsword, Tandred, Galin, and the others, then asked them to cooperate as Quel'Thalas faced pressure from the Alliance, the Horde, and neutral forces.

Ch. 488Azeroth Arcane Covenant

Patrick assured Danath, Tandred, Galin, and the Wildhammer Dwarves that Quel'Thalas would honor its promises after the battle against Kil'jaeden. He proposed forming the Azeroth Arcane Covenant to unite their nations and protect them from the Alliance and Horde.

  • Danath asked Patrick whether Quel'Thalas would fulfill the terms it had promised, and apologized after Idonis rebuked his choice of words.
  • Patrick promised that the agreements would stand and described how the Alliance and Horde threatened the smaller nations gathered in Quel'Thalas.
  • Tandred and Galin explained how Stormwind and Theramore were drawing away Kul Tiras's and Stromgarde's people, while the Stormpike Dwarves had tried to bring the Wildhammer Dwarves under Ironforge's rule.

Ch. 489The major decisions were settled

Patrick and Danath settled plans for a Northern Continent alliance and agreed that the Arcane Pact would remain neutral while opposing Dalaran and its affiliated organizations. • The floating city docked outside Quelrins, where Hawkspear and the Alliance and Horde leadership awaited Patrick.

Ch. 490A battle of words

Patrick arrived in Quelrins with powerful allies and Regba, the Lynx Spirit, to confront the Alliance and Horde leaders over Kil'jaeden’s planned summoning. After confirming the threat, he challenged Jaina to explain what authority gave her a place at the meeting, leaving her position politically precarious.

  • Patrick entered Quelrins with Tandred, Galin, Danath, Falstad, and Regba, whose presence impressed the assembled leaders.
  • Hawkspear told Patrick that Varian, Thrall, and other faction leaders had arrived, with large Alliance and Horde forces camped outside the city.

  • Patrick confirmed that he had planned to go to the Isle of Quel’Danas, and Tirion Fordring agreed to help him with the Order of the Silver Hand.
  • Patrick offered Tyrande and the other representatives a chance to accompany his Floating City to the Isle of Quel’Danas, allowing only them and their attendants.

Ch. 493Interlude

Patrick brought the leaders of the Alliance and Horde to Sunlight City, where Velen and Brandan objected to blood elf warlocks draining shadow power from K'ure. Patrick defended the practice and used K'ure's ability to absorb demon soul shards to challenge the draenei's view of the naaru, leaving suspicion hanging over the gathering.

  • Varian, Jaina, Tyrande, Thrall, and their followers decided to go after Patrick and his group to the Isle of Quel'Danas.
  • Patrick used a flash of white light to bring everyone to Sunlight City, whose luxury astonished the visitors.
  • Velen and Brandan condemned the warlocks gathered around K'ure for siphoning shadow power from the naaru.
  • Patrick warned Velen and Brandan not to attack in Sunfury Spire, then argued that naaru were elemental creatures of both light and shadow.
  • At Patrick's order, Hui Li offered K'ure demon soul shards, and K'ure absorbed them to replenish his energy.
  • Patrick questioned Velen about the naaru's true nature and used the demonstration to encourage distrust of the naaru and the draenei.

Ch. 494The Battle of the Sunwell (Part One)

  • Patrick warned Velen that attacking him in Sunfury Spire would be dangerous because he could command the Floating City's magical defenses.
  • Galind Shalong told Patrick that the Floating City had reached the Isle of Quel'Danas and that the plan was underway.
  • Blood Elves, Fel Orcs, Naga, Night Elves, and Void Dragons turned on the demons and began clearing the island's perimeter.

  • Illidan revealed that he had accepted Regent Patrick's proposal to summon Kil'jaeden, leaving the others to realize that Patrick had been behind the plan all along.

Ch. 496The mastermind behind the scenes

Patrick defended his plan to summon Kil'jaeden and accused the Kirin Tor and red dragons of contributing to Azeroth's peril, then offered the Alliance and Horde leaders a ship back to King's Harbor. He expected them to remain near the Sunwell while his forces handled the crisis, but arranged their passage to keep them away until the battle was nearly over.

  • Patrick told Jaina, Rhonin, and Krasus that their use of arcane magic had weakened Azeroth's defenses and helped demons enter the world.
  • Krasus condemned the plan to summon Kil'jaeden, and Patrick accused the red dragons of favoring Dalaran and secretly seeking control of Azeroth.
  • Patrick suggested that the red dragons intended to help Kael'thas seize Quel'Thalas and eventually unite Azeroth under their rule.
  • Tyrande stopped the argument, and Patrick offered the leaders the Unicorn Fleet's flagship to take them back to King's Harbor.
  • Patrick arranged for the naga and elves to escort and monitor the leaders during a six-hour voyage, keeping them away until the Battle of the Sunwell was nearly over.
