Ch. 629The fall of the Lich King (Part one)

Patrick and the Northern Expeditionary Force confronted the Lich King at the Frozen Throne, where his attacks failed to break their defenses. Illidan and Tirion Fordring fought back, and Tirion freed the souls enslaved by the Lich King as the battle continued.

  • Patrick protected the group with an Arcane Barrier and dismissed the Lich King's Frost Wyrms, undead, and Val'kyr Shadowguards as threats.
  • The Lich King used Frost and Torment against Patrick, but Kael'thas countered his frost magic and Illidan's Eye Beam stopped the sneak attack.
  • Illidan fought the Lich King with his Warglaives of Azzinoth and mocked Ner'zhul for being a puppet using Prince Arthas's body.
  • The Lich King taunted Tirion Fordring about his past, but Tirion denounced him and unleashed Holy Light.
  • The Holy Light freed and purified the wronged souls, who thanked Tirion Fordring.

Ch. 630The fall of the Lich King (Part two)

Patrick, Tirion Fordring, and their allies defeated the Lich King after the Ashbringer shattered Frostmourne and freed the souls trapped within it. Arthas briefly reunited with his father before dying, while Terenas laid his son to rest.

  • Tirion Fordring used the Ashbringer’s Holy Light to free tormented souls and battled the Lich King, while Patrick urged the group to end the fight quickly.
  • Anub'serhan entered Patrick’s barrier and joined the battle against the Lich King, whose forces outside could not reach him.
  • Tirion Fordring struck Frostmourne with the Ashbringer and shattered it, freeing the souls it had enslaved.
  • Terenas Menethil, Illidan, Kael'thas, and the freed souls joined the attack, and Tirion pulled the Ashbringer from the Lich King’s chest as the Helm of Domination fell.
  • Arthas briefly regained himself, spoke with Terenas, and died; Terenas closed his eyes and laid him down.

Ch. 631The future of the San'layn

After Ner'zhul died, Lana'thel and the blood princes were freed from the Scourge and learned that Patrick had arranged to bring them home. Lana'thel gathered the high elf undead and returned secretly to Sunlight City, uncertain how Quel'Thalas would receive them.

  • Ner'zhul's soul dissipated, causing Lana'thel and the three blood princes to collapse as their Scourge shackles broke.
  • Luminas Sunstrider stopped the fighting and confirmed with Lana'thel that the Lich King was dead and they were free.
  • Luminas told Lana'thel that Patrick had ordered her to preserve the controlled elves and bring Lana'thel's group home.
  • Salorian Dawnseeker assured Lana'thel and the princes that Quel'Thalas remembered them as martyrs, while Memphis-Shadow said they could return and receive official appointments.
  • Lana'thel gathered the high elf undead and secretly returned with them to Sunlight City through a teleportation circle.

Ch. 632Arrangements for the San'layn

Lana'thel and the San'layn considered Patrick's invitation to join the campaign against Yogg-Saron and return to Quel'Thalas. After Terenas warned that the Scourge needed a Lich King, Tirion prepared to take up the Helm of Domination, but Bolvar and Taelan opposed him.

  • Luminas Sunstrider told Lana'thel and the San'layn that Patrick wanted them to join the campaign against Yogg-Saron at Ulduar.
  • Lana'thel and the San'layn became more willing to return to Quel'Thalas after hearing that Silvermoon had not forgotten them and that they could regain a purpose there.
  • Terenas warned the gathered leaders that the Scourge would become uncontrollable without a master, then dissipated.
  • Patrick said the Scourge's main forces had been destroyed and that only mindless undead remained to worry about.
  • Tirion picked up the Helm of Domination and offered to bear its burden, but Bolvar and Taelan rejected the idea.

Ch. 633After the battle at Icecrown Citadel

After Arthas’s death, Sylvanas collapsed as her vengeance was fulfilled, while the Coalition Forces debated who should contain the remaining Scourge and succeed the Lich King. Illidan proposed Sylvanas, and the leaders argued over her candidacy as Patrick defended it.

