Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Incomplete awakening | 2 | Appears as a massive, rusted iron rod. Xu Zhengyang identifies its underlying spear form through its shape and fierce yang aura. Its initial weight is later recalled as approximately five hundred jin 23. |
| First Soul Ring — Ironclad Explosive Flame Tiger | 10 11 | Absorbs a yellow ring over six hundred years old, bringing Xu Zhengyang to rank fourteen. The shaft darkens, the spearhead develops a faint golden sheen, and Explosive Flame Shattering Spear allows it to fight with a true spear’s characteristics. |
| First year of forging | 15 | Daily tempering transforms the rod into a three-meter spear with an approximately eight-centimeter-wide shaft. Surface rust turns to ash and appears to merge into the Martial Soul, but the rudimentary golden spearhead remains blunt. |
| Second Soul Ring — White-Eyed Devil Tiger | 22 23 | Absorbs an eleven-hundred-year purple ring and gains Devil Tiger Destruction Kill. Xu Zhengyang reaches rank twenty-three; the spear exceeds one thousand jin, and its head transitions from black to dark gold. |
| Renewed refinement in Gengxin City | 36 37 | Repeated eighty-one-strike hammer sequences compact the shaft and make the spearhead more distinct. The black shaft begins developing a metallic gleam. |
| Shaft refinement after a year | 39 40 | The shaft narrows to approximately seven centimeters and develops a faint red glow. Xu Zhengyang’s spiritual communication with the spear also strengthens their bond. |
| Tiger-head spearhead formed | 40 41 | With Lou Li’s assistance and Vajra Chisel, Xu Zhengyang finally shapes the resistant spearhead. It begins absorbing his blood and reveals roughly seventy percent of its original appearance, though its blade remains unsharpened. |
| Heavenly-lightning alteration | 43 44 | Gold of Life briefly merges into the spear during the lightning strike, alongside a weakened black phantom and another unidentified presence. Afterward, the Gold of Life remains separate, while ancient black patterns and an unexplained power appear on the spear. |
| Third Soul Ring — Nether Flame Demon Tiger | 48 49 | Absorbs a six-thousand-year purple ring and gains Nether Tiger Space-Rending Spear. Its heat and tiger-head presence intensify, and Xu Zhengyang senses something struggling against confinement inside its head. After also absorbing the Darkgolden Terrorclaw Bear External Soul Bone, he reaches rank thirty-three. |
Appearance
- Shaft: Originally resembles a pitch-black iron rod over three meters long. Refinement gradually compacts it and produces a metallic gleam followed by a faint crimson glow 12 37 40.
- Spearhead: Its developed form is a black-and-gold tiger’s head with open jaws surrounding the blade 40 41.
- Blade: The pointed blade alone exceeds one foot in length, but still lacks a sharpened edge 41.
- Later markings: Ancient-looking black patterns appear after the heavenly-lightning incident; Xu Zhengyang recognizes their resemblance to those on the Soul Devouring Carving Knife 44.
- Presence: The tiger head projects an intimidating king-of-beasts aura. Its scorching heat becomes stronger after the third Soul Ring 41 48.
Abilities & Skills
Explosive Flame Shattering Spear
The first Soul Skill supplies the incomplete Martial Soul with the characteristics needed to attack as a real spear rather than merely bludgeon through strength 11.
- Increases attack power by 100% and instantly doubles Xu Zhengyang’s strength 11.
- Adds flame explosions and burning damage; its duration depends on available Soul Power 11.
- Shatters an Ice Silkworm Soul Master’s saber and drives through his armor during Xu Zhengyang’s first arena victory 12.
- Can generate enough flame to ignite prepared material: Xu Zhengyang uses the heated spear tip to set his White-Eyed Devil Tiger trap ablaze 21.
Devil Tiger Destruction Kill
The second Soul Skill transforms the spear’s shaft into the phantom of a White-Eyed Devil Tiger for a powerful single-target attack 23.
- Releases tiger-roar pressure to suppress the opponent and can dispel illusions 23.
- Reduces the opponent’s combat strength and defense by 20%, while increasing Xu Zhengyang’s attack by 200% 23.
- Blinds one eye of the Darkgolden Terrorclaw Bear during the battle against it and the Nether Flame Demon Tiger 47.
Nether Tiger Space-Rending Spear
The third Soul Skill combines spatial traversal with an enhanced spear strike, allowing Xu Zhengyang to tear through space and appear before an enemy 49.
- Increases the spear’s attack power by 200% and coats it in deep-blue flames 49.
- Has a current attack range of thirty meters 49.
- Has no time limit, but each use consumes 20% of his Soul Power 49.
- Its range can increase, and its consumption can decrease, as his physical strength and Soul Power improve 49.
