Background / History
Guardian of the Far North
The Snow Empress was born from the Far North itself. She had raised the Ice Empress from a little scorpion and regarded her as the best successor to protect their homeland. Facing her own death, she judged Xiao Bai and A-Tai insufficient substitutes for the Ice Empress 38 39.
Before meeting her, Li Jin identified the Snow Empress and Ice Empress as candidates to complete his embryonic ice-element Second Martial Soul. He later chose to pursue them and the Ice God’s inheritance rather than the Ice Dragon King’s soul beneath the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 15 36.
Failed Dual Cores and Reincarnation
Finding a hundred-thousand-year snow lotus gave the Snow Empress a safeguard against failure: its life force could grant her another opportunity to cultivate as a human. Encouraged by a mysterious whisper, she summoned the Ice Empress to guard her and attempted to condense a space soul core. It clashed with her existing Ultimate Ice Soul Core, severely injuring her and triggering avalanches around the mountain 38.
She consumed the lotus and began human recultivation instead, hoping to escape the restrictions that made a Soul Beast’s path to godhood so difficult. However, the sentient lotus resented losing its own opportunity to take human form. Its revolt broke her ice cocoon, leaving her unable to stop her cultivation from draining away. She ordered the Ice Empress to absorb the escaping power and survive her fourth heavenly tribulation, but the Ice Empress refused 38 39.
Fusion with Li Jin
Li Jin entered the cavern and proposed saving her by making her his Second Martial Soul. The Snow Empress sensed his extraordinary power of luck and heard the whispers again, this time as though the Far North were urging her to agree. Proud but out of alternatives, she challenged him to withstand her cultivation 39.
Her power initially overwhelmed his body. The fusion became viable when the Nine-Colored Koi ignited the rebellious Sky Dream Ice Silkworm’s soul, creating a bridge between her power and Li Jin’s embryonic Martial Soul. Convinced that following Li Jin might truly offer a path to godhood, she willingly merged her soul and origin into him 39 40.
Snow Maiden and Departure
The completed Martial Soul manifested as a child with no memories, while the Snow Empress’s original consciousness slept. Li Jin named this manifestation Snow Maiden, explicitly distinguishing her awareness from the Snow Empress’s. After the Ice God’s Pearl resonated with her, he decided to postpone seeking the divine seat until he became a Titled Douluo and the original consciousness awakened 40.
Snow Maiden freed the Ice Empress from her frozen prison. Unable to bear separation, the Ice Empress accompanied them out of the Far North. In Condensing Frost City, Snow Maiden helped mine Ice Extreme Divine Crystal, protected Li Jin during a descent through a freezing spring, and collected forty-two Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice Marrow crystals before the group departed 41 42 43.
Appearance
The original Snow Empress has a mature, striking figure and a cold, proud bearing. During her interrupted transformation and subsequent fusion, she shifts between this adult appearance and an embryonic form 38 40.
- Snow Maiden’s apparent age: Approximately three years old 40.
- Clothing: A little blue outfit 40.
- Skin and eyes: Flawless, jade-white skin and large ice-blue eyes 40.
- Hair: Long and silky 43.
- Divine mark: A snowflake appears on her forehead after resonance with the Ice God’s Pearl 40.
- Manifestation: Can float outside Li Jin’s body; feels almost weightless when held 40 42.
Personality
The original Snow Empress is proud, decisive, and accustomed to authority. Even while dying, she gives firm orders and prioritizes securing a guardian for the Far North. Her affection for the Ice Empress is evident in both her gratitude for the scorpion’s loyalty and her frustration when that loyalty prevents her from accepting the escaping cultivation 38 39.
She is also pragmatic about survival. After failing to form dual cores, she immediately attempts human recultivation; when that fails, she accepts Li Jin’s proposal despite doubting his ability to endure her power 38 39.
Snow Maiden is innocent, affectionate, and dependent on Li Jin rather than an expression of the original Snow Empress’s mature personality. She initially calls him “Daddy,” obeys his instructions readily, and seeks praise after completing tasks. She also shows a playful streak, teasing the Ice Empress after collecting most of the profound ice marrow 40 42 43.
Abilities & Skills
Ultimate Ice
Her Ultimate Ice is stronger than the Ice Empress’s, to the point that the latter cannot melt the ice imprisoning her 41.
- Her escaping cultivation creates a blizzard capable of freezing an ordinary Titled Douluo 39.
- Snow Maiden melts the Ice Empress’s prison with a touch 41.
- She spreads Ultimate Ice through a cavern-wide blizzard to loosen otherwise unmineable Ice Extreme Divine Crystal 42.
God-Level Martial Soul
Her soul and origin fuse perfectly with the high-quality ice Martial Soul embryo supplied by the Sky Dream Ice Silkworm, producing a God-Level Martial Soul 40.
- Grants Li Jin three special orange-gold Soul Rings 40.
- Uses her origin during fusion to transform his entire body into a mysterious jade physique 40.
- Manifests independently as Snow Maiden while Li Jin can still summon his Koi Martial Soul 41.
- Remains at a first-awakening state because Li Jin’s Soul Power cannot yet support her full God-Level quality; a Second Awakening requires a future opportunity 40.
Ultimate Ice Soul Core and Independent Cultivation
The fusion places an Ultimate Ice Soul Core in Li Jin’s dantian rather than providing a Soul Bone 40.
- Draws in and refines his Soul Power, increasing both its quality and reserves 40.
- Stabilizes the Martial Soul’s output without requiring deliberate maintenance from Li Jin 41.
- Allows Snow Maiden to cultivate independently outside his body. Li Jin identifies this as a way to double his cultivation speed and offset the slow cultivation associated with an Ultimate Attribute 43.
Perception of Luck
As a spirit formed from the Far North’s gathered luck, the Snow Empress can perceive Li Jin’s exceptional fortune 39.
- Recognizes that his power of luck can disregard ordinary rules 39.
- Interprets the renewed whispers as possible encouragement from the Far North itself; their source is not definitively established 38 39.
Equipment / Items
- Ice God’s Pearl — Given to Snow Maiden by Li Jin. It resonates with her origin, gradually feeds the Ice God’s power into her, and creates her snowflake forehead mark 40.
- Ten-Thousand-Year Profound Ice Marrow — Snow Maiden collects forty-two crystals through the pearl, securing more than ninety percent of the deposit found by the group. Her inherited instincts recognize their value despite her undeveloped awareness 43.
Relationships
- Li Jin — Saves her through fusion and becomes the bearer of her Martial Soul. Snow Maiden feels instinctive filial affection toward him; he persuades her to use “Big Brother” instead of “Daddy” by offering the Ice God’s Pearl 39 40.
- Ice Empress / Bingbing — A devoted companion whom the Snow Empress raised and hoped would succeed her as guardian of the Far North. She refuses to profit from the Snow Empress’s impending death and later follows Li Jin to protect her 39 41.
- Sky Dream Ice Silkworm / Tian Meng — Supplies the original ice Martial Soul embryo. His soul is forcibly burned to bridge the fusion, enabling the Snow Empress’s survival and perfect integration with Li Jin 15 39 40.
- Xiao Bai and A-Tai — Considered as possible overseers of the Far North, but the Snow Empress judges both inferior to the Ice Empress for that responsibility 39.
Notable Quotes
“Ice Empress, I'm going to die. From now on, you'll have to protect the Far North. Stop crying and hurry up and absorb the cultivation leaking out of me.” 38
“Hah! Then give it a try. If you can withstand this Empress's cultivation, we can discuss taking this Empress to godhood afterward!” 39