  • Sylvanas arrived after Arthas’s defeat, saw the Helm of Domination, and collapsed when she realized the Lich King was dead.
  • Garrosh and Krasus warned that the Scourge still posed a danger, while Patrick argued that the weakened remnants could be contained without appointing a new Lich King.
  • Illidan suggested that Sylvanas become the next Lich King, and Patrick and Garrosh supported the proposal.
  • Rhonin and Bolvar objected to Sylvanas’s succession, fearing that it would strengthen the undead and the Horde.
  • Patrick challenged the objectors to nominate another candidate and argued that Sylvanas was the most suitable choice.

Ch. 634The birth of the Avengers

The factions voted to make Sylvanas the new Lich King, despite opposition from the Alliance, because no one wanted to keep their forces in Icecrown while other threats loomed. Patrick named Sylvanas’s new faction the Avengers and gave her the Helm of Domination, leaving her in control of the Scourge.

  • Patrick proposed a faction vote on whether Sylvanas should succeed as the Lich King, and most representatives voted in favor.
  • Krasus, Rhonin, and Jaina opposed the proposal, but Patrick argued that the Alliance and Horde needed to address the Emerald Nightmare while the Arcane Pact dealt with Ulduar.
  • Kael'thas urged the opponents to offer an alternative and suggested the newly freed Forsaken take a new name.
  • Patrick named them the Avengers, marking their revenge on the Scourge and their break from their bloodthirsty past.
  • Patrick took the Helm of Domination from Tirion Fordring and declared Sylvanas Windrunner the Avengers Queen.
  • Sylvanas accepted the helm, and the Scourge and freed Val'kyr knelt before their new queen.

Ch. 635Ulduar

After taking control of the Scourge, Sylvanas prepared to lead the undead as a new power, while Patrick turned his attention to Ulduar and Yogg-Saron. Patrick and his companions reached the Storm Peaks, where they planned to seal the Old God’s prison, but Frostborn Dwarves stopped them at the Snowdrift Plains.

  • Patrick announced that Lordaeron, Grizzlemaw, the Kalu'ak, and other organizations had joined the Arcane Pact.
  • Patrick, Alleria, Illidan, and Maiev traveled to the Storm Peaks while Kael'thas and Vashj stayed behind to maintain stability and protect the waters.
  • Patrick explained that Ulduar guarded the entrance to Yogg-Saron’s prison and that they needed to clear the Old God’s influence and seal the entrance.
  • Patrick pointed out Ulduar across a precipitous chasm and described the mission as a raid requiring only a small group.
  • A Frostborn Dwarf leader confronted Patrick and his companions, explaining that his group had been searching for proto-dragons.

Ch. 636Wisdom King

Patrick and his companions reached Ulduar with Jorgr Stormheart and two Frostborn Dwarves, where Yogg-Saron welcomed them and Loken confronted them. The chapter ended as Loken prepared to attack Patrick.

  • Patrick told Jorgr Stormheart that they were going to Ulduar to destroy the mastermind controlling the Iron Dwarves and Iron Giants, and Jorgr offered to join them with two followers.
  • Jorgr and the others found the bridge to Ulduar broken, so Patrick teleported the group to the Main Gate.
  • Ulduar's gates opened, and a voice welcomed them as its first guests; Patrick suspected Yogg-Saron had prepared for their arrival.
  • Patrick's party entered Ulduar and encountered Loken, the Wisdom King, standing alone before a gate.
  • Loken declared that Yogg-Saron would be freed and the Pantheon would fall, then turned on Patrick and told him to die.

Ch. 637Loken's death

Patrick and his allies defeated Loken in Ulduar, then discovered the Halls of Memory had become a stronghold for Yogg-Saron’s Faceless Ones. Patrick urged Jorgr Stormheart to return to his people while the others continued toward the Old God.

