Ch. 1White Walkers

Gary transmigrated into the world of Game of Thrones as a newborn, and the Night's King began transforming him into a White Walker. The Green Pearl awakened, saved Gary, and revealed a power that astonished even the Night's King.

  • Gary woke as a freezing newborn on an altar surrounded by the Night's King's army and realized he had entered the world of Game of Thrones.
  • The Night's King picked up Gary and began turning him into a White Walker, but Gary absorbed nearly all of the Night's King's mana.
  • The Night's King stopped the transformation and tried to kill Gary by choking him.
  • The Green Pearl emerged from Gary's eye, shielded him, blasted the Night's King away, and restored Gary to human form.
  • The Green Pearl's energy healed and strengthened Gary, while the Night's King recognized its power as something beyond magic and sorcery.

Ch. 2The crow

Gary’s Green Pearl exhausted itself after the Night’s King’s army struck him down into a snowy forest, leaving him to flee alone. A direwolf possessed by a skinchanger offered him a ride south, and Gary climbed onto its back as the White Walkers closed in.

  • The Night’s King ordered his army to attack Gary with a storm of ice spears, draining the Green Pearl’s power and sending Gary crashing into the forest.
  • The Green Pearl crumbled into dust, so Gary wrapped himself in animal hide and headed south while the Night’s King’s army pursued him.
  • Gary killed a crow with a stone and discovered that his strength remained unusually great, then encountered an adult direwolf.
  • Gary punched the direwolf and knocked out one of its teeth when it tried to bite him.
  • The direwolf spoke and offered to carry Gary away, and Gary recognized that a skinchanger might be possessing it.
  • Gary climbed onto the direwolf, which began racing south with the White Walkers approaching.

Ch. 3Another future

Gu Li escaped the Night's King's search and reached a cave Beyond the Wall, where Leaf and the Three-Eyed Crow took him in. The Three-Eyed Crow revealed that a future vision showed Gu Li becoming a new King of the White Walkers, and that he had been wounded by this future king across time.

  • The Night's King searched south through the snow-covered forest but found only Gu Li's abandoned swaddling blanket at the edge of the Frostfangs.
  • A Direwolf carried Gu Li across the Frostfangs to a secluded cave, where Leaf found him and brought him to the Three-Eyed Crow.
  • The Three-Eyed Crow told Leaf to raise Gu Li but to kill him if he did anything unusual, while Gu Li recognized the old man as Brynden Rivers.
  • After Leaf left with Gu Li, the Three-Eyed Crow revealed a chest wound inflicted by a future White Walker king during a vision across time.
  • The Three-Eyed Crow recalled seeing the young king kill Bran Stark and the others, then wound his projection and urge him to find the king in the past and try to change the future.

Ch. 4A new destiny

Twelve-year-old Gary asked to leave the lands beyond the Wall, but the Three-Eyed Crow tested him with weirwood soup and a chance to connect to the Old Gods. Gary failed to become a skinchanger and, after touching the weirwood, relived a future in which he became a White Walker king, conquered Westeros, and was betrayed by a deity.

  • Gary finished his lessons on Westerosi history and asked Leaf to teach him magic and let him travel south of the Wall.
  • Leaf took Gary to the Three-Eyed Crow, who asked whether he would fight for humanity and gave him soup brewed from weirwood seeds.
  • Gary touched the weirwood, but the Three-Eyed Crow could not sense him and concluded that he had failed to become a skinchanger.
  • The Three-Eyed Crow told Leaf to prepare for Gary to leave, while Gary fell unconscious and dreamed of becoming a White Walker.
  • In his dream, Gary saw himself conquer Westeros for a deity, then be ordered to conquer Essos; when he tried to kill the deity, it shattered his body.

Ch. 5Do gods exist?

Leaf worried that Luke would struggle south of the Wall, but the Three-Eyed Crow insisted he would be safer there and sent him away with provisions arranged. After waking from a nightmare, Gary questioned the Three-Eyed Crow about gods and the Other God, then left to consider the Green Crystal and whether it could help him return home.

