• Fox-types are among the most intelligent Soul Beasts. The Polar Ice Fox retreats after a failed ambush, steals bait, and contests Xu Zhengyang through several days of traps and sneak attacks 16 17.
• Insect and reptilian beasts hide in the Star Dou Great Forest’s undergrowth and launch sudden, powerful attacks 45.
• Sunset Bees attack in large numbers and can reach victims hiding in dens or underground 23.

Rivalry and Self-Preservation

Top-tier Soul Beasts possess enough intelligence to avoid unnecessary fatal battles. Similarly matched tiger- and bear-types usually exchange probing attacks before withdrawing, since severe injuries could leave them vulnerable to other predators 45.

• The White-Eyed Devil Tiger preys on other Soul Beasts and dominates its section of Sunset Forest without nearby beasts challenging it 20.
• The mother Nether Flame Demon Tiger attempts to retrieve her cub and escape when disadvantaged. Finding the den empty drives her back into a desperate attack 46.
• Frenzied beasts can lose tactical focus. Xu Zhengyang exploits this by netting two fighting beasts that continue attacking each other instead of immediately coordinating an escape 47.

The Nether Flame Demon Tiger Cub

Xu Zhengyang takes an injured newborn cub while its mother fights the Darkgolden Terrorclaw Bear, provoking the mother into renewed combat. He subsequently kills both adult beasts to obtain cultivation resources 46 48.

Unable to bring himself to kill the cub, he treats its wounds and searches for a nursing tigress. He ultimately leaves it near the Three-Eyed Golden Lion, believing the powerful beast can heal it and support its growth. The lion is puzzled that a human would abandon such a valuable cub rather than exploit it 50.