  • Loken attacked Patrick with lightning, but Patrick’s Arcane Shield absorbed it while Jorgr Stormheart struck Loken with his Stormhammer.
  • Patrick restrained Loken with Bigby’s Arcane Hand, letting Illidan slash at him and Maiev attack him with Shadow Soul.
  • Illidan drove a blade into Loken’s chest, killing the King of Wisdom and ending the battle.
  • The great door opened onto the corrupted Halls of Memory, where Faceless Ones served Yogg-Saron.
  • Patrick gave Jorgr a Short-Range Teleportation Rune and explained that Loken’s death would ease the Frostborn Dwarves’ lives.
  • Jorgr hesitated to leave his allies, but Patrick urged him to seek his memories and return to his people.

Ch. 638Yogg-Saron

Patrick and his allies defeated General Vezax and entered Yogg-Saron’s prison, where Sara revealed herself as the Old God’s disguise. Yogg-Saron emerged to fight them, and Patrick began using the Discs of Norgannon to attack his protected avatar.

  • Patrick kept Jorgr Stormheart out of the coming battle and suggested that he might find the Bronzebeard Dwarves near Ironforge.
  • General Vezax attacked Patrick and his allies in the Descent into Madness, but Maiev summoned the Avatar of Vengeance while the Demon Hunters cut through the Faceless Ones.
  • General Vezax summoned a Saronite Crystal, but Patrick killed him with Diffusing Riftwave before it could become a threat.
  • Elune warned Patrick that Yogg-Saron’s behavior seemed suspicious, and the group entered the warded chamber where Sara pretended to be an ally.
  • Patrick exposed Sara as Yogg-Saron, who emerged from the green pool and attacked with tentacles while Sara transformed into a Val’kyr.
  • Illidan and the Demon Hunters burned Yogg-Saron’s tentacles with fel fire, and Patrick summoned the Discs of Norgannon to unleash Disintegration Ray as the group prepared to resist the Old God’s mind control.

Ch. 639Fusion

Patrick and his allies broke through Yogg-Saron’s protective barrier and unleashed a coordinated assault that appeared to kill the Old God’s avatar. Yogg-Saron’s black blood then fused Loken and General Vezax into a new monster, leaving the battle unresolved.

  • Patrick used the Discs of Norgannon to shatter Yogg-Saron’s energy barrier and called on everyone to attack his body.
  • Illidan corroded Yogg-Saron’s head with fel rays and hidden Fel Fire Charms, while Alleria and Maiev added their attacks.
  • Patrick restrained Yogg-Saron with arcane runes as the fel fire burned out and the avatar collapsed, leading Illidan to believe it was dead.
  • Patrick realized Yogg-Saron’s black blood was flowing toward the doorway and warned that the Old God might still have a plan.
  • Yogg-Saron’s black blood fused Loken and General Vezax into a tentacled, metal-covered monster that emerged from his remains.

Ch. 640Fierce battle against the fused giant

Patrick and the others fought Yogg-Saron’s fused giant, whose black water and tentacles threatened to overwhelm them. With Elune’s help, Patrick compressed the creature inside a spatial coffin until it shattered, leaving the giant in pieces.

  • Yogg-Saron’s black blood fused Loken’s corpse with General Vezax’s remains into a giant that attacked Patrick and the others with tentacles.
  • Patrick and Illidan found that Fel Fire only burned the giant’s tentacles, while Alleria’s Arcane arrows could not pierce its body.
  • The fused giant spewed black water that transformed matter into flesh, and the group burned it with Fel Fire to prevent contamination.
  • Patrick used the Discs of Norgannon to elevate Arcane energy into spatial power and trap the giant inside a Spatial Restriction.
  • Elune told Patrick the creature could not withstand spatial power and lent him strength, allowing him to crush the giant inside the spatial coffin.

Ch. 641Persuading Algalon

After defeating Yogg-Saron’s avatar, Patrick warned that Loken’s death would summon Algalon to judge Azeroth and potentially re-originate the world. The Guardians opened the observatory, where Patrick tried to persuade Algalon that re-origination would doom Azeroth’s World-Soul.