  • Leaf warned the Three-Eyed Crow that Luke lacked the skills to survive south of the Wall, but he said the war made it safer for him there and reminded her that their mission came first.
  • Gary woke from a nightmare with his left eye back to pale blue, learned Leaf was away, and went to see his teacher.
  • Gary asked the Three-Eyed Crow whether gods existed and whether the White Walkers worshipped the Other God, provoking the Crow to angrily order him out.
  • Gary concluded that the Crow feared him because he was the King of the White Walkers in another life, though he remained grateful for the Crow's care and teaching.
  • Gary wondered whether the Green Crystal hidden inside his body could send him home, but rejected the idea of cutting himself open to find it.

Ch. 6A sudden farewell

Leaf took Gary from Beyond the Wall and left him near the Wall with a letter, gold, and the sword Dark Sister, telling him to seek Benjen Stark and claim Stark parentage. After a tearful farewell, Gary headed through the Haunted Forest toward Castle Black while Leaf returned with Bingling.

  • Leaf took Gary south toward the Wall without letting him say goodbye to Shuizhu and the others.
  • After more than ten days, Leaf told Gary to find Benjen Stark and give him her letter, then handed him gold coins and Dark Sister.
  • Leaf instructed Gary to claim that Brandon Stark was his father and that his Wildling mother had died helping him escape Beyond the Wall.
  • Gary thanked Leaf for raising him and called her like a mother, then Leaf rode away as he ran toward the Wall.
  • Leaf returned to the spot and cried over Gary's footprints, and Bingling promised to look after him before they left again.

Ch. 7One-Punch Man

Gary reached the Wall and tried to enter through a tunnel to reach Benjen Stark, but two Night's Watch guards lured him inside to rob him. When they attacked, Gary revealed his strength by knocking them down with punches.

  • Gary found the Wall and located a tunnel leading toward Castle Black.
  • Gary knocked on the tunnel door and asked the two Night's Watch guards to take him to Benjen Stark, offering them a Gold Dragon.
  • The guards raised the door and let Gary inside, intending to rob him of his money.
  • The tall guard threatened Gary and reached for his sword, so Gary punched him in the stomach and sent him crashing to the ground.
  • Gary charged the fat guard and punched him, making him scream through the tunnel.

Ch. 8Caught

Gary fought his way through the tunnel into Castle Black, where the Night’s Watch captured him after one guard died and another was injured. He identified Benjen Stark among the arriving officers, and Lord Commander Jeor Mormont questioned him about his tribe and why he had entered.

  • Gary lifted the tunnel’s iron portcullis, disarmed the fat watchman, and knocked him unconscious after the guard explained that both wooden gates were closed.
  • Gary reached the far gate and waited until Night’s Watch men opened it, then claimed he was looking for Benjen Stark and had only fought the guards in self-defense.
  • Alliser ordered Gary’s arrest after learning that one watchman was dead and the other injured, and threatened to hang him.
  • Jeor Mormont arrived with Benjen and questioned Alliser’s theory that Gary had conspired with the guards.
  • Jeor praised Gary’s fighting ability and asked which tribe he belonged to and why he had entered Castle Black.

Ch. 9The letter

Gary presented a letter from his dead mother claiming he was Brandon Stark’s son, and Benjen and Jeor Mormont agreed to investigate the claim. Benjen planned to take Gary to Winterfell the next morning, while Alliser remained opposed to allowing him inside Castle Black.

  • Gary showed Jeor Mormont his purse and explained that he had come looking for Benjen, then gave Jeor a letter from his mother.
  • Jeor read the letter and took Gary and Benjen to his office, where Benjen learned that Brandon Stark had fathered a child with a woman in Mole’s Town twelve years earlier.
  • Benjen said he would take Gary to Winterfell to compare the letter with Brandon’s writing, and Jeor agreed to investigate the story in Mole’s Town.
  • Alliser protested that Gary was a Wildling, but Jeor said his identity had not yet been established and sent Alliser away.
  • Benjen gave Gary a room, took his sword and purse, and locked the door for the night before their planned departure for Winterfell.

Ch. 10Winterfell

Benjen brought Gary to Winterfell, where Gary met Robb Stark, Jon Snow, and Theon Greyjoy while Benjen went to speak urgently with Eddard Stark. The chapter left Gary in the company of the boys as Robb suggested visiting Bran, Sansa, and Arya.

