Background / History
Previous Life and Shrek Academy
Tang San retains memories and martial knowledge from a previous life associated with the Tang Sect. Hidden weapons, poisons, movement techniques, and the Mysterious Heaven Skill form the foundation of his early fighting style. Yu Tianlong considers this knowledge valuable enough to obtain and potentially distribute to major organizations 80 103 107 155.
At Shrek Academy, Tang San studies under Yu Xiaogang and becomes the tactical center of its seven-member team. His relationship with Xiao Wu has already lasted six years when their confrontation with Yu Tianlong exposes the limits of his promise to protect her 83 118 146.
Conflict with Yu Tianlong
Tang San’s hidden-weapon attack fails to injure Yu Tianlong, including an assault aimed at his eyes. When Xiao Wu loses an arm, Tang San initially cries out but falls silent under threat. He then moves aside when Yu Tianlong directs killing intent toward her and describes her as only his little sister 80 83.
Yu Tianlong demands Tang San’s treasured knowledge in exchange for lives. After several attempts to negotiate, Tang San chooses his own release rather than that of his companions. Xiao Wu severs their relationship, while the other Shrek members condemn him 83 84.
Despite surrendering his knowledge, Tang San is subjected to sexual violence involving mating apes at Yu Tianlong’s instigation. Zhao Wuji eventually rescues him. Tang San survives but develops an enduring desire to retaliate against Yu Tianlong 85 91.
Star Dou Great Forest
After the Titan Giant Ape takes Xiao Wu, Tang San struggles with the prospect of abandoning her again and decides to search for her. A collision with the ape leaves him internally injured, though the Mysterious Heaven Skill begins stabilizing his condition without deliberate activation 103.
He later faces a Man Faced Demon Spider, using his Clear Sky Hammer to expose its vulnerable underside before firing a mechanically triggered hidden weapon. The combination exhausts both his Soul Power and physical strength. Yu Tianlong intends to divert the spider’s opportunity to Dugu Yan rather than allow Tang San to benefit from it 105 106 107.
Tang San is subsequently left unconscious in the forest. After waking, he reunites with Zhao Wuji, obtains an available Soul Ring, and leaves rather than continue risking his life in the search for Xiao Wu 111 116.
Tournament and Exposure
During the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament, Tang San directs Shrek’s attacks against Elephant Armor Academy. He identifies Huyan Li as the opposing formation’s backbone and coordinates the team’s assault on him 124 146.
During a later bandit attack, his poisoned hidden weapons kill enemies throughout the surrounding thirty-meter area. This display exposes the scale of his arsenal and makes competing academies more suspicious of Shrek 155 157.
At Spirit Hall, Bibi Dong publicly identifies Tang San as the son of Tang Hao and the Blue Silver Emperor, citing his twin Martial Souls as evidence. Tang San calls for his father when his life is threatened. Spirit Hall later announces that he is an invader from another world and orders the Clear Sky Sect to surrender him 170 174.
Tang San turns on Yu Xiaogang, blaming his teacher for damaging his potential. He tortures him with the Clear Sky Hammer and Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer; a later passage confirms that Tang San killed him. The exposure of Tang San’s memories also alienates his former companions, who learn that he had considered attacking them over minor grievances 172 178.
Tang Hao’s Training and Slaughter City
Tang Hao places Tang San through waterfall training, initially sealing his Soul Power and later allowing him to train with his own Clear Sky Hammer. The conditioning strengthens his body, meridians, will, and spirit, eventually helping him reach the rank-sixty bottleneck 178 181 182.
Tang Hao’s guidance conceals another purpose: he wants Tang San to awaken his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline so that it can be stripped away and transferred to another son. Ah Yin intervenes, and Tang San subsequently loses both that bloodline and his Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul 185 186 190.
Tang San reaches Slaughter City, where Soul Skills are unusable but his Soul Power, Mysterious Heaven Skill, and hammer techniques remain available. The disappearance of his Storage Soul Tool further deprives him of his hidden-weapon supplies. Hunger eventually drives him to kill another resident for survival 189 190 197.
The God of Wrath later frees him from the influence of Yu Tianlong’s halo. Tang San resolves to obtain his sixth Soul Ring, find his former teammates, and kill Yu Tianlong’s associates in retaliation 229.
Divine Trials and Tang Chen
With the God of Wrath’s assistance, Tang San passes Hell Road and obtains Divine Slaughter’s Domain. During his divine trials, his twin Martial Souls become compatible, and he develops an eight-ring Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul 380.