  • Patrick explained that Loken’s death had triggered the Titans’ inspection protocol and that Azeroth might be re-originated if Algalon judged its defenses inadequate.
  • Patrick and his companions returned to the hall, where Freya, Thorim, and two other Guardians thanked them and opened the observatory doors.
  • Patrick, Illidan, Alleria, and Maiev entered the observatory, and Algalon arrived in a burst of blue light to begin analyzing Azeroth.
  • Patrick told Algalon that they had defeated Yogg-Saron’s escaped avatar and argued that re-origination would doom the World-Soul at Azeroth’s center.

Ch. 642Elune and I Had an Agreement

Patrick persuaded Algalon not to reoriginate Azeroth by explaining that doing so would leave Elune and the World-Soul vulnerable to the Old Gods. Elune appeared and confirmed Patrick’s plan, and Algalon departed after sending the Pantheon a reassuring report, leaving Patrick in command of Ulduar’s Titan-forged.

  • Patrick warned Algalon that reorigination would not remove the Old Gods’ corruption and could ultimately turn Azeroth’s World-Soul into a new Old God.
  • Patrick told Algalon that he and Elune had agreed he would find a way to help her reshape her body and become a Titan again.
  • Elune manifested through Patrick, nodded to Algalon, and sent him a message that convinced him to abandon reorigination.
  • Algalon sent the code "codealpha" to the Pantheon, reporting that Azeroth remained on its intended course, then departed.
  • Elune authorized Patrick to command Ulduar’s Titan-forged, and Patrick ordered the four Guardians to clear Yogg-Saron’s remains and destroy the link to the Old God’s prison.

Ch. 643Maiev joins the fold

Maiev learned Patrick’s plan to restore Elune and agreed to join the Arcane Pact with her Watchers. After Hodir reported that Yogg-Saron’s prison had been isolated, Patrick prepared to use the Discs of Norgannon.

  • Maiev asked Patrick to explain Elune’s plan, and he warned her that learning it meant she must join and keep it secret.
  • Patrick explained that he intended to rebuild Elune’s body on a new world, while warning that a Titan’s birth would destroy its planet.
  • Maiev accepted her duty as a priestess of Elune, and Patrick invited her and her Watchers to become formal members of the Arcane Pact.
  • Patrick described how Illidan and Maiev’s followers had settled in Eldre'Dani, where their Night Elves shared rule over the region.
  • Hodir reported that Freya had dismantled Yogg-Saron’s remains and the connecting magic circles, and Elune confirmed that Ulduar’s link to the prison had been cut off for now.
  • Patrick summoned the platinum Discs of Norgannon, filling the area with their arcane aura.

Ch. 644Plans for Ulduar

Patrick planned to claim Ulduar and turn it into a floating city after its Old God threat was removed. Back in Sunlight City, he learned that Medivh Aran had been waiting to see him.

  • Patrick used the Discs of Norgannon to prepare Ulduar for his plan to make it a floating city, including severing its connection to the Underground Prison.
  • Jorgr Stormheart returned with Brann Bronzebeard and other dwarves, and Patrick confirmed that Yogg-Saron's avatar and the corrupted Iron Dwarves and Iron Giants had been dealt with.
  • Brann thanked Patrick, then said he and the dwarves would leave aboard the Skybreaker to avoid political complications between their allies.
  • Patrick left a Disc of Norgannon in Ulduar as a marker, ordered the guardians to bar outsiders, and teleported everyone back to Sunlight City.
  • Illidan and Maiev prepared for the Watchers to join the Arcane Pact while Patrick and Alleria returned to the Main Spire.
  • Kael'thas told Patrick that new members had joined the Arcane Pact, Northrend's territory was being allocated, and Medivh Aran had been waiting to meet him.