  • Benjen explained that Gary would use the name Luke Snow until his identity was confirmed, and the two resumed their journey after resting.
  • Fourteen days later, Benjen and Gary reached Winterfell and entered through the northern gate.
  • Benjen left Gary with the Stark boys while he went to discuss urgent business with Eddard Stark.
  • Gary introduced himself as Luke Snow and met Robb Stark, Jon Snow, and Theon Greyjoy.
  • Robb asked Gary about his connection to Benjen, then invited the others to visit Bran, Sansa, and Arya.

Ch. 11A family dinner

Eddard Stark examined evidence that Gary might be Brandon Stark’s son while Benjen planned to investigate his origins. Gary settled into Winterfell, where he befriended Jon Snow, but Eddard remained wary of him.

  • Eddard confirmed that Brandon had written the letter but said it could not prove the child was his, and Benjen planned to investigate Mole’s Town and beyond the Wall.
  • Benjen recalled Brandon spending time with whores in Mole’s Town, and Eddard invited him to stay for dinner before returning to the Wall.
  • Robb and the other Stark children played around Bran’s crib, while Catelyn told Robb to take Gary away and change his animal-skin clothes.
  • At dinner, Gary ate a large meal and explained to Jon Snow that life beyond the Wall had been harsh.
  • Eddard asked Gary about killing someone at the Wall, warned him not to hurt anyone in Winterfell, and arranged for him to share Jon’s room until his own room was ready.

Ch. 12Great strength

Gary woke at Winterfell, bonded with Snow, and went to the training yard, where he defeated Theon with a powerful shield charge. A white-haired man arrived and identified him as Luke Snow.

  • Gary slept through the night in Snow's room, then woke at noon and learned Benjen had left Winterfell with Gary's belongings.
  • Gary shared a meal with Snow, spoke of his homesickness, and was comforted by Snow, who called Winterfell his home too.
  • Gary and Snow returned their dishes and went to the training yard, where Robb and Theon had been sparring.
  • Theon challenged Gary, and Gary charged him with a shield, sending him flying and breaking his arm.
  • A white-haired man examined Theon's injury and addressed Gary as Luke Snow.

Ch. 13Bow and sword

Gary impressed Rodrik Cassel with his archery and received a promise that Eddard would find him a teacher. After discussing their futures with Snow, Gary learned that Robb would teach him House Stark’s two-handed sword techniques.

  • Rodrik Cassel tested Gary’s archery, and Gary hit both a distant direwolf statue and a moving piece of wood.
  • Rodrik praised Gary’s talent and said he would ask Eddard to find him an archery teacher.
  • At dinner, Gary learned that Snow wanted to join the Night’s Watch and encouraged him to pursue that goal.
  • Robb told Gary that Eddard had agreed to hire him an archery teacher, then teased him about his poor swordsmanship.
  • Gary said he wanted to learn the two-handed sword, and Robb offered to teach him the techniques associated with House Stark’s ancestral greatsword, Ice.

Ch. 14A new teacher

Larrik Karstark taught Gary, Robb, and Snow to use arcing fire, and Gary showed promise despite injuring his hands. That night, Gary heard a voice demanding a crystal, then was buried in snow and fell asleep.

  • Larrik Karstark arrived at Winterfell and took Robb, Snow, and Gary outside to practice archery.
  • Larrik demonstrated arcing fire, and Gary eventually hit the marked tree while Robb and Snow struggled to hit it.
  • Larrik shot a running hare with an arrow fired into the sky and explained the skills needed to hit a moving target.
  • Robb and Snow advised Gary to focus on archery rather than swordsmanship after he struggled during their evening practice.
  • Gary found icy white granules on his windowsill, heard a voice demanding a crystal, and was overcome by a blast of snow that put him to sleep.

Ch. 15The Other God and the Lord of Light

Gary was tortured in a dream by the Other God, but the Lord of Light intervened and tried to take the Crystal before Gary's power drove her away. His alternate-timeline self then appeared and revealed that he had sent Gary the memories, before beginning to deliver an important message.

  • The Other God trapped Gary in a dream and repeatedly tortured him, demanding the Crystal.
  • The Lord of Light appeared in the dream, destroyed the Other God, and offered to send Gary home in exchange for the Crystal.
  • Gary realized the Lord of Light's portal was not taking him home and rejected her attempt to imprison him.
  • Green energy emerged from Gary's left eye and overwhelmed the Lord of Light, after which Gary took control of the dream and made her disappear.
  • White Walkers Gary appeared and told Gary that he had sent the memories through the magic in the Three-Eyed Crow's wound, then said he had something important to tell him.

