Background / History

Lineage and Old Injuries

Mu En descends from Yu Xiaogang's lineage within the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus Rex Clan. By the time he planned his return to Dragon City, he had not visited the clan for over twenty years and was considered its longest-lived member 49.

A battle with Du Busi of the Body Sect left Mu En with a hidden ailment. Although a subsequently obtained dragon core helped him reach rank 99, its balefulness severely damaged his origin, caused paralysis, and left him unable to straighten his back. He later estimated that he had less than twenty years to live and believed complete treatment would require an immortal herb capable of repairing the divine soul 11.

At the beginning of the story, Mu Changqing and Bei Bei were his only surviving blood relatives. Concerned about Shrek's gap between generations, Mu En hoped to raise them into Titled Douluos before his death; he considered Xuan Zi unreliable as a successor and believed Zhang Lexuan still needed time to mature 1 4.

Awakening Shrek's Successors

Mu En personally awakened the twins' Martial Souls. Bei Bei inherited his Holy Dragon of Light, while Mu Changqing's original Holy Dragon of Light was consumed and replaced by the Golden Dragon King's power. Mu En supplied light-element Soul Power to ease Changqing's pain and protected Bei Bei and Zhang Lexuan from the awakening's pressure 2 3.

After confirming that both twins possessed innate full Soul Power, Mu En secured unanimous elder approval to appoint Changqing as heir to the Sea God Pavilion mastership and Bei Bei as heir to the deputy mastership. Both received elders' rights. He placed Changqing in the Martial Soul Department and Bei Bei in the Soul Tool Department to balance the academy's competing factions 4 5.

Life Crystal and Recovery

When Mu Changqing brought Na'er to meet him, Mu En sensed a bloodline capable of suppressing his Holy Dragon of Light. He suspected a Silver Dragon Martial Soul and suggested that she and Changqing might eventually possess a Martial Soul Fusion Skill 11.

Changqing then gave him a Life Crystal, also called Gold of Life. Mu En recognized its concentrated life essence as a possible treatment and entered seclusion through a hidden passage into the Golden Ancient Tree, leaving Xuan Zi responsible for academy affairs 11.

He emerged one year and two months later after completely absorbing the crystal. Although not fully cured, he could walk unaided and declared that he could live another fifty years. His heightened cultivation also strengthened his sense that an invisible force was manipulating the continent 22 23.

Golden and Silver Dragon Incident

Mu En conducted Na'er's Martial Soul awakening, confirming her Silver Dragon Martial Soul. Her awakening triggered Changqing's Golden Dragon King bloodline, and the two subsequently manifested a nine-colored Dragon God phantom. Even Mu En's Holy Dragon of Light involuntarily submitted to its bloodline pressure 23 24.

When the fusion ended, Mu En caught both unconscious children and treated them with his Soul Power. He ordered Xuan Zi to destroy the flying Soul Tools spying on Shrek. After examining Na'er repeatedly, he found a human physique rather than evidence that she was a transformed Soul Beast, and instructed the Pavilion elders to keep her ability to condense Soul Rings secret 24 25.

Passing Down His Legacy

Mu En taught Changqing his three self-created supreme techniques, asking him to teach Na'er after comprehending them. He reserved Bei Bei's instruction until the latter obtained five Soul Rings. When Changqing could not use Dragon Emperor's Evil-Shattering Rift, Mu En encouraged him to develop a version suited to the Golden Dragon King's strength 49.

He also arranged for Changqing to attend the outer court despite having completed its basic theory curriculum, intending for him to build his own core team. Mu En subsequently departed for Dragon City with Changqing, Bei Bei, and Na'er, hoping to persuade the Blue Lightning Tyrannosaurus Rex Clan to relocate to Shrek City for mutual support 49 50.

Academy and City Reforms

Mu En had long intended to develop Shrek's Soul Tool Department, but his poor health and the Martial Soul Department's dominance had limited his authority. After recovering, he took direct control and overruled resistance to modernization 49.

Area Changes
Soul Tool development Warned that the Sun Moon Empire possessed Soul Tools capable of contending with a Limit Douluo; assigned Bei Bei to study under Qian Duoduo and Xian Lin'er despite Yan Shaozhe's objections 5.
Departmental equality Gave the Martial Soul and Soul Tool Departments equal outer-court space and status, reducing their longstanding imbalance 46 48.
Admissions Removed the city lord recommendation requirement and lowered the minimum Soul Power requirement from rank 15 to rank 13, improving access for commoner Soul Masters 46.
Forging education Added a Forging Department, providing another route for physically strong applicants without outstanding cultivation or Soul Tool talent 46.
Free awakenings Established free Martial Soul awakening rooms at Shrek City's gates for commoner children under its jurisdiction; rejected objections from the three original Douluo empires 46 49.
Student facilities Rebuilt dormitories into separate boys' and girls' accommodation, furnished dining facilities with Soul Tool tables and chairs, and expanded the outer court's dining halls from one to four 46 48.
Inspection missions Replaced the Shrek Inspection Team with the Inspection Pavilion. Students accepted missions and formed teams rather than being compelled to participate together 46.
Student protection Opened inspection missions to outer-court students from their third year onward and recruited assessed Soul Sages or stronger experts as guard captains, who were required to protect students with their lives 46.

