Types and Functions
Storage Soul Tools
Storage models hold personal belongings, currency, materials, and other Soul Tools 12 21 30 35.
- Mu Changqing’s ring: Gold, engraved with a dragon, and given to him by Zhang Lexuan 12.
- Na’er’s ring: Silver with a dragon engraving, also a gift from Zhang Lexuan 12.
- Field use: Mu Changqing carries his flying device inside his storage Soul Tool, while Qian Duoduo transports rare ores and manufacturing materials in his own 21 35.
Flying Soul Tools
Flying models provide powered aerial movement without requiring a flight-type Martial Soul ability 15.
- Fan Yu gives Mu Changqing a blue device that automatically attaches to his back 15.
- Mechanical struts unfold into large wings, and an energy burst propels the wearer into the air 15.
- The device is fast but consumes Soul Power rapidly 15.
- Flying Soul Tools also serve as surveillance platforms: they record Mu Changqing and Na’er’s dragon manifestations before Xuan Zi destroys the devices spying on Shrek 23 24.
Cultivation and Training Equipment
| Device | Function | Features or Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced cultivation room | Provides abundant heaven and earth primordial Qi for cultivation 14. | Expansion is restricted by scarce advanced materials and Shrek’s comparatively ineffective Qi-gathering formations. Existing construction relies on materials and a Class 8 formation specialist from the Sun Moon Empire 14. |
| Gravity Soul Tool | Applies different gravity levels to train a soul master’s body 22. | Includes automatic adjustment and life detection. Bei Bei proposes these systems to accommodate different physiques and prevent serious overtraining injuries 14 22. |
| Environment simulator | Recreates different environments for spiritual-power training 22. | Presented alongside gravity Soul Tools for academy-wide introduction 22. |
Combat Soul Tools
Combat models include ranged weapons, melee weapons, and defensive devices 44 46.
- Class 4 soul laser cannon: Made by Fan Yu for Bei Bei and tested against Mu Changqing during their mining-site spar 44.
- Class 4 saber: Also made for Bei Bei; Mu Changqing’s punch leaves cracks in its blade 44 45.
- Energy shield: Bei Bei uses a shield during the same spar, but Mu Changqing shatters it with a punch 44.
- Flight-and-artillery combination: Mu Changqing identifies Bei Bei’s flight-type second Soul Skill as a natural complement to ranged Soul Tools, calling him a potential mobile artillery platform 45.
Qian Duoduo’s Class 9 Models
| Model | Stated Performance | Ownership |
|---|---|---|
| Defensive Soul Tool | Withstands attacks from Titled Douluos below Rank 95 without damage. It folds into a defensive core at the press of a button 46. | Given to Bei Bei for protection 46. |
| Long-range attack Soul Tool | A full-power strike can kill a Soul Douluo; Qian Duoduo states that even a Titled Douluo would be left half-dead by a hit 46. | Completed by Qian Duoduo; no recipient is specified 46. |
These weapons are not universally decisive: Bei Bei’s Class 4 attacks fail to injure Mu Changqing through his enhanced defenses 44. The technology available in this period has also not yet reached the point of killing gods 47.
Transportation and Civilian Equipment
- Soul Tool cars: Use formations to convert injected Soul Power into electricity for propulsion. Mu En drives a four-seat model on the journey to Dragon City 51.
- Urban transport: Soul vehicles become common on Shrek City’s roads during its year of redevelopment 47.
- Commercial tools: Roadside stalls adopt Soul Tools to assist work previously performed entirely by hand 47.
- Academy furnishings: Shrek installs Soul Tool tables and chairs in its cafeteria and equips its rebuilt dormitories with Soul Tools 46.
- Building equipment: The Soul Tool Department uses soul-powered elevators 13.
- Communicators: Used by the Blacksmiths’ Guild receptionist and by Mask Douluo to contact allies 34 40.
Design and Manufacture
Soul Tool production involves blueprints, engraved formations, suitable materials, and assembled core components 13 35 46.
- Formation work: Students study diagrams and engrave arrays in Shrek’s research laboratories. Faulty inscriptions can prevent successful assembly 13 46.
- Material restrictions: A shortage of high-grade materials prevents Shrek from producing many advanced models and delays Qian Duoduo’s Class 9 attempt 29 35 36.
- Forging alternative: Mu Changqing proposes refining lower-grade metals through forging. Qian Duoduo produces initial samples, although their purity is inadequate 29.
- Blacksmith collaboration: Shrek recruits the Blacksmiths’ Guild to develop materials, manufacture components, and teach blacksmithing within the Soul Tool Department 34 35.
- Precision components: Lou Li’s forging makes the Class 9 components more precise and better suited for assembly 46.
- Supply preparation: Qian Duoduo sends Fan Yu to purchase common and uncommon ores in the Sun Moon Empire before wider knowledge of forging raises demand 47.
- Additional resources: Mu Changqing negotiates a share of future Soul Tools for the Earth Dragon Sect in exchange for access to its mineral vein. He and Mu En subsequently discover Ice Extreme Divine Crystal there 58 61.
History and Adoption
Sun Moon Empire’s Lead
The arrival of Soul Tools undermined traditional blacksmithing. The Blacksmiths’ Guild dwindled to roughly one percent of its former size, while declining military demand for iron armor further reduced its business 34.
By Mu En’s visit, the Sun Moon Empire possessed technology capable of challenging a Limit Douluo 5. It was also the only empire described as having made Soul Tool cars widely available throughout its population; Dragon City’s guards initially associate Mu En’s vehicle with that empire 51.
Shrek’s Reforms
Mu En makes Soul Tool development a strategic priority and assigns Bei Bei to study under Qian Duoduo and Xian Lin’er 5. Shrek triples the Soul Tool Department’s cultivation resources and permits interested Martial Soul Department students with weaker cultivation talent to transfer 13.
Training devices help extend the technology beyond weaponry. Yan Shaozhe agrees to exchange departmental resources for two additional gravity Soul Tools after being offered only three for his students 22. Later reforms give the two departments equal space, modernize academy facilities, and introduce Soul Tools throughout Shrek City 46 47 48.
Resistance and Changing Attitudes
Many Martial Soul Department students initially dismiss Soul Tools as shortcuts, believing personal strength to be the true foundation of cultivation 13. Dragon City’s sects similarly regard them as external aids and invaders’ weapons; Yu Tianlin worries that dependence on them could encourage neglect of cultivation 51 54.
Mu En counters these views with the Sun Moon Empire’s military advances and Shrek’s reforms 54. Xuan Zi, initially shocked by the technology’s power, later embraces the improvements Soul Tools bring to daily life 5 54.
Prospective Uses
- Soul Beast adoption: Both Mu Changqing and Na’er consider whether Soul Beasts could use Soul Tools. Na’er’s interest contributes to her desire to study the technology, but no working Soul Beast application is demonstrated 42 47 51.
- Spaceflight and god-killing weapons: Mu Changqing predicts these future capabilities while speaking with Na’er; they are not achievements of the devices currently shown 47 51.
