Background / History
Qian Daoliu belongs to the Qian Family, whose ancestors include the Angel God and whose members traditionally awaken the Six-Winged Angel Martial Soul. The family holds the Angel God’s divine inheritance 20.
He had one son, former Pope Qian Xunji. His wife died before his grandson Qian Renxing was born. According to Sisi, he subsequently kept away from women; Qian Daoliu himself says that he devoted those years entirely to cultivation 2 11.
Bibi Dong poisoned Qian Xunji to death. Although Qian Daoliu knew what she had done, he ultimately remained silent in consideration of his son’s wrongdoing 23.
Before becoming involved in Qian Renxing’s public exploits, Qian Daoliu had withdrawn from worldly affairs and had not appeared publicly for decades. He nevertheless retained considerable authority within Spirit Hall and a reputation for punishing evil Soul Masters, prompting citizens to donate whale rubber when they mistakenly believed he needed treatment 11 12 24.
Appearance
- Apparent age: Looks approximately thirty or forty despite his advanced age 9.
- Build and features: Tall and handsome, with facial features resembling Qian Renxing’s 9.
- Clothing: Wears plain, solemn gray robes when first encountered before Douluo Hall’s sacred angel statue 9.
- Temporary disguise: Covers his face with a black hood after the whale-rubber rumor makes him reluctant to appear publicly 17.
Personality
Qian Daoliu is deeply protective of Qian Renxing, but his affection often takes the form of money, supervision, and attempts to prevent embarrassment. He repeatedly gives his grandson expensive black cards, teaches him cultivation, and dresses him when his public performances leave him naked 10 19 21 40.
His personal reputation, the Qian Family’s dignity, and Spirit Hall’s prestige matter intensely to him. The false rumor of his impotence reduces him to tears, while the prospect of a billion copies of Qian Renxing’s embarrassing painting drives him to convene an elders’ council. Even so, after losing the vote, he decides that his grandson matters more than those reputations and publicly endorses the resolution 15 23 28.
He distrusts flattery and insists that Qian Renxing learn to distinguish honest criticism from pleasing words. He secures Yan’s release because he believes the young man can provide candid advice, only to become exasperated when Yan joins the Holy Son’s devotees 29 31.
Qian Daoliu is calculating and willing to use intimidation: he counts council votes in advance, threatens Mighty Lion Douluo into supporting him, and physically punishes him for encouraging Qian Renxing’s antics. His certainty repeatedly gives way to bewilderment when the people he dismisses as foolish gain genuine cultivation breakthroughs 24 25 28 42.
Abilities & Skills
Level 99 Cultivation
A Level 99 Peerless Douluo, Qian Daoliu has few rivals in combat and commands enough strength to make Bibi Dong wary of a direct confrontation 25 28 38.
- Sends Mighty Lion Douluo flying with a punch or kick 22 30 42.
- Intimidates Mighty Lion Douluo by invoking the strength that established his position as the enshrined elders’ elder brother 25.
- Can nevertheless be restrained by the combined efforts of the six Enshrined during Qian Renxing’s public demonstrations 32 33.
Soul-Power Flight
Qian Daoliu supports his body with Soul Power to fly, carrying Qian Renxing with him 10.
- Flies his grandson directly to the Spirit Hall Chamber of Commerce 10.
- Removes him from a fanatical crowd and returns him to the Holy Son Palace by air 20.
Cultivation Instruction
Qian Daoliu teaches Qian Renxing how to cultivate Soul Power and refine Soul Rings, and later takes him to the Star Dou Great Forest to obtain his first ring 21 43.
- Explains the relationship between Soul Power ranks and successive Soul Rings 20.
- Recommends a four-hundred-year soul beast for Qian Renxing’s first ring rather than risking a thousand-year ring 43.
- Grounds his caution in limits established through the deaths and injuries of earlier Spirit Hall Soul Masters 43.
Knowledge of Godhood
Qian Daoliu understands both faith-based ascension and divine inheritance 20.
- Advises cultivating to rank ninety-nine and obtaining nine Soul Rings before pursuing godhood 20.
- Explains that the Angel God accumulated faith for a thousand years 20.
- Identifies Qian Renxing’s tricycle Martial Soul as disqualifying him from the Angel God’s inheritance 20.
- Points to Slaughter City and Sea God Island as possible sources of other divine inheritances 20.
