Background / History

Chen Ci arrived on Douluo Continent in his original body, retaining knowledge of the setting and its future opportunities. At his Martial Soul awakening, he recognized his two swords as the Passionate Sword and Ruthless Sword associated with Amorous Douluo and Ruthless Douluo in Legend of the Dragon King. Their awakening briefly stirred the village’s emotions before filling the sky with Sword Qi 1.

Chen Xin brought him into the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect as his final disciple. Ning Fengzhi proposed an engagement with Ning Rongrong, who agreed on the stated condition that Chen Ci become the world’s strongest Power Attack System Soul Master. Chen Ci was also identified as an orphan, leading Ning Fengzhi to regard the future marriage as effectively bringing him into the sect’s family 1 2 3 8.

At Sword Peak, Chen Ci learned swordsmanship while using the sect’s resources to obtain whale rubber for body tempering. He also spent time in the library to establish a plausible explanation for his unusual knowledge. After his first Soul Ring hunt, he continued his education at a junior Soul Master Academy belonging to the sect, graduating alongside Rongrong six years later 4 5 9.

Personality

Chen Ci approaches cultivation with persistence rather than confidence in his own genius. Despite repeatedly astonishing Chen Xin, he believes repetition compensates for shortcomings and later credits painstaking practice for preserving the inspiration behind his own sword technique. He cultivates even while travelling, believing that strength is necessary to control his destiny 4 11 13 25.

He is patient and protective toward Rongrong, listening to her fears without interruption and intervening when opponents threaten her. His treatment of enemies is considerably harsher: he pursues fleeing bandits and refuses to dismiss Ma Hongjun’s attempt to seize his companions 10 12 14 26.

His decisions also reflect calculated self-interest. He uses his foreknowledge to pursue valuable opportunities and considers how relationships can support his plans. However, he is capable of reassessing a mistake, as shown when he recognizes that approaching Dugu Bo immediately after accepting imperial investment could create an unwanted political signal 9 23 24 25.
