Background / History
Investigation of the Myriad Medicine Pavilion
Mu Li commanded the Wolf Head Mercenary Group, whose influence in Qingshan Town made Lao Li fear retaliation when Lu Ze stopped paying protection money. After Mu She and Tie Shan disappeared, Mu Li investigated the Myriad Medicine Pavilion’s new proprietor, examining an Emerald Water Mirror fragment recovered from Tie Shan’s corpse 13 14.
When Lu Ze defeated Poison Wolf and sent him back with a warning, Mu Li avoided an immediate confrontation. Instead, his Blood Wolf Squad monitored the pavilion’s visitors, herb-gathering schedules, supplies, and discarded rubbish to determine whether Lu Ze had a powerful backer 15.
Treasury Raid
Mu Li kept a hidden treasury beneath the Wolf God Shrine and used a chained Crimson Flame Lizard to purify Fire Spirit Marrow. The marrow was intended to enable his breakthrough to Eight-Star Great Dou Master 19 21.
Although Lu Ze received intelligence that Mu Li had left for Crimson Flame Valley to seek advancement materials, Mu Li appeared in the underground treasury during the raid. He overwhelmed Lu Ze in direct combat, but Lu Ze detonated the crimson flame gold-copper ore mother and escaped through a breached wall into an underground river 18 20.
Mu Li survived with burns through his clothing, a cracked Dou Qi Gauze Robe, and blood at his mouth. Examining the lizard’s corpse and the damaged mechanisms, he identified the intruder as a skilled gravity-technique user and connected the raid to Zhao Tu’s disappearance. He ordered investigations in Qingshan Town and Wutan City, along with searches downstream 21.
Pursuit of Lu Ze
The Wolf Head Mercenary Group sealed the town’s three access roads, inspected travelers for wounds, and watched clinics for signs of the injured thief. Its members also attempted to search the Myriad Medicine Pavilion for medicines associated with fire poison and cold Yin Qi 22 23.
Mu Li later arrived during the fighting at the pavilion and demanded the Fire Spirit Marrow. Xiao Yi Xian’s corrosive smoke obscured the courtyard, allowing Lu Ze to reach a well connected to a hidden drainage tunnel. Mu Li nearly intercepted him, then ordered the shop surrounded and Qingshan Town searched 26 27.
The pursuit continued into the mountains. After the Earth Dragon’s awakening collapsed Cliffside Valley’s entrance, Mu Li’s capture squad remained five li away. Lu Ze sensed him pacing outside the valley rather than advancing 29.
Appearance
- Clothing: Dark crimson brocade robes 20 26.
- Weapon: A large broadsword, which he drags across the treasury’s stone floor during his confrontation with Lu Ze 20.
- Dou Qi: Ocher-colored, forming a glowing defensive robe and earthen-yellow streaks during rapid movement 20 27.
- Voice: Hoarse, with his angry speech compared to a tiger’s roar 14 20.
Personality
Mu Li is cautious about opponents whose background he cannot verify. Rather than retaliating immediately against Lu Ze, he gathers detailed intelligence to establish whether the pavilion has protection from someone stronger. Lu Ze repeatedly regards this patience as characteristic of an experienced mercenary 15 17.
The theft of his treasury turns that caution into a relentless pursuit. Even while furious, Mu Li studies wounds, mechanisms, and residual energy to reconstruct the raid and direct his search toward likely suspects 21.
Abilities & Skills
Seven-Star Great Dou Master Cultivation
Mu Li possesses enough strength to decisively overpower the Four-Star Dou Zhe Lu Ze in a direct exchange 20.
- His erupting Dou Qi throws Lu Ze into a wall and strains the bones of Lu Ze’s left arm 20.
- His approaching pressure flattens the rain and causes Lu Ze’s meridians to groan under the burden 26.
- He sought Eight-Star Great Dou Master cultivation through Fire Spirit Marrow, but no successful breakthrough is documented 21.
Dou Qi Gauze Robe
Mu Li condenses an ocher defensive robe capable of stopping Lu Ze’s Grass Character Sword Art 20.
- Shatters the incoming Sword Qi after preventing it from penetrating farther 20.
- Can be thickened rapidly to withstand an explosion 20.
- Does not provide complete protection: the treasury blast cracks the robe and injures him 21.
Broadsword Combat
Mu Li combines heavy slashes, rapid movement, and projected blade radiance 20 26 27.
- Cuts a half-foot-deep gash into the treasury’s stone wall 20.
- Forms a crescent-shaped Qi wall that initially holds corrosive smoke three zhang away; the smoke subsequently spreads around its edges 26.
- Crosses the smoke-filled courtyard almost instantly and shatters a millstone placed in his blade’s path 27.
Investigation and Security
Mu Li employs covert surveillance, concealed sentries, traps, and evidence-based tracking 15 19 20 21.
- Uses the Blood Wolf Squad and Zhao Tu to investigate the pavilion 15 18.
- Protects his compound with Dou Qi detection threads and a poison trap beneath his bedroom 19.