Sealed Tiger Soul
Xu Zhengyang concludes that the spear contains a fierce tiger’s soul, comparable to the dragon soul within the Coiling Dragon Staff 19.
- Resonates with the White-Eyed Devil Tiger’s roar, guiding him toward a compatible Soul Beast 19.
- Lou Li detects sealed power in the spearhead during his examination 38.
- After the third ring, Xu Zhengyang senses a cage-like confinement inside the tiger head and something powerful attempting to escape 48.
- He deduces, rather than demonstrates, that releasing the tiger soul will require at least the Soul Sage realm and Martial Soul True Body 19.
Martial Soul–Body Connection
The spear can be summoned at will and functions like part of Xu Zhengyang’s body, making it much easier for him to swing than a similarly heavy physical weapon 4.
- Heating and hammering the Martial Soul transmit heat and impact into his body 15 36.
- Repeated forging helps temper his physique, expel impurities, and clear obstructed meridians 15 36.
- After an exhausting forging session followed by a medicinal bath, his meditation speed rises by at least 20% above normal 36.
- Xu Zhengyang attributes his developing pure Yang physique to the combination of three tiger-type Soul Rings, beyond-limit absorption, and years of tempering; this remains his interpretation of the transformation 48.
History
Identification and Cultivation Plan
Xu Zhengyang recognizes the rusted rod as an incompletely awakened Tiger-Head Zhan Gold Spear and chooses Ji Juechen’s painstaking cultivation and weapon-refinement path as his model. Believing his low Innate Soul Power prevented a complete awakening, he deliberately seeks tiger-type Soul Rings to strengthen the Martial Soul’s tough, yang attributes and provoke a second awakening 2 7.
His first Soul Skill confirms the spear-based direction of his cultivation. Xu Haoyang subsequently insists that he learn Soul Engineering, partly because forging might help him understand and evolve the unusual metal Martial Soul 11 13.
Reforging in Gengxin City
Xu Yuanxuan identifies the spear’s rare metals and proposes relentless forging and the addition of rare materials as possible routes to evolution. Xu Zhengyang commits to making it both the strongest Martial Soul and the strongest Soul Tool, beginning his forging education under Xu Haoyang 14.
He later establishes the Zhengyang Blacksmith Shop in Gengxin City, where its five workers primarily maintain the furnace and bellows for his daily Martial Soul refinement. Lou Li initially warns him of the danger, then examines the spear and advises continued, gradual refinement. After a year, Lou Li personally assists the final spearhead-shaping effort by supplying his Vajra Chisel and strengthening the furnace fire 36 37 38 40.
Gold of Life and the Transferred Curse
Seeking a material capable of overcoming the spear’s limitations, Xu Zhengyang purchases the Soul Devouring Carving Knife for two hundred thousand gold soul coins, intending to extract its Gold of Life and eventually create a Life-Bound Soul Tool 31 34.
At Azure Thunder Mountain, he uses heavenly lightning to melt the knife and places the spear beneath the molten Gold of Life. The knife’s weakened black phantom enters the Martial Soul, followed by another unidentified presence. Upon recovering, he finds the Gold of Life separate from him and concludes that the knife’s curse has transferred to his spear. Why it has not killed him remains unexplained 43 44.
Refinement Limits and Potential
- Impure construction: Lou Li identifies excessive impurities and crude forging despite the exceptional quality of the underlying metals 38 40.
- Resistant spearhead: Extraterrestrial Meteoric Copper is substantially harder for Xu Zhengyang to refine than the shaft’s Yang Flame Iron 40.
- Risk to the wielder: Uncontrolled heat or excessive forging force can injure his body, sever his meridians, or destroy the Martial Soul. His physique cannot withstand Soul Sage-level hammering during Lou Li’s assessment 14 37 38.
- Unfinished cutting edge: Even after the third ring, its unsharpened state leaves the Darkgolden Terrorclaw as Xu Zhengyang’s strongest weapon against enemies at that stage 49.
- Projected complete form: Xu Zhengyang expects a pale-red shaft, crimson spearhead, sharp blade, and suppression comparable to top-tier Tool Martial Souls. Its anticipated ability to restrain evil and cold through ultimate yang is not yet demonstrated 37.
- Long-term ambition: Transformation into a Life-Bound Soul Tool or divine artifact is a goal, not an attained classification 31 41.
Physical Training Spears
Xu Zhengyang also commissions ordinary weapons called Tiger-Head Zhan Gold Spears. These are separate from his summonable Martial Soul and impose a much greater physical burden during training 4.
| Training Weapon | Use |
|---|---|
| Spear weighing over two hundred jin | Used for basic thrust practice in the family’s backyard training ground 4. |
| Spear over three meters long and weighing nearly five hundred jin | Specially commissioned for training; Xu Haoyang bends it with a palm strike during their sparring match 7. |
