Power Progression
The Soul Power ranks below belong to Li Jin, the Martial Soul’s bearer.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Awakening — innate full Soul Power | 1 | Awakened by Su Yuntao. Li Jin initially possesses only the Koi Martial Soul, despite Yu Xiaogang’s later claim that his talent must indicate twin Martial Souls. 4 |
| First Soul Ring — million-year | 14 15 | Obtained from the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm. The Koi forces his sham sacrifice to continue, securing ten masses of spiritual origin and allowing Li Jin to select four spiritual skills. |
| One-ring Soul Master — rank 13 | 17 18 | Confirmed during Spirit Hall registration. His first ring is platinum, although observers mistake it for an ordinary white ring. |
| Rank 15 | 26 | Rises from rank 13 through energy released by the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s husk after consuming ten-thousand-year whale glue. |
| Rank 20 — second-ring bottleneck | 34 | Remains formally at rank 20 without a second ring. After absorbing the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone, Li Jin estimates his accumulated power is equivalent to rank 30; this is not a confirmed breakthrough. |
| First Soul Skill enhancement | 36 | Absorption of additional spiritual origin doubles the area of his Sea of Consciousness and produces a qualitative improvement in his first Soul Skill. |
| Second Soul Ring — five-thousand-year | 38 39 | Absorbed from an Ice Silkworm in four hours, adding a purple ring alongside the platinum first ring. Li Jin is subsequently identified as a Soul Grandmaster. |
Appearance
- Manifested form: An exquisitely beautiful carp whose nine colors shift and flow as it swims. It can swim out of Li Jin’s forehead and circle him when summoned. 14 17
- Spiritual manifestation: Moves freely within Li Jin’s Sea of Consciousness, where it maintains a close connection with him. 14
- First Soul Ring: Platinum rather than ordinary white; its pale appearance conceals its million-year origin from observers. 17
- Second Soul Ring: Purple, reflecting the five-thousand-year Ice Silkworm from which it was obtained. 38
Background / History
Su Yuntao awakened the Nine-Colored Koi and judged it a flashy but useless Martial Soul because koi were ornamental fish without apparent fighting abilities. Nevertheless, Li Jin’s innate full Soul Power made him a prospective Soul Master. That potential helped persuade Nuoding City’s lord to protect Red Carp Village’s gold-mining operation rather than seize it outright. 1
Li Jin publicly chose the support route and initially declined to fight other students. Yu Xiaogang later insisted that a Koi Martial Soul could not explain innate full Soul Power and therefore claimed Li Jin must possess twin Martial Souls. Li Jin denied this, stating that only the Koi had awakened and attributing his talent to its good fortune. His ice-element second Martial Soul embryo developed later, following the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s sacrifice. 1 4 15
Abilities & Skills
Fortune Consumption
The Nine-Colored Koi feeds on fortune, and consuming it accelerates the Martial Soul’s growth. It does not devour another person’s fortune without cause, but accepts fortune carrying malice toward Li Jin. 17
- Hostility-triggered feeding: Visibly opens and closes its mouth while consuming the invisible fortune associated with Yu Xiaogang and Tang San’s ridicule. 17
- Misfortune for aggressors: Li Jin attributes their subsequent troubles to the Koi having eaten their luck. 20
- Transfer of opportunities: After Tang San loses fortune, possessions and opportunities originally associated with him begin passing to Li Jin. One example is Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges, which Li Jin purchases after Tang San surrenders it as compensation for damage to a smithy. 24
- Good fortune: Li Jin credits the Koi with his innate talent and his encounter with the million-year Sky Dream Ice Silkworm. These explanations are presented as his own assessment. 4 14
Retaliation Against Killing Intent
Malice can trigger the Koi’s response before an enemy physically attacks Li Jin. Its effects can exploit an aggressor’s existing bodily weaknesses. 2 8 35
- Tang Hao: His killing intent creates a faint connection to Li Jin, followed by a brief nine-colored gleam in Li Jin’s eyes. Tang Hao’s suppressed injuries then erupt; renewed threats later cause his Soul Power to run wild again. 2 8
- Dugu Bo: His poison flares during his confrontation with Li Jin, leaving him convulsing. Li Jin explicitly recognizes this as another activation of the Koi. 35
- Ice Empress: Li Jin quickly redirects her attention toward saving the Snow Empress because he wants to prevent her from developing killing intent and suffering fortune-devouring backlash. 39
Spiritual Suppression and Sacrifice Control
Within Li Jin’s Sea of Consciousness, the Koi overpowers the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm despite his million-year cultivation. 14 15
- Forcing a sacrifice to continue: Prevents the silkworm from stopping his supposed sacrifice, stripping away both his fortune and spiritual origin. 14
- Securing spiritual origin: Takes control of ten sunlike masses of origin and repeatedly knocks the silkworm away when he attempts to recover them. 14
- Memory access: Li Jin unites his mind with the Koi, suppresses the silkworm with its tail, and reads his memories. 15
- Soul ignition: When the silkworm attempts to reclaim his origin during the Snow Empress’s crisis, the Koi sets his soul ablaze. His resulting sacrifice forms the bridge carrying the Snow Empress’s power into Li Jin’s ice-element Martial Soul. 39
First Soul Ring: Spiritual Skills
Li Jin selects four skills from the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s million-year ring. These are ring-granted abilities rather than innate elemental attributes of the Koi. 14 25
| Skill | Documented Function and Applications |
|---|---|
| Spiritual Detection | Scans Tang San’s body and Soul Power circulation, allowing Li Jin to decipher several Tang Sect techniques during combat. 27 28 |
| Spiritual Sharing | Combined with detection as Spiritual Detection Sharing, gives Xiao Wu a full 360-degree view without blind spots and helps her anticipate attacks. 27 28 |
| Spiritual Telekinesis | Materializes spiritual power to manipulate objects. Li Jin retrieves a coin from between floorboards and handles heated whale rubber without direct contact. 18 25 |
| Spiritual Bestowal | Temporarily grants lifeless matter life and controls it as an extension of Li Jin’s mind. It can animate earth, fire, water, and wind into fighting spirits. 14 25 |
- Detection limits: During the fight with Tang San, Li Jin copies several actively used techniques, but not the hidden-weapon techniques or medicinal and poison records of the Hundred Solutions of Hidden Weapon. 28
- Bestowal limits: The animation is temporary. When Li Jin withdraws the skill, his Flame Spirit returns to ordinary fire. 25
- Growth: Increased spiritual power substantially improves the effectiveness of the first Soul Skill. 36
Second Soul Ring: Simulation
- Li Jin chooses a five-thousand-year Ice Silkworm partly for its practical Simulation skill. 38
- He intends to use it to conceal Xiao Wu’s Soul Beast presence; this is his stated purpose rather than a demonstrated application in the supplied chapters. 38
Cultivation Resources and Potential
- Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s husk: Stores the beast’s million years of cultivation inside Li Jin’s dantian. Its energy steadily strengthens his body and raises his Soul Power, including while he sleeps. 15 21
- Spiritual origin: Nourishes and expands Li Jin’s Sea of Consciousness. Li Jin expects complete absorption to give his soul form and substance comparable to a divine soul; this remains a projected outcome. 14 15
- Future Soul Ring enhancement: Li Jin states that the stored origin power can eventually raise all nine of the Koi’s Soul Rings to the hundred-thousand-year level. The supplied chapters do not show that full upgrade being achieved. 15
- Separate second Martial Soul: The soulless ice-element embryo and its later fusion with the Snow Empress are distinct from the Nine-Colored Koi, not an evolution of it. 15 39
