Career in *Calamity*

Ye Hongling became known as Chiling, the Flame Mage Queen, attracting a million followers. She openly pursued Buyu and confessed her love through a sea of flames 1.

She recalled their first meeting as a high-difficulty fire-element dungeon expedition, where she hired him as one of her fighters. She later credited his participation with allowing the group to clear it smoothly 49. A later account describes their introduction as an encounter in an extremely dangerous valley while leveling, where they teamed up to defeat the valley’s boss 615.

Tracking Buyu After the Merge

After Calamity merged with reality, Ye Hongling suspected that Buyu had obtained the world’s first epic equipment. By connecting the Trading Space’s opening with online reports of a large fire battle, she narrowed his location to Linhai City, Jiangnan Province, despite his efforts to conceal his online identity 7.

She subsequently waited above Linhai City’s world-boss battlefield to verify her deduction. Recognizing Buyu as he descended in flames, she pursued him, but he killed the Mountain-Carrying Demon Turtle and immediately concealed himself with Hidden Shadow, Formless. Although she failed to catch him, she confirmed that he was operating in the city 29 30.

Many witnesses mistakenly credited Ye Hongling with the world boss’s defeat. She knew that she could not have breached its barrier even at full strength and was frustrated that Buyu had used her presence to conceal his own involvement 30.

Fire Flame Abyss Expedition

Ye Hongling exchanged information with her romantic rival, Su Jinyu: she revealed Buyu’s activity in Linhai City and received a photograph of him. She then secured his help for the Fire Flame Abyss by offering a high-tier skill scroll as payment 43.

With fourteen days remaining before the Blood Moon Calamity, she organized an expedition to an offshore volcano containing the abyss. She recruited six fire-element transcendents in addition to Buyu, but privately regarded him as the only reliable guarantee against the monsters outside her trial 44 45.

Inside the trial pillar, extreme heat and a repeatedly reviving fire dragon left her severely burned. Buyu entered to protect her, and she removed his mask and kissed him. Using Desire’s Flame Rekindled, she converted desire into power, healed her burns, and regained the strength to continue 48 49.

After completing the inheritance, she gave Buyu the promised scroll and purchased Heavenly Meteor Descends from him for 100 million yuan. She learned his face but not his real name, which he continued to withhold 49.

After the Inheritance

Ye Hongling arranged payment for the expedition’s other fighters and promptly transferred Buyu’s purchase money as 1,000,000 gold. She then flew to Lu City specifically to tell Su Jinyu about their kisses during the trial 50.

She used Buyu’s jacket as evidence when Su Jinyu refused to believe her account. After provoking Su Jinyu into attacking, she burned the incoming sword shadows away and departed satisfied 51.

Blood Moon Calamity

During the Blood Moon Calamity, Ye Hongling fought the monster tide in Zhecheng. Her Heavenfall spell summoned a barrage of enormous meteors that annihilated large numbers of high-level Calamity Beasts, temporarily raising her to second place on the leaderboard behind Uesawa Naoki. After learning that Calamity Demon Generals were guarding a gigantic stone coffin in Linhai City, she left the remaining monsters to other defenders and went to reinforce Buyu 84.

She joined Zhao Yixue in battling the Calamity Demon Generals. Together, they defeated two, while the last escaped to the Twin Demon God and was absorbed to restore his complete form. Zhao Yixue protected Ye Hongling from an abrupt saber attack, and Ye Hongling attempted to contain the Demon God with Red Lotus Forbidden Domain, but he broke through their defenses 88 89.

Ye Hongling later helped suppress one of the Twin Demon God’s bodies alongside Zhao Yixue, the Moonlight Wolf Soul, and Chen Nian’s weapon, Startled Dragon. With Zhao Yixue weakening its defenses through Absolute Zero, she struck it with Divine Spear of Heavenly Fire, synchronizing its death with that of the other body a thousand li away 93.

Heavenly Demon Tower and Island Defense

Ye Hongling intercepted the Storm Thunder Bird, killed it with a crimson divine spear, and took the Storm Thunder Bracers Chen Nian needed to complete his legendary equipment set. She used the equipment to draw him away from Su Jinyu for a private meeting, while also collecting the bird’s blood essence so he could enter the Heavenly Demon Tower 134.

At the tower, she gave him both the bracers and an Arcane enchantment gem. Her plan was to climb the tower and defeat its Demon God with him, accomplishing something his other romantic interests had not and encouraging the public to associate them as a pair 134.

They were the first to reach the tower. Ye Hongling cleared its first four floors with overwhelming firepower, allowing Chen Nian to gain experience without fighting; by the fifth floor, some elite monsters could survive her inferno 135.

When the Deep Sea Demon God threatened the island, she used her staff to establish a vast flame barrier. Zhao Yixue, Su Jinyu, and the other powerful fighters poured their own power into it, enabling the barrier to stop the Demon God’s enormous fist, though maintaining it placed severe strain on her 138.

Capital Tournament and Divinity Awakening

Ye Hongling appeared as a special guest contestant at a martial tournament in the Capital. After locating Chen Nian in the audience, she introduced herself to his sister, Ning Ziqing, as his girlfriend. She explained that the Capital was her father’s territory and that his visit had not escaped her notice 147.

When the Mind-Bewitching Demon God used Murano Shota to disrupt the tournament and control transcendents, General Ye ordered her back to intervene. She resisted the Demon God’s mental influence by burning herself and using the pain to maintain her clarity 148 149.

The controlled transcendents placed her in a difficult position: her large-area spells could kill allies and create serious consequences for her father’s position. She therefore formed a blade of fire and attempted to break through to the enemy in close combat 150.

