Background / History

Kanae was already the Demon Slayer Corps' Flower Pillar when she met swordsmith Tetsu no Sosuke. After he repaired her damaged Nichirin Blade, she requested a newly tailored weapon and willingly provided a drop of blood for its forging 9 12 13.

She received the completed blade during Upper Moon Two Doma's attack. The weapon allowed her to draw out her swordsmanship more completely, sustain her stamina, and suppress demon regeneration. Kanae fought Doma alongside Sosuke and Shinobu, severing Doma's arm and protecting the gravely injured swordsmith during the battle 25 28 30 32.

After Sosuke chose to join the Demon Slayer Corps, Kanae accepted responsibility for teaching him basic swordsmanship. She remained concerned about the danger he faced but supported his decision to fight and improve 37 42 105.

Kanae later traveled with Sosuke to Mt. Sagiri, where she judged Nezuko Kamado's case. Rather than execute Nezuko immediately, Kanae accepted Urokodaki Sakonji's evidence that Nezuko had protected humans and reserved judgment until she could observe her herself 92 93.
