Background / History

Discovery and Life at Shrek

Na'er is discovered in a cave in Star Dou Great Forest, frightened, poorly clothed, and unable to remember her past. Although she struggles to answer Xuan Zi, she tells Mu Changqing her name and immediately clings to him. He recognizes her connection to the Silver Dragon King through his Golden Dragon King bloodline and offers to become her older brother. Before leaving, she retrieves a dark-green, life-rich crystal from her hiding place and gives it to him 9.

Outside the cave, Na'er reunites with the Mighty Vajra Bear that raised her. The bear accompanies the group to Shrek and receives the name Da Huang. Na'er settles into life on Sea God Island, staying close to Mu Changqing and Da Huang and receiving care from Elder Zhuang during Mu Changqing's training and journeys 10 12 13 16.

Her Silver Dragon King presence eventually provokes a dangerous reaction in Mu Changqing: his bloodline briefly overwhelms his will, and his transformed claw painfully grips her arm. Her cry brings him back to himself. When he subsequently enters seclusion, Na'er waits outside his cultivation room every day for two months 21 22.

Awakening and Divine Alliance

Mu En personally awakens Na'er's Martial Soul. The resulting Silver Dragon King manifestation attracts attention at Shrek and in Star Dou Great Forest, where Di Tian and Bi Ji recognize their lord's presence. Her awakening also triggers Mu Changqing's Golden Dragon King bloodline, and the two transform into enormous dragons facing one another above the Golden Ancient Tree 23.

Afterward, Na'er and Mu Changqing begin cultivating together. The God of Destruction and Goddess of Life draw them into Mu Changqing's Sea of Spirit and reveal that they have concealed the pair from Tang San's probing. Speaking through Na'er, her Silver Dragon King personality accepts their alliance after the God of Destruction promises a path for Soul Beasts to become gods. The Goddess of Life then takes residence in Na'er's Sea of Spirit 25 26.

Travels and Return to Shrek

During a visit to the White Tiger Duke's Mansion, Na'er discovers Dai Huabin and two companions bullying Huo Yuhao for the money intended to treat his mother. Remembering her own helpless circumstances before Mu Changqing found her, she intervenes. Her shout brings Mu Changqing and Dai Yaoheng to the scene, allowing Huo Yuhao to receive help 32 33.

Na'er later stays at the Blacksmiths' Guild in Gengxin City while Mu Changqing and Bei Bei train. After learning that Mu Changqing has survived an evil Soul Master ambush, she checks him for injuries and asks him to take her wherever he goes. Their subsequent joint cultivation brings her to Soul Elder 36 43.

On returning to Shrek, Na'er sees the city's expanding Soul Tool infrastructure and considers whether Soul Beasts could use the technology themselves. She asks to study Soul Tools, but Mu Changqing advises her to improve her Soul Power first. She later accompanies him, Mu En, and Bei Bei as they depart for Dragon City 47 50.

Appearance

• Hair and complexion: Long silvery-white hair and fair skin; she initially appears in a dirty, tattered white dress 9.
• Eyes: Originally deep black, changing to clear purple after her Martial Soul awakening. Her eyes also become silvery-white dragon eyes when her Silver Dragon King presence emerges 21 25.

Personality

Initially timid and disoriented, Na'er hides behind Mu Changqing around unfamiliar people and fears being separated from him. Her dependence is emotional as well as bloodline-related: before her awakening, she worries that he might no longer want her if her Martial Soul proves weak 11 15 21.

As she grows more confident, Na'er becomes affectionate, playful, and openly possessive. She remembers Mu Changqing's words for years, becomes jealous when she detects the Three-Eyed Golden Lion's scent on him, and teases him after escaping his attack through flight. Her concern for his safety remains persistent, particularly after learning about the evil Soul Master ambush 30 43 45.

Na'er wants both the resurgence of Soul Beasts and peaceful coexistence with humans. Seeing Da Huang accepted by Shrek's students strengthens that hope. She is troubled by the harm powerful Soul Tools could inflict on Soul Beasts, but also considers adapting the technology for their use 12 46 47.

Gu Yue

Gu Yue speaks with a mature woman's voice and a lofty, authoritative manner. Although her emergence begins during Na'er's Martial Soul awakening, the Silver Dragon King's consciousness is not yet fully awake afterward. She later takes control temporarily to question Mu Changqing about the Three-Eyed Golden Lion and urges him to protect her from Tang San's schemes. Na'er remains aware of that conversation and resumes control when Gu Yue falls asleep 23 25 26 43.