Ch. 16The mutated left hand (Merry Christmas!)

White Walkers Gary revealed the Crystal’s power and awakened Gary’s White Walker abilities before disappearing into his left hand. Gary woke after three days with a mutated left arm and green left eye, then reconciled with Theon at Robb’s urging while hiding his changes.

  • White Walkers Gary explained that gods arose from human faith and that the Crystal could give gods physical bodies and might help Gary return home.
  • White Walkers Gary awakened the White Walker power within Gary, promised it would remove the Other God’s mark and grant him magical abilities, then merged into Gary’s left hand.
  • Gary woke after three days and discovered that his left forearm had become a dark-blue, scaled White Walker limb that he could not change back.
  • Robb and Theon visited Gary, and Robb persuaded him to apologize for breaking Theon’s hand so they could make peace.
  • Gary thanked Snow for rescuing him from the snow, then concealed his mutated arm and claimed he had always had differently colored eyes when Snow and Robb noticed his green left eye.

Ch. 17Thief

Gary tried to buy a crate of gloves to conceal his left hand, but discovered his purse had been stolen from Snow's room. Eddard began investigating, and Gary suspected Theon as he left to search for his room.

  • Gary wrapped his injured left arm in bandages and went with Robb and Snow to the weaving room to get gloves.
  • Gary chose a crate of military gloves, but lacked the silver to pay for them, so he and Snow went back for his purse while Robb went to find Sansa.
  • Gary discovered his purse was missing, and Snow joined him in asking the entrance guard whether anyone suspicious had left Winterfell.
  • Robb brought Gary, Snow, Sansa, and Arya to Eddard, who ordered Vayon Poole to find out who had cleaned Snow's room.
  • Gary told Robb he had a suspect and asked which floor Theon's room was on.

Ch. 18Coins

Gary recovered Luke's stolen money pouch from Theon, then showed Snow his ice magic and asked him to keep it secret. The next morning, Gary struggled with archery because of his changed left hand, and Theon unexpectedly approached him at the training grounds.

  • Gary forced Theon to return Luke's money pouch, then agreed with Robb and Snow not to report the theft to Eddard.
  • Gary exchanged a Gold Dragon with Sansa for her thirty Silver Moons and promised her a favor.
  • Gary told Snow that he knew magic, froze a cup of water, and asked him to hide the secret and claim Gary had scalded his hand.
  • Gary trained with Snow and Robb under Lari, but his altered left hand made him miss every target.
  • Theon approached Gary at the training grounds while Gary was sitting on the grass.

Ch. 19Testing

Gary tested his new ice-related abilities in Snow's room, discovering that he could freeze water and shatter iron while investigating how Valyrian steel affected him. Arya arrived and demanded that he play with her.

  • Theon offered to teach Gary to shoot a bow left-handed, and Gary practiced with his right hand drawing the string for several hours.
  • Gary returned to Snow's room and discovered that his left hand could instantly freeze water but that he struggled to control his mana.
  • Gary touched iron rivets and a band on the door, shattering both into icy fragments, and noted that the ability worked through his glove with a brief delay.
  • Gary examined Dark Sister and found that Valyrian steel could pierce his palm, but the wound healed quickly without turning his hand to ice.
  • Arya knocked on the door and asked Gary to come play with her, and he asked where Sansa was.

Ch. 20Practice

Gary practiced mana control at Winterfell while growing closer to Arya, then saw teacher Lari leave after a month. The chapter ended with Arya calling Gary to go fishing, while his bond with her had deepened and her relationship with Sansa had worsened.

  • Arya told Gary that Sansa had called him dangerous and urged Lady Catelyn to drive him from Winterfell, then promised to protect him.
  • Gary tried to freeze only a thin layer of water with mana, but froze an entire bucket and exhausted himself through repeated practice.
  • Snow learned that Gary had caused the ice in Winterfell's moat, then accidentally broke their bedroom door while trying to close it.
  • After a month of archery and mana practice, Gary, Snow, Robb, and Theon saw their teacher Lari off as he rode toward Karhold.
  • Arya invited Gary fishing, and he reflected that she had once refused to eat until Lady Catelyn stopped considering sending him away.