Appearance

  • Initially: A withered, wrinkled old man with a long white beard, first seen sitting in a wheelchair on his balcony 1 4 11.
  • Injury-related posture: Could not straighten his back and relied on a walking stick or assistance to move 1 11.
  • After treatment: Walked without a cane; black strands later appeared within his formerly white hair 22 49.

Personality

Mu En is openly affectionate toward his descendants, stroking their hair, praising their progress, and treating Na'er as another great-great-grandchild. His protectiveness persists even when he suspects that Changqing and Na'er have extraordinary origins: rather than interrogating them, he resolves to shoulder the consequences on their behalf 1 11 25.

As a leader, he combines forceful authority with political caution. He supports Soul Tools despite entrenched opposition, but initially distributes promising successors between the two departments to avoid provoking the Martial Soul faction. He also disciplines Xuan Zi's drinking and inattentiveness because he fears their consequences for student safety 5.

His later reforms reject Shrek's exclusive emphasis on admitting “monsters.” He advocates opportunities for hardworking applicants and uses his recovered authority to improve commoner access, student accommodation, and mission protection 46.

Abilities & Skills

Holy Dragon of Light

  • A powerful dragon Martial Soul associated with light and holiness, perfectly inherited by Bei Bei 2.
  • Allows Dragon Transformation, which Mu En first achieved with two Soul Rings 4 8.
  • Supplies the essential foundation for Dragon Emperor's Evil-Shattering Rift 49.
  • Remains vulnerable to the superior bloodline pressure of the Golden Dragon King, Na'er, and the Dragon God phantom despite Mu En's cultivation 3 11 24.

Sovereign's Descent

  • A self-created core combat technique combining spiritual power with physical attacks 49.
  • Defeating an opponent with it destroys their confidence, leaving them feeling unable to resist the user in later encounters 49.
  • Forms the foundation of Mu En's other two supreme techniques and does not require the Holy Dragon of Light Martial Soul 49.

Dragon Emperor's Evil-Shattering Rift

  • Builds upon Sovereign's Descent and draws its power from the Holy Dragon of Light 49.
  • Described as capable of breaking through anything, with power that continues to develop alongside the user's cultivation 49.
  • Requires the Holy Dragon of Light; Changqing instead adapted its principles into Dragon Emperor's Evil-Shattering Fist 49 50.

Dragon Emperor's Trembling Domain

  • Another technique derived from Sovereign's Descent, primarily focused on dispelling evil and countering evil Soul Masters 49.
  • Unlike Evil-Shattering Rift, it does not require Mu En's Martial Soul 49.
  • Together with his other supreme techniques, contributed to his fearsome reputation among evil Soul Masters 49.

Soul Power Control and Instruction

  • Moves objects remotely, transmits his voice privately, and uses light signals to summon Pavilion elders 4 5.
  • Examines meridians and bodily conditions through Soul Power and provides healing support 11 22 24.
  • Identified that Changqing's first tested punch expressed only twenty percent of his strength, rising to forty percent with his Soul Skill, and prescribed further training with Xuan Zi 11.
  • Transfers his accumulated insights and technique imprints directly into Changqing's mind 49.

Equipment / Items

  • Golden Ancient Tree cane — Supported his movement before treatment restored his ability to walk unaided 11 22.
  • Life Crystal / Gold of Life — A palm-sized, dark-green crystal supplied by Changqing; its concentrated life force partially healed his injuries and extended his lifespan 11 22 23.
  • Awakening stones — Used six stones to arrange Na'er's Martial Soul awakening formation 23.

  • Zhang Lexuan — Disciple who helps care for the twins. Mu En regards her as a future Pavilion elder but initially considers her too young to shoulder Shrek's leadership 1 4 5.
  • Yan Shaozhe — Disciple and Martial Soul Department dean. Mu En places Changqing under his theoretical instruction and overrules his resistance to Soul Tool development 5 11 49.
  • Xuan Zi — Senior colleague, Changqing's appointed strength trainer, and acting administrator during Mu En's seclusion. Mu En reprimands his drinking and inattentiveness 5 7 11.
