Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cosmic Throne | 1644 | Historically attained the realm while cultivating desperately and searching for his missing beloved. |
| Five Emperors Thrones | 1109 1273 1355 | Established as possessing five clones, each a Cosmic Throne expert. Unlike ordinary cultivators, who normally obtain recognition from one throne, he possesses five. |
| Infinitely close to Universe Strongest | 1555 1568 | Already possesses the strength needed to advance, but says advancement requires completely fusing his clones. He is reluctant to do so, and Desolate Heaven Throne has instructed him not to advance. |
| Limit Throne | 1832 | Explicitly described as a Limit Throne when he resumes command after learning of Desolate Heaven Throne’s death; the passage also calls a Limit Throne a “strongest being.” |
| Demigod-level Five Emperors Dragon | 1881 1882 | Merges all five clones through a pentagram formation, revealing his five-headed dragon true body. His physical strength initially overwhelms the overconfident Nether Heavenly God. |
- Universe Strongest terminology varies: one passage calls both him and Desolate Heaven Throne Universe Strongest, while later passages describe him as below that level. No clear breakthrough scene accompanies these descriptions 1623 1672 1729.
- Fusion is not a newly acquired technique: his clones had already fought together during a previous Heavenly War of Destruction, and his fused fighting form was known to veteran human experts 1778 1882.
Identity and the Five Emperors
- A shared title: “Five Emperors City Lord” refers to the being represented by five clones, not merely to whichever emperor occupies the City Lord’s residence 1270 1273.
- Separate responsibilities: the emperors oversee different duties, including punishment, protection, and peace 1109 1270.
- Developing individuality: Wind Emperor Throne admits that he increasingly feels like an individual rather than simply the City Lord. Desolate Heaven Throne identifies this as the development of an independent will, while noting that Wind Emperor is not the controlling self 1458.
- Unidentified members: the supplied passages name three of the five emperor clones 1273 1458.
| Known clone | Responsibilities and characteristics |
|---|---|
| Flame Emperor Throne | Presides over Five Emperors City and governs criminal law, killing, and punishment. Usually encountered meditating in the City Lord’s residence 1109 1114 1543. |
| Purple Emperor Throne | Oversees protection and peace; introduces himself as the Virtual World Group’s foremost authority. Cultivates the Law of Mingdao and possesses the strongest soul will among the five clones 1270 1568 1775. |
| Wind Emperor Throne | Azure-robed clone who accompanies Desolate Heaven Throne into the Spiral Labyrinth while the other four emperors are occupied 1458. |
Background / History
The City Lord is a Dragon Clan mutant who was driven out by his own clan. He later became one of humanity’s earliest powerhouses, rising before the Human Race was divided into Cosmic Kingdoms. Together with Desolate Heaven Throne, he studied under Primogenitor from the era of humanity’s founding 1241 1831 1882.
Before the first Heavenly War of Destruction, he loved a woman who disappeared after entering a spatial wormhole. He searched the ten great universes and continued seeking her after reaching Cosmic Throne. Desolate Heaven Throne later urged him to resume that search, recalling her long devotion to him 1644.
Later accounts describe his beloved wife as having died because of the Heavenly War of Destruction, and specifically identify the Underworld Clan’s first ancestor as her killer. Her death is the source of his blood feud with that clan. These passages do not explain how the earlier disappearance account relates to her death 1830 1866.
During a previous Heavenly War of Destruction, his five clones fought together with enough power to deter even titled Apostle nobles. By the main story, he leads the Virtual World Group and is regarded as humanity’s second-strongest powerhouse after Desolate Heaven Throne 1555 1778.
Appearance
| Form | Distinguishing features |
|---|---|
| Flame Emperor | Red robes, well-proportioned features, and a naturally commanding presence. His deep-red eyes appear to contain an endless realm of fire, while undying flame fluctuations surround his meditation 1114. |
| Purple Emperor | Purple-and-gold robes, flawless fair skin, and an exceptionally beautiful, almost holy face. His aura can inspire an involuntary desire to submit 1269 1270. |
| Wind Emperor | Appears as an azure-robed man 1458. |
| Five Emperors Dragon | Colossal five-headed dragon with ten eyes, enormous claws, and wings that blot out the sky. His body dwarfs even the Bauhinia Star Beast 1882. |
Personality
The City Lord’s reputation rests on impartiality as much as strength. He administers rewards and punishments without favoritism and is willing to punish his own people for wrongdoing. His decision to share the Virtual World System with other human factions is cited as a major example of his selflessness 1241 1544 1641.
His integrity is respected beyond humanity. He does not bully the weak or habitually provoke conflict, and maintains friendships with members of other races. Even skeptical alien experts give weight to information bearing his name 1721.
