Background

Ning Rongrong grew up surrounded by the affection of her father, Ning Fengzhi, and the sect’s two powerful elders, Chen Xin and Gu Rong. As Ning Fengzhi’s only daughter, with exceptional innate talent and both elders’ protection, she faced no serious competition for the position of sect heir 2 24.

Ning Fengzhi privately hoped that her innate rank-nine Soul Power would allow her to surpass the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s direct-line cultivation limit and become its first Titled Douluo. He concealed this expectation from Rongrong and Chen Ci to avoid burdening them while they were young 2.

Personality

Rongrong is proud, outspoken, and accustomed to being indulged. As a child, she dislikes exhausting training and initially absorbs only part of her whale rubber under her father’s insistence. Seeing Chen Ci’s much higher Soul Ring tolerance makes her regret neglecting body tempering; she later completes the process before reaching rank twenty 5 6 11.

Her desire for independence coexists with a strong reliance on Chen Ci. She runs away to prove that she can manage without her father and honorary grandfathers, but becomes frightened when traveling alone after dark. His arrival restores her confidence, and she readily follows his lead during their subsequent journey 9 10 11.

She is affectionate and possessive toward her fiancé, questioning him about other girls and pinching his waist when she notices him looking at the academy’s admissions officer. Her generosity extends beyond him: she welcomes the injured Zhu Zhuqing and gives her a valuable healing pill 10 13 22.

Rongrong also refuses to defer automatically to authority. At Shrek, she challenges Flender over the academy’s reputation and its students’ behavior, then openly declares that his Soul Saint strength does not intimidate the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect 20 21.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Engagement and First Soul Hunt

Ning Fengzhi proposes a marriage between Rongrong and Chen Ci after recognizing his talent. Rongrong agrees on the declared condition that Chen Ci become the world’s strongest Power Attack System Soul Master, though privately she admits that being able to protect her would be enough 2 3.

Their first hunt brings them closer. Rather than fearing the blood-covered Chen Ci after his fight with the Rock-Patterned Giant Bear, she worries whether he has been injured. Chen Xin deliberately leaves them with the impression that Chen Ci is guarding her during absorption, encouraging their attachment 8.

Running Away and Meeting Zhu Zhuqing

After graduating from the sect’s junior Soul Master Academy six years later, Rongrong leaves home for Shrek. Unknown to her, Chen Xin removes dangers along her route, while Ning Fengzhi sends Chen Ci to find her. She reunites with her fiancé in tears after becoming frightened in a dark forest 9.

Continuing toward Suotuo City, the pair encounter Zhu Zhuqing fleeing mounted bandits. Rongrong provides enhancements during the rescue and subsequent pursuit, then offers Zhu Zhuqing a healing pill and welcomes her into their traveling group 11 12 13.

Rejection of Shrek Academy

Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing pass Shrek’s aptitude test, but Rongrong questions its reputation after learning that it previously had only three students. When Flender introduces Ma Hongjun as one of its talents, she exposes his earlier attempt to force himself on her and Zhu Zhuqing 18 20.

Her confrontation with Flender ends with the trio leaving for Heaven Dou Royal Academy. When Flender tells her to leave, Chen Ci stresses that she is choosing to depart rather than being expelled 21.

Heaven Dou Royal Academy

Rongrong enrolls as a rank-31 Soul Elder and is assigned Heaven Dou Grade instruction alongside Chen Ci and Zhu Zhuqing. She insists on sharing accommodation with her fiancé, while Zhu Zhuqing moves next door 22 23.

Her position as sect heir makes her a target for imperial recruitment. She senses that the princes’ invitation has a hidden purpose, rejects Xue Beng’s offer, and lets Chen Ci handle the increasingly persistent proposals. He ultimately accepts Xue Qinghe’s offer on their behalf 24.

During a later spar against Yu Tianheng and Dugu Yan, Yu Tianheng attempts to bypass Chen Ci and attack Rongrong. Chen Ci counters with his control skills and defeats him before the tactic succeeds 26.