Ch. 645A proposal

Patrick invited Medivh to help rebuild the Council of Tirisfal and urged him to resume the Guardian’s responsibilities. Medivh remained uncertain, torn between his guilt over the past and his longing to return to Stormwind.

  • Patrick welcomed Medivh before the Covenant’s leaders, and they discussed how Azeroth’s future had changed for the better.
  • Patrick revealed that Kael'thas and Illidan had survived, Ner'zhul had not conquered Azeroth, and the Horde and Alliance conflict had been restrained, shocking those present.
  • Patrick proposed rebuilding the Council of Tirisfal and asked Medivh to join as this generation’s Guardian.
  • Medivh rejected the idea at first, saying his task was over and that he had destroyed the old Council.
  • Patrick reminded Medivh of King Llane, Sir Lothar, and Stormwind’s suffering, prompting Medivh to hesitate as he wondered whether the kingdom would accept him again.

Ch. 646Reorganizing the Council of Tirisfal

Patrick persuaded Medivh to help rebuild the Council of Tirisfal, proposing a broader membership that included non-mages and members of the Arcane Pact. Medivh agreed to represent Stormwind and return to Karazhan, while the council’s structure and operations remained to be settled.

  • Patrick argued that Azeroth needed a renewed Council of Tirisfal to confront threats such as the Old Gods and demons.
  • Patrick proposed that Medivh, Kael'thas, Illidan Stormrage, and Maiev Shadowsong join the council, and explained that its membership should extend beyond mages.
  • Medivh questioned whether Patrick intended to absorb the council into the Azeroth Arcane Covenant, and Patrick said the council would change while the Covenant remained hostile only to the Kirin Tor.
  • Kael'thas reported that Dalaran had fled out to sea, and Patrick dismissed the Kirin Tor’s escape as no threat to Quel'Thalas and its allies.
  • Medivh agreed to represent the Kingdom of Stormwind on the council and said he would return to Karazhan to handle its affairs.

Ch. 647Grudges

Patrick considered how Medivh’s return to Karazhan could force Stormwind City to choose between him and Dalaran’s Kirin Tor. Either choice would weaken the Kirin Tor and advance the Arcane Pact’s influence, while Medivh’s past revealed how the Kirin Tor had exploited his death to loot Karazhan.

  • Medivh’s descent under Sargeras emptied Karazhan, and Lothar later defeated him when Medivh’s own consciousness weakened Sargeras’s control.
  • After Medivh died, Khadgar and the Violet Eye stripped Karazhan of its treasures and shipped them to Dalaran, including Atiesh.
  • The Kirin Tor continued trying to seize Medivh’s remaining treasures after Prince Malchezaar occupied Karazhan, sending mages to lure adventurers into the tower.
  • Dalaran used Medivh’s legacy to advance its magical research and eventually create the floating Violet Citadel.
  • Patrick reasoned that if Stormwind acknowledged Medivh, it would have to choose between him and the Kirin Tor, while rejecting him could push him fully toward the Arcane Pact.

Ch. 648Clearing up doubts

Patrick explained how divination revealed that Kael'thas, Illidan, and Vashj had no futures beyond the twenty-sixth year after the Dark Portal opened, and described how he used that clue to plan Kil'jaeden's defeat. The three accepted his account, with Illidan and Vashj pledging themselves to the Arcane Pact while Kael'thas remained privately in agreement.

  • Patrick explained that his divination showed Kael'thas, Illidan, and Vashj's futures ending in the twenty-sixth year after the Dark Portal opened.
  • Patrick said he had learned of Kael'thas's dealings with Kil'jaeden and used the resulting political danger to plan for her defeat with the Sunwell.
  • Patrick explained that Kil'jaeden and Archimonde were weakened on Azeroth by the Titans' installations, making them vulnerable to the Sunwell and World Tree.
  • Maiev praised Patrick's achievements, and Illidan pledged to become the Arcane Pact's strongest enforcer.
  • Vashj pledged the Naga to serve the Arcane Pact, while Kael'thas silently agreed with Patrick.
