Background / History
Spirit Hall and Earlier Battles
Qian Daoliu founded Spirit Hall from its predecessor, Douluo Hall, the sacred organization established by the first Angel God. He served as Supreme Pontiff two generations before Bibi Dong and later became the Worship Hall’s Great Enshrined 24.
During his earlier career, he lost to Tang Chen, whose Great Sumeru Hammer left a lasting impression on him. Their agreement prohibited Qian Daoliu from using his Angel Divine Power; he believed that without this restriction, he would not have lost. He also easily defeated the rank-98 swordsman Chen Jianjun despite the latter’s mastery of the Seven Kill Sword 25 27 44.
Qian Xunji’s Death
Two months before Luo Chen’s awakening, Qian Daoliu emerged from seclusion following his son Qian Xunji’s death. He confronted the Clear Sky Sect and forced it to seal its mountain and withdraw from the world 2.
He nevertheless knew that Bibi Dong, rather than Tang Hao, had actually killed Qian Xunji. He spared her because Qian Renxue had already lost her father and he did not want her to lose her mother as well. He also regarded granting Bibi Dong the papal position as compensation for the Qian Family’s wrongs against her. His restraint toward Tang Hao additionally reflected his concern over the Asura divine power he sensed on him 2 24.
Encounter with Luo Chen
Qian Daoliu initially dismissed the unusual awakening case in Nuoding City, concentrating instead on Qian Renxue. When Luo Chen’s awakening darkened the sky, he sensed immense divine power, ordered the elders to reassure Spirit City’s residents, and comforted his frightened granddaughter 2 5.
Rumors that Luo Chen was Bibi Dong’s illegitimate son eventually brought him to her residence. He recognized the boy’s intelligence and divine power, regretted not investigating Nuoding City personally, and expressed interest in his Martial Soul. Luo Chen then displayed the Sun Disc and arranged for Bibi Dong to demonstrate its Ascension Ritual 24.
The ritual overwhelmed Qian Daoliu’s divine senses and transformed Bibi Dong’s strength. She attacked him afterward, believing he intended to take Luo Chen away. Although Qian Daoliu initially retained the advantage, her ultimate attributes allowed her to withstand him. When she fused her Martial Souls into the Demon Abyss Divine Queen and gained divine power, he withdrew rather than risk destroying Spirit City in a battle between demigods 25 26 27 28.
Protecting Spirit Hall’s Future
After recognizing Luo Chen’s potential, Qian Daoliu ordered the six enshrined to keep his information secret and treat him with the same consideration as Qian Renxue. He believed Spirit Hall’s ability to unite the continent might depend on the boy 31.
He also began encouraging a future relationship between Luo Chen and Qian Renxue. Beyond strengthening the Angel Clan’s inheritance, he hoped their bond could help reconcile Qian Renxue with Bibi Dong. He later secured Bibi Dong’s reluctant agreement to let Qian Renxue compete fairly with Hu Liena for Luo Chen’s affection 30 37.
Recognizing that his protectiveness had deprived Qian Renxue of ordinary companionship, Qian Daoliu allowed her to make friends and enroll at Spirit Hall Academy. He subsequently arranged a spar between her and Luo Chen, accepted Luo Chen as his grandson, and assigned the enshrined to protect both children 42 43 44 48.
Appearance
- Apparent age: Looks like a man in his thirties or forties despite being 150 years old 2 42.
- Build and bearing: Tall, handsome, and imposing 24 27.
- Hair: Blond or golden; Bibi Dong cuts off a strand during their battle 2 26.
Personality
Qian Daoliu prizes chivalry, honesty, and openly conducted combat. The narration distinguishes him from Qian Xunji and explicitly rejects Bibi Dong’s assumption that he would exploit Luo Chen. He prefers invitations, persuasion, and benefits to coercion, seeking willing allegiance rather than bodily submission 24 27 28.
His affection for Qian Renxue shapes both his mercy and his mistakes. He spares Bibi Dong for her sake and tries to repair their estrangement, but initially shelters his granddaughter so closely that she has no friends her own age. He is capable of admitting this failure and allowing her greater independence 2 5 30 42.
He is proud of his strength and deeply protective of the Angel God’s dignity. His confidence leads him to underestimate Bibi Dong after her Ascension, but he reassesses the danger rather than prolonging a confrontation that could destroy Spirit City. He also acknowledges that the Qian Family wronged her 27 28.