A confrontation with the King of Slaughter reveals that the latter is Tang Chen, Tang San’s great-grandfather. Tang San helps him recover his senses, identifies himself through his Clear Sky Hammer, and recounts his family’s history and suffering. Tang Chen’s rank-ninety-nine cultivation and partial Asura divine power give Tang San renewed confidence 383 385 386.
Tang San then hunts powerful Soul Beasts in the Star Dou Great Forest. His gains include the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s Soul Ring, the Eight Spider Lances, and the three Qian Jun Ant Emperors’ rings. These acquisitions strengthen his body toward the divine realm and expose the need to integrate his many abilities rather than use them independently 396 400 401 409.
Battles with Qian Renxue and Final Confrontation
Before becoming a god, Tang San fights the Angel God Qian Renxue through Ring Detonation, deceptive timing, gravity manipulation, and the mutated Clear Sky Hammer. He survives severe injuries but suffers extensive meridian damage and a sharply reduced recovery rate afterward 422 424 430.
When pursued again, he escapes underground by combining earth control, reduced gravity, and defensive Soul Skills. Even after Qian Renxue shatters the projecting Eight Spider Lances, their protection across his back prevents the attack from killing him 434 436 437.
Tang San eventually completes the God of Wrath’s Nine Trials and faces Qian Renxue as a fellow god. His harsher trial experience and greater combat adaptability initially give him an advantage, but Yu Tianlong’s growing number of divine allies leaves him increasingly isolated 489 490 494 510.
At Jialing Pass, Yu Tianlong arrives with his allies and attacks without warning. Tang San responds with his strongest defensive skill; the chapter’s title announces his death 513.
Personality
Tang San combines tactical patience, pride, and a strong instinct for self-preservation. His affection for Xiao Wu is genuine enough to make him reconsider abandoning her, but his actions repeatedly place his own survival first. His decision to save himself during Yu Tianlong’s ultimatum destroys much of the trust his companions had placed in him 83 84 103.
He is intensely resentful of humiliation and perceived betrayal. He blames Yu Xiaogang for his comparatively slow advancement, tortures him after their relationship collapses, and repeatedly frames Yu Tianlong as an enemy who must pay for his suffering. His exposed memories reveal hostility toward companions over trivial disputes 91 172 229.
His ruthlessness coexists with exceptional endurance and adaptability. He can remain composed while exhausted, analyze flaws in his own technique, and change tactics under lethal pressure. After nearly dying through overconfidence, he recognizes both his carelessness and his failure to connect his numerous skills efficiently 107 395 396 436.
Even after becoming a god, he is not free of attachments. His unfinished revenge and Soul Beast children prevent him from embracing mutual destruction as readily as Qian Renxue does 494.
Appearance
- Eyes: Emit purple-gold light while he uses his heightened senses; turn fully blue during his Ring Detonation battle with Qian Renxue 155 418.
- Forehead mark: Bears the God of Wrath’s brand, described during his transformation as a face laughing in anger 401 406.
- Eight Spider Lances: Eight three-meter appendages extend from his back. Their coloration changes through red, white, and finally black, with intricate streamlined patterns appearing after their divine evolution 400 401.
- Transformed back: Develops an armor-like surface that disperses impacts and reflects damaging energy. His back later appears golden while resisting Qian Renxue’s attack 405 436.
- Divine equipment: Wears a black demonic-patterned cloak and armor with a snake-shaped right shoulder piece during his god-level battle 490 510.
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
A control-oriented Martial Soul used for binding, containment, detection, and battlefield support. Tang San eventually masters it with the God of Wrath’s help, although its Blue Silver Emperor bloodline remains unawakened in the later comparison with his hammer 178 409 422.
- Entanglement: Directs strands to bind targets or clear obstacles such as spider silk 398.
- Spider Web Restraint: Third Soul Skill; creates a descending net more than twenty meters across 390.
- Blue Silver Cage: Fourth Soul Skill; raises sixteen strands to confine a target 398.
- Blue Silver Avatar: Appears during his eight-ring battle against the King of Slaughter 383.
- Blue Silver Skyquake: Helps pinpoint the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger’s location 391.
- Energy recovery: Can forcibly drain surrounding Blue Silver Grass to restore Soul Power 395.
- Environmental union: While applying Great Sumeru Hammer’s method through Blue Silver Grass, can merge with surrounding grass without releasing his domain. Switching to the Clear Sky Hammer ends this effect 423.