As a teacher, he combines demanding expectations with practical protection. He warns Chu Tiannan against reckless cultivation, respects his choices, and seeks his permission before revealing sensitive information to humanity’s leaders. His long administrative experience also makes him more adept at intrigue than the cultivation-focused Desolate Heaven Throne 1114 1546 1640 1730.
His clones display contrasting temperaments. Purple Emperor initially presents himself as gentler than Flame Emperor, but later narration calls him the worst-tempered of the five. Threats to Chu Tiannan repeatedly provoke his anger 1270 1744 1790. Desolate Heaven Throne’s death leaves him briefly unable to accept reality, though he regains command when reminded of humanity’s immediate danger 1830 1831 1832.
Abilities & Skills
Five Clones and Fusion
- Each clone independently possesses Cosmic Throne cultivation and can operate in a different location 1355 1569.
- A single fully exerted clone can match a Universe Strongest who lacks a Sacred Treasure weapon 1751.
- Their combined strength made even titled Apostle nobles reluctant to confront him during the Heavenly War of Destruction 1778.
- Complete fusion reveals the Five Emperors Dragon, rather than a stronger humanoid form 1881 1882.
- He can separate into five clones again after transforming 1889.
Five Emperors Dragon
- Activates through “Five Emperors Revolution, shifting stars!” and a pentagram formation occupied by his five selves 1881.
- Releases purple, azure, white, red, and silver rays before the clones merge 1881.
- Possesses sufficient physical force to seize Nether Heavenly God and drive him through the starry domain 1882.
- Remains a Demigod, not a Heavenly God; the transformation does not remove the danger posed by Nether Heavenly God 1882 1885.
Law of Mingdao and Soul Will
- Purple Emperor’s Mingdao clone derives from power obtained from the Chaos Lord and is described as exceptionally pure 1568.
- Uses Mingdao power for combat and attempts to awaken Chu Tiannan’s unconscious companions, but the latter application fails 1568 1729.
- Possesses the strongest soul will among the five clones and can recognize the soul-will contest between Chu Tiannan and Flash Demon 1775.
- His Mingdao power does not indicate Underworld Clan allegiance, despite other characters initially making that assumption 1275 1729.
Spatial and Spacetime Techniques
- Opens spatial gateways and gates through spacetime to transport himself and others 1567 1569.
- Exerts pressure throughout Five Emperors City, limiting the environmental damage caused by powerful combatants 1323.
- Can reverse spacetime for resurrection, but could not restore the Chaos Lord after the circumstances of his death 1114 1355.
- Cannot enter certain restricted regions of the Cosmic Divine Domain because of the Supreme Will of the Universe’s influence 1569.
Combat Techniques
| Technique | Demonstrated use or limitation |
|---|---|
| Purple Flowing Shadow | Evasive movement that leaves a string of purple afterimages; used against Flash Demon 1772. |
| Second Wasteland Shakes Mountains and Rivers | Powerful palm strike used during the battle with Flash Demon 1772. |
| Third Wasteland Opens Chaos | Follow-up palm strike; Flash Demon’s Higanbana absorbs the attack’s power and redirects it 1772. |
| Flame Sword Scar | Sword attack powerful enough to exceed ordinary Throne experts’ attacks, but unable to break the unusual confinement sealing the spacetime gates 1833. |
Administration and Strategy
- Directs the Virtual World Group and receives intelligence through Asila, the virtual world’s core system 1166 1555.
- Uses shared information strategically, publicizing the fire-passage route to draw more races into opposition against the Dark Alliance 1721.
- Coordinates with allies rather than relying solely on personal strength, including arranging for Heavenly Dragon Throne and Papal Throne to restrain Flash Demon 1790.
Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Purple longsword — Summoned when he attacks Flash Demon after learning that Chu Tiannan is trapped inside the sanctuary 1790.

- Desolate Heaven Throne — Eldest senior brother and a bond closer than ordinary kinship. Supports his leadership, restrains his temper, and entrusts humanity’s protection to him before dying 1623 1744 1830 1831.
- Chu Tiannan — Disciple, appointed second-in-command of the Virtual World Group, and intended successor. The appointment grants Chu Tiannan authority equal to the City Lord’s 1270 1621.
- Chaos Lord — Former comrade and Heavenly Ladder teammate; disciple of Flame Emperor. The City Lord mourns his loss and is later shocked to see his former companion appear behind the Underworld Clan 1114 1270 1879.
- Azure Heaven Lord and Big Dipper Lord — Senior disciples consulted about Chu Tiannan’s succession; both accept the decision 1621.
- Asila — Core virtual-world system responsible for intelligence, observation, communications, and route information 1166 1555 1569.
- Prophet Seat — Visits him with a vision concerning Chu Tiannan and later helps deliver news of Desolate Heaven Throne’s death 1308 1830.
- Ming Tian Xing — Longstanding opponent with whom he has exchanged blows. The City Lord personally bars the Underworld Clan’s advance during humanity’s crisis 1731 1866.
