Chapters 152–177 Vol. 2 Read

Ch. 152One tower, one world

Dick and Med'an arrived at Karazhan, where Medivh’s undead servants welcomed Med'an as the tower’s heir and urged him to take up his inheritance. After encouraging Med'an to consider the responsibility of protecting them, Dick left to meet Meryl and claim the inheritance Medivh had left for him.

  • Moroes led Dick and Med'an from the banquet hall to a luxurious guest room, explaining that Meryl was in the library and warning them to avoid the Maiden of Virtue and the basement.
  • Moroes planned to teach Med'an etiquette and magic and have Lord Aland and Attumen train him, while Dick considered how Karazhan could protect the boy.
  • Med'an asked whether Karazhan would be his home, and Dick explained that Medivh had left the tower and its servants to him along with the duty to protect them.
  • Med'an admitted that he no longer feared the undead but wondered why they should sacrifice for him, and Dick urged him to think carefully about accepting the responsibility of lordship.
  • After Med'an fell asleep, Dick took the Blue Flame Rose and set out to find Meryl and claim Medivh’s inheritance.

Ch. 153The Kirin Tor's legacy

Dick entered the Banquet Hall, where Moroes recalled Medivh’s death and explained how the master had given Karazhan’s servants purpose. Dick gave Moroes the Blue Flame Rose, then followed him to the Observatory to receive Medivh’s gifts, discovering a Judgment Armor set and an Astral Warhorse.

  • Moroes told Dick how Medivh had saved Karazhan’s people and how the tower’s servants had lost their purpose after his death.

  • Dick opened the second box and met the winged Astral Warhorse Medivh had prepared as another gift.

Ch. 154A treasure from another world-the Naaru crystal

Dick opened Medivh’s last box in Karazhan and found the Naaru’s green Ata’mal Crystal, the Shadow of Flourishing Leaves. It gave him limited control over the Bloodlust Oak inside him and let him vanish from sight, before he set out for the Swamp of Sorrows and was attacked while freeing Lady Velinde.

  • Moroes warned Dick that the last box held a mysterious gift from fate and revealed Medivh had found it on Draenor.
  • Dick opened the box and discovered the Shadow of Flourishing Leaves, a green Ata’mal Crystal once kept by the Draenei.
  • The crystal pleased the Bloodlust Oak inside Dick and gave him limited control over it.
  • Dick used the crystal to disappear and reappear behind Moroes, who warned him not to pull such stunts in Karazhan.
  • The next morning, Dick left Karazhan to pursue Eranikus’s Redemption in the Swamp of Sorrows and opened the cellar door to free Lady Velinde.
  • A dark figure lunged at Dick as he opened the cellar door.

Ch. 155The Green Dragons of the Swamp of Sorrows

Dick found Velinde Starsong feral after she killed the Black Knight, healed and outfitted her, then brought her to the Swamp of Sorrows. There, Demitier explained that the Green Dragons needed Dick to break the Atal'ai Trolls’ barrier and stop their offerings to Soulflayer.

  • Dick defended himself from Velinde Starsong’s sudden attack, recognized her, and healed her wounds with Holy Light.
  • Dick had the Succubus maids bathe and dress Velinde, then flew with her on Astral Steed to the Swamp of Sorrows.
  • Dick explained that the Sunken Temple housed the Atal'ai Tribe and that Soulflayer’s corruption was spreading through the land.
  • Dick used a broken emerald dragon scale to summon a Green Dragon scout, who introduced himself as Demitier.
  • Demitier told Dick that the Nightmare and Soulflayer had weakened the Green Dragons, put Eranikus into a deep slumber, and empowered Trolls who had escaped the temple.
  • Dick learned that he was expected to break the Trolls’ barrier and destroy their offerings so Soulflayer’s influence would weaken and Eranikus could awaken.

Ch. 156Drakonid-Hrunis

Dick, Demitier, and Velinde entered the Atal'ai temple and rescued the drakonid Hrunis from a Hakkari sacrifice. After escaping the troll zombies, they gained Hrunis as an ally and prepared to fight the trolls.

  • Velinde tracked Wind Serpents through the temple, and Hrunis led the group into a chamber with a black altar and four Soul Lamps.
  • Dick explained that Wind Serpent remains could extinguish the lamps and draw Hakkar's Avatar into the mortal world, while Demitier described the Green Dragonflight's struggle to contain the Trolls.
  • Hrunis killed the Wind Serpents in a nearby hall, and Dick and the others poured their blood over the Soul Lamps until the first three went out.
  • Demitier took Dragon form to hold back Trolls outside as Dick extinguished the final lamp, and Anveena broke Hakkar's attempt to oppress Dick's mind.
  • Hakkar's Avatar emerged from the altar, and Dick summoned his armor and Holy Light before declaring that five minutes would be enough to defeat it.

Ch. 159The collapse of the Atal'ai

Dick and Das fought Hakkar’s avatar in the underwater temple until Dick resisted its soul storm with Anveena’s help and destroyed its vessel with the Hammer of Justice and holy water. • Hakkar unleashed a Soul Storm that attacked Dick and Das, but Anveena urged Dick to charge into it and protected him.