Clear Sky Hammer
His second Martial Soul develops from a five-hundred-jin weapon without attached rings into a divine-power-mutated hammer focused on overwhelming strength 106 422.
- Thrown attacks: Can precisely control its accuracy within ten meters during his early spider battle 107.
- Strength-focused rings: The Dark Demon Evil God Tiger and Qian Jun Ant Emperor rings greatly enhance its offensive potential 422 423.
- Gravity Control: Alters its effective weight, reaching five hundred thousand jin against the Ant Emperors and one million jin during a timed attack on Qian Renxue 404 405 424.
- Ant Emperor defense: Its fifth Soul Skill grants a protective shell stronger than the beasts’ original defenses 437.
- Underground movement: Uses hammer skills alongside earth control to break through soil and reduce the pressure of deep burial 436.
Hammer Techniques
- Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer: Used in battle, training, and the torture of Yu Xiaogang. Tang Hao teaches that it can be applied forward or in reverse 172 181.
- Great Sumeru Hammer: Unifies his strength into a domineering hammer method; he fully masters it while resisting the simultaneous absorption of three rings 408 409.
- Ring Detonation: Explodes a ring’s stored power into temporary personal strength. Higher-quality rings produce greater effects, and Tang San applies the method to both Martial Souls 422.
- Thousand-Jun Air-Breaking Hammer: Second form of Hammer of Wrath, used after inheriting the divine position 490.
Ring Detonation limits:
- Prevents the affected Martial Soul from using Soul Skills during its application 422 436.
- Causes the rings to disappear for three days after use 422.
- Can inflict severe meridian damage, weaken physical attributes, and reduce Soul Power recovery to one-fifth of its normal rate 430.
- His later attempt to detonate eight rings simultaneously exceeds anything attributed to the technique’s creator 438.
Tang Sect Secret Arts
- Mysterious Heaven Skill: Cultivates internal power, stabilizes internal injuries, protects meridians, and supports sustained combat 103 408 436.
- Hidden weapons: Uses refined iron, Bone-Piercing, Armor-Piercing, and Overlord Needles, frequently coated with paralyzing or lethal poison 155.
- Mechanically triggered weapons: Deliver powerful attacks without internal-power assistance. His strongest early launcher weighs over thirty jin and must be primed shortly before use to avoid damaging its mechanism 107.
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track: Evasive movement technique used alongside hidden weapons to delay pursuit 188.
- Guanyin’s Tear: Prepared as a final attack against Qian Renxue after detonating his remaining ring and consuming Oscar’s Firm Golden Fly 428.
Eight Spider Lances
A divine-grade External Soul Bone acquired much later than the opportunity Yu Tianlong originally denied him. Its evolution strengthens both its offensive appendages and the armor-like protection across Tang San’s back 105 400 401 405.
- Devour Black Silk: Pierces targets and drains their energy within the range of his spiritual power 401.
- Energy purification: Converts drained power into pure, attribute-free energy that can merge directly with his Soul Power 407.
- Poison transmission: Carries toxins even through its energy-form threads 407.
- Defensive dispersion: Spreads incoming force across his back and can reflect damaging energy into an attacker 405.
- Divine-power absorption: Draws power from Qian Renxue’s golden flames to replenish him 419.
- Residual protection: The lances’ projecting limbs can shatter while their integrated back defense remains effective 436.
Wrath Divine Power and Spiritual Perception
- Emotion-based recovery: Draws on the world’s anger, helping him recover even from extensive meridian damage 431.
- Divine transformation: Gradually improves his flesh, meridians, and Soul Bones during the inheritance trials 400 401.
- Spiritual tracking: Locks onto concealed targets and surveys wide areas before dangerous absorption attempts 395 397.
- Invisibility: Allows flight and Martial Soul release without immediate exposure, but offensive Soul Skills reveal him 398.
- Divine Sense integration: Eventually brings his many abilities into a coherent combat system 510.
Tactical Command
- Team coordination: Directs Shrek’s members toward the most effective targets and identifies structural weaknesses in enemy formations 146.
- Psychological manipulation: Exploits Qian Renxue’s expectations about his earlier attacks to conceal the danger of his hammer strike 424.
- Skill chaining: Develops combinations involving Soul Bone attacks, Blue Silver Grass control, hammer strikes, and hidden weapons. Initially struggles with transition delays and unnecessary expenditure 396 398 400.