Chen Nian ultimately lured the Heart Demon into his own body and destroyed it. Ye Hongling, initially unsure whether he remained controlled, was distressed that he had struck her during the operation. Afterward, he comforted her and gave her the Divine Gene obtained from the Demon God, which he could not use because he had already fused with one 151 153.

She fused with the gene and awakened the Vermilion Bird Divinity. Its sacred fire burned away her clothing, and she kissed Chen Nian before he hurried back to Linhai City ahead of Su Jinyu’s arrival 153.

Vermilion Bird Blood Essence Expedition

Ye Hongling later sought Chen Nian’s help because advancing her Divinity required a drop of genuine Vermilion Bird blood essence. She visited his home and encountered Gu Qingyue, whose exploration teams had found traces of a fiery divine beast on the Lost Continent 261 262.

During this visit, she explained that a Divinity could retain residual consciousness capable of affecting its bearer’s temperament. She suggested that Su Jinyu’s condition might be addressed either by forcibly eliminating that consciousness or by fulfilling its unresolved obsession 262.

Using Gu Qingyue’s map, Ye Hongling and Chen Nian traveled through the World Gate to the Lost Continent. They encountered an Eastern Wilderness tribe whose high priest falsely presented the Vermilion Bird as its guardian beast. Ye Hongling noticed inconsistencies in his account, while the tribe secretly intended to use the visitors to break the bird’s protective barrier 264.

The Vermilion Bird initially distrusted them, believing they were associated with its pursuers and interpreting Ye Hongling’s existing Vermilion Bird power as evidence that she had killed another of its kind. She tried to reassure it that they meant no harm and would not take its egg 265.

She subsequently absorbed Vermilion Bird blood essence and successfully advanced her Divinity, rewarding Chen Nian with a kiss for protecting her during the breakthrough 269 274. After returning for Spring Festival, she continued her rivalry with Su Jinyu, including a clash of sword techniques and divine fire through their chopsticks at the reunion dinner 270.

Before leaving to hatch the egg entrusted to her, she shared information from the Vermilion Bird’s memories concerning the location associated with the Mysterious Lady of the Nine Heavens’ Divinity. She initially hesitated because she considered the destination dangerously beyond even Chen Nian’s abilities 274.

Changnian City and Xiao Zhu’s Hatching

Ye Hongling joined Zhao Yixue, Shangze Sakura, and Tang Rou in protecting Gu Qingyue as Eastern Wilderness forces advanced on Changnian City 281. During the fighting, she faced Elaine, Lighthouse Country’s strongest transcendent and bearer of Thor’s Divinity. His Lightning Spear forced her back dozens of meters, and she struggled to hold him off 287.

Afterward, she devoted herself to tending the Vermilion Bird egg in a hidden chamber at her Zhecheng home. Chen Nian visited as the egg neared hatching, and the newborn bird immediately showed affection toward both of them because they carried Vermilion Bird blood essence 301.

The elder Vermilion Bird’s phantom thanked them for protecting his little sister and revealed that his origin divine power now belonged to them. Ye Hongling’s flames became purer and stronger, while Chen Nian gained the ability to use Vermilion Bird Divine Fire. Ye Hongling named the newborn Xiao Zhu and cared for her with pronounced maternal affection 301.

The Swan and Hawaii

Ye Hongling received an invitation to Black Swan’s ball aboard the Swan and attended without a male companion. She nearly fought Zhao Yixue before staff intervened. Xiao Zhu, disguised as a feather ornament in her hair, detected Chen Nian’s presence and alerted her that he had arrived with another woman 382 383.

At the dance, Ye Hongling attempted to choose Chen Nian as her partner, adding to the confrontation among herself, Su Jinyu, and Zhao Yixue 384.

When the visiting fighter Yu Jin defeated Black Swan’s enforcers and other challengers, Ye Hongling stepped forward. She burned Yu Jin with a flame phantom and drew her out over the sea, where her mobility and fire spells gave her the advantage. Yu Jin shattered her Heavenly Fire Meteorite, but could not overcome her. Ye Hongling’s subsequent Vermilion Bird fire sword forced Jing Feng to intervene and save Yu Jin 386.

Acknowledging that Jing Feng was stronger than she was, Ye Hongling called on Chen Nian to face him 386 387.

She later met Chen Nian in Hawaii, where her flirtation again provoked Su Jinyu’s jealousy 395 396 397. When accommodation was scarce, she won a pebble game that ostensibly assigned Chen Nian to stay with her. A later account establishes that he went to Su Jinyu instead 397 403.

Later Battles and Relationship Developments

During the fight against the Level 80, Lord Class–Tier Five Carrion Giant Monster, Ye Hongling’s ordinary attacks failed to inflict meaningful damage. She proposed strengthening Chen Nian’s Zhurong with Vermilion Bird’s Wrath and transferred her divine flames to him after they reached the monster’s upper surface 446.

She also joined Su Jinyu and Zhao Yixue in confronting Chen Nian during his visit to Queen Qin Yu. Xiao Zhu exposed his hiding place behind the throne, after which Ye Hongling teased him about concealing himself 450.

When a memory-loss incident affected recollections of Chen Nian, Ye Hongling could not remember their relationship but recognized the inconsistency between that absence and their intimate WeChat exchanges. Tang Rou explained the situation, which Ye Hongling understood particularly quickly 584.

During Chen Nian’s month-long return before leaving for Mu Yun’s fantasy world, Ye Hongling was his final visit.
