Background / History

Captivity in Kusagakure

Chihori and Karin lived under severe restrictions in Kusagakure, confined to a cramped residence and exploited as “walking blood bags.” Karin had never left their room before the rescue. Chihori’s prolonged depletion left her exhausted and malnourished, with bite marks covering her exposed skin, shoulders, and legs 84 85 100.

Although she belonged to the Uzumaki Clan, Chihori had never been taught sealing jutsu. Her experiences also made her reluctant to disclose her clan identity: when introducing herself and Karin to Shiki Aburame, she omitted the Uzumaki name 84.

Rescue and Recovery

Shihui Aburame, also called Shiki, arranged their extraction by hiring Konan. Kusagakure’s ninja did not notice the operation and later treated the mother and daughter as missing persons 194.

After rescuing them, Shiki treated Chihori with the Mystical Palm Technique and a Vitality Leaf. He offered to teach both women sealing jutsu so that they could eventually assist him, rather than continue exploiting their bodies 84.

In Konoha, he provided a spacious, two-story house belonging to the Hyuga Clan, 200,000 ryō, and further treatment for Chihori’s remaining bite marks. Training and Admission to Konoha

Chihori and Karin later practiced sealing jutsu at a secret treehouse in the Forest of Death. Five years after their early training, they were fairly proficient practitioners, though their overall strength remained no higher than Chunin level 129.

Shihui subsequently supplied Uzumaki sealing techniques. He divided the material into portions to prevent premature practice and reduce the possibility of leaks 139.

When Tsunade formally welcomed them as Konoha ninja, Chihori and Karin concealed the fact that they had already lived in the village for years. Tsunade invited them to stay at the Senju compound; Chihori helped Shizune prepare their welcome dinner 165.

Revenge Against Kusagakure

Chihori had once survived with the hope of killing her abusers, but after her rescue, repaying Shihui became more important than revenge. When he proposed returning to Kusagakure, she worried about his safety and the possibility of provoking a wider conflict 187.

She nevertheless joined Shihui, Karin, and Sasuke on the unofficial mission to seize the Box of Ultimate Bliss. Chihori prepared a scroll listing nineteen enemies and briefed Shihui on Kusagakure’s opposing Grass’s Fruit and Grass’s Flower factions 193 194.

Confronting the village leader, Chihori rejected his claim that Kusagakure had saved her and that her exploitation had been her duty. She killed him with Adamantine Sealing Chains, then fought alongside Karin against the ninja Shihui lured outside the village. At Hozuki Castle, she completed her revenge by killing the captured officials Saru, Hitsuji, Uma, and Ushi 194 195.

Afterward, Chihori resolved to devote herself to repaying Shihui’s kindness. She appeared noticeably lighter in spirit and later helped Karin restrain Satori 195 198.

Life in the City of Fire

Chihori and Karin eventually moved from Konoha to the City of Fire, living near the royal palace rather than with Shihui. Chihori supported her daughter’s relationship with him and continued welcoming him with home-cooked meals 306.

During Karin’s birthday dinner, Karin asked whether her mother would continue living with them. Shihui invited both women to move into the palace, and Chihori hesitantly agreed 307.

Even after recognizing that he would not abandon them, she remains excessively deferential, voluntarily treating herself as a maid despite his objections 99 129 130.

Gratitude drives her training. She recognizes that Shihui’s supposed exchange gives them lasting strength at an extraordinary bargain, and she prioritizes learning sealing jutsu to become useful to him 139 187.

Her usual restraint does not prevent decisive violence against her abusers. Once her revenge is complete, she becomes more playful and openly enjoys the sense of family she shares with Karin and Shihui 194 195 198.