Authority & Resources
| Position or resource | Scope and limitations |
|---|---|
| Master of the Elder Hall | Can convene an elders’ council and preside over its decisions 23 25. |
| Council voting power | Holds three votes, equal to the Pope; each elder and Enshrined holds one 25. |
| Enshrined faction | The six Enshrined acknowledge him as their elder brother, though their devotion to Qian Renxing eventually overrides his demands 24 26. |
| Access to the Pope’s Palace | Must be announced and receive permission to enter, unlike Qian Renxing, whose entry requires no announcement 22. |
| Personal wealth | Treats five million Gold Soul Coins as an insignificant sum and repeatedly uses that amount to reward or persuade his grandson 10 19 22. |
Equipment / Items
- Space Soul Tool — Stores personal possessions, including the black card he first gives Qian Renxing 10.
- Spirit Hall Chamber of Commerce black cards — Provides cards with five-million-Gold-Soul-Coin limits as pocket money and inducements for good behavior 10 15 19.
- Donated whale rubber — Receives pieces from Golden Crocodile Douluo, Azure Luan Douluo, and Mighty Lion Douluo because of the false impotence rumor; he insists he has no need for them 15.
Relationships
- Qian Renxing — Biological grandson and cultivation pupil. Qian Daoliu promises him his entire inheritance after learning that fear of a younger uncle or aunt helped motivate his behavior 2 17 21.
- Qian Xunji — His only son and Spirit Hall’s former Pope. Qian Daoliu accepts his death without retaliation because of the wrongs he committed 2 23.

- Golden Crocodile Douluo and Azure Luan Douluo — Address him as their elder brother and bring whale rubber out of concern for his supposed condition 15.
- Xie Yue — Qian Renxing’s chronicler and painter. Qian Daoliu repeatedly demands that he remove explicit references to the impotence rumor from the Holy Chronicle 21 33.
- Yan — Released from prison through Qian Daoliu’s intervention. Disappoints his benefactor by interpreting accidental tricycle collisions as divine instruction 29 31.
- Su Yuntao — Qian Renxing’s guard, whose reverence for excrement and toilet-shaped decorations provokes Qian Daoliu’s disgust 34 42.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Whale-Rubber Rumor
Qian Renxing initially refuses to recognize Qian Daoliu as his grandfather. Qian Daoliu gives him a black card and takes him to the Chamber of Commerce, where an employee confirms his identity. His grandson then orders whale rubber from across the continent under Qian Daoliu’s name 9 10.
Remarks about Qian Daoliu’s ability to have children are misinterpreted as evidence of impotence. The rumor spreads throughout Spirit City within half a day, bringing donations from citizens and fellow Enshrined. Qian Daoliu asks his grandson to clear his name, but Qian Renxing’s solution is to strip and plunge into boiling whale rubber, creating an even larger spectacle 11 15 17 18.
Sacred Painting Council
When Qian Renxing seeks worldwide distribution of a painting commemorating the incident, Qian Daoliu pursues him to the Pope’s Palace. Bibi Dong increases the proposed print run to one billion copies, leading Qian Daoliu to invoke an elders’ council 22 23.
His expected nine-to-eight majority collapses as Mighty Lion Douluo and the other council members embrace the painting and gain insights. Qian Daoliu then argues that such a valuable relic should remain exclusively within Spirit Hall, but fails to stop the proposal 24 25 26 27.
Bibi Dong declares a fourteen-to-three result. Qian Daoliu insists on announcing it himself, adds his support, and proclaims unanimous passage with seventeen votes 28.
Dispute over the Divine Name
Qian Daoliu’s attempt to explain divine titles backfires when Qian Renxing adopts his example, the God of Shit and Piss. He spends the ensuing demonstrations promoting the Tricycle God instead, challenging the supposed holiness of toilet use, sculptures, paintings, and recorded sayings 30 33 36 37 38.
Qian Renxing’s toilet hymn wins Spirit City’s support. By its conclusion, Qian Daoliu is apparently the city’s only remaining advocate of the Tricycle God, though he continues rejecting the rival title afterward 40 42.
First Soul-Ring Hunt
Qian Daoliu eventually takes Qian Renxing out of Spirit City to the Star Dou Great Forest. He urges a safe, four-hundred-year first Soul Ring, but his grandson insists on proving that he can refine a thousand-year ring instead 43.
