Background / History

Clan origins and pursuit of theory

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as its leader’s legitimate son. Despite receiving resources from his father, he awakened Luo Sanpao rather than the clan’s Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Martial Soul. Unable to endure his clansmen’s scorn, he left the clan and joined Spirit Hall in search of a remedy for his cultivation limitations 20.

After exhausting his options, he turned to theoretical research to prove his worth, following Bibi Dong’s suggestion. She obtained an honorary elder title for him, but Qian Xunji later stripped it away. His Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul organized Spirit Hall’s accumulated research into a publicly released work 20 21.

Retreat to Nuoding City

Yu Xiaogang fled to Nuoding City because he could not accept his relationship with Liu Erlong. Bibi Dong secretly searched for him over the years and eventually learned where he was living 2.

At his lowest point, he received shelter from Ma Te, dean of Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy. Ma Te, whom Yu Xiaogang had helped in the past, allowed him to live and eat at the academy without charge 31.

Reunion and subsidy dispute

Yu Xiaogang encountered Bibi Dong outside Nuoding City’s Spirit Hall Branch and immediately accused Spirit Hall of plotting an “evil scheme” connected to the previous day’s celestial phenomenon. Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo forced him to his knees with Soul Power pressure until Bibi Dong intervened 13.

When Luo Chen challenged his hostility toward an organization whose subsidies he collected, Yu Xiaogang argued that the money came from the two empires and that Spirit Hall merely used it to build its reputation. Luo Chen countered by emphasizing Spirit Hall’s role in establishing the subsidies and providing free Martial Soul awakenings. Yu Xiaogang left for the academy without surrendering his pouch of ten Gold Soul Coins 14.

Bloodline extraction and breakthrough

Bibi Dong later offered him a way to overcome his cultivation limit. He initially assumed that she wanted to recruit him back into Spirit Hall, but became eager when she explained that Luo Chen could address his Martial Soul’s defect 20.

During their meeting behind the academy, Yu Xiaogang summoned Luo Sanpao and agreed to treatment after questioning its risks. Unknown to him, Na’er was extracting the Dragon King bloodline responsible for his cultivation burden. The removal allowed him to advance from rank 29 to rank 30 and noticeably improved his aptitude 21.

When Luo Chen’s condition deteriorated afterward, Bibi Dong blamed herself for bringing him to help Yu Xiaogang. Her anger erupted through her Divine Slaughter’s Domain and Soul Power, knocking Yu Xiaogang unconscious. Ma Te found him and arranged treatment; he required a full day and night to recover 22 31.

Discovery of Martial Soul Possession

After recovering, Yu Xiaogang remained convinced that Bibi Dong loved him and would return to apologize. With his cultivation restored, he intended to leave Nuoding City, although he still wanted Ma Te’s assistance obtaining a Soul Ring 31.

Testing Luo Sanpao revealed an unexpected change: it had lost its solid, independently active form and become an energy-form Beast Martial Soul capable of possession. Yu Xiaogang’s first possession transformed him into a nearly two-meter-tall, pig-like figure. His subsequent Soul Skill tests engulfed nearby academy residents in foul smoke, causing retching, fainting, and forced sleep. He finally saw his transformed appearance in a mirror and reacted with disbelief 31.

Appearance

  • Ordinary appearance: A bearded, black-clad man in his thirties. He habitually stands upright with one hand or both hands behind his back, maintaining a composed, authoritative posture 13 21.
  • Luo Sanpao possession: Becomes nearly two meters tall, with a swollen belly, purple markings, conspicuous pig ears, and heavy folds of fat. The transformation splits his clothing 31.

Personality

Yu Xiaogang places great importance on pride, lineage, and appearing composed. He regards his position as a clan leader’s son as grounds to treat Spirit Hall’s Holy Maiden as an equal, while dismissing its serving powerhouses as lackeys. His outward indifference also serves a deliberate purpose: he uses it to test Bibi Dong’s attachment and avoid appearing dependent on her 13 20.

His desire to overcome his cultivation defect can rapidly disrupt that reserve. During Luo Chen’s examination, excitement leads him to grip the child’s shoulders painfully; he apologizes after Bibi Dong intervenes. Once convinced that Luo Chen can help, his attitude becomes markedly more agreeable 21.

He is deeply suspicious of Spirit Hall and interprets even successful treatment as evidence that Bibi Dong wants his wisdom for her ambitions. His attitude toward Ma Te is similarly utilitarian: after recovering his ability to cultivate, he considers his host no longer useful except for assistance hunting Soul Rings 21 31.

Abilities & Skills

Martial Soul Theory

Yu Xiaogang is known as a leading theoretical Grandmaster and uses scholarship as an alternative means of proving himself 19 20.

  • Compiled the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul from Spirit Hall’s years of research 21.
  • Bibi Dong initially considers him capable of advising her about Luo Chen’s unusual physical condition 13 19.
  • His understanding has significant blind spots: he never meaningfully investigates why Luo Sanpao can act independently, dismissing it as a low-quality Martial Soul useful only for farting 31.
  • Bibi Dong later reassesses his published theories as common knowledge and their publication as disclosure of Spirit Hall’s research 21.

Luo Sanpao

Before the bloodline extraction, Luo Sanpao manifests as a solid creature with independent consciousness 21 31.

  • Resembles a dog with the bulk of a fat pig, pale-purple fur, and two drooping ears; its body is more than a meter and a half long 21.
  • Can move independently, respond affectionately to Yu Xiaogang, and be summoned through pale-purple Soul Power 21 31.
  • Contains Dragon King origin that Na’er identifies as valuable to her own growth 13.
  • After extraction, becomes an intangible, energy-form Beast Martial Soul rather than a solid companion 31.

Martial Soul Possession

The altered Luo Sanpao can merge with Yu Xiaogang through a method he senses instinctively 31.

  • Changes his fighting method from summoning and commanding Luo Sanpao to using its abilities through his own transformed body.
  • Produces a large, pig-like physique rather than the appearance he expects.
  • Allows him to activate his existing two Soul Skills while possessed 31.

First Soul Skill: Fart Like Thunder, Earth-Shattering Luo Sanpao

  • In his post-treatment possessed state, releases a forceful discharge of yellow smoke from his body.
  • Fills his residence and reaches nearby teachers and students.
  • Causes severe nausea and retching; some affected residents faint and foam at the mouth. Ma Te also suffers intense eye irritation 31.

Second Soul Skill: Fart Like Mist—Hypnotic Slumber Luo Sanpao

  • Releases further foul-smelling smoke that puts nearby teachers and students into deep sleep.
  • Ma Te, a rank-35 Soul Elder, remains conscious during the demonstrated release.
  • Yu Xiaogang himself does not find the smoke particularly foul while using the skills in his possessed state 31.

Cultivation Defect and Recovery

  • Na’er identifies the Dragon King bloodline as a burden his original aptitude cannot sustain, rather than a straightforward benefit 13.
  • Removing that bloodline breaks his rank-29 limit and improves Soul Power circulation and refinement efficiency 21.
  • Na’er predicts that his resulting aptitude might correspond to innate rank seven or eight, but this estimate is never confirmed by testing 13.
  • The procedure is not a genuine Ascension Ritual. Na’er performs the extraction; the Sun Disc supplies the outward display, and Luo Chen does not grant Yu Xiaogang a qualitative Martial Soul evolution 21.

Relationships

  • Yu Luozhen — Father and leader of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Provided resources for him during his upbringing 13 20.
  • Bibi Dong — Former lover and early supporter of his theoretical career. Her attachment initially leads her to protect him and arrange treatment, but his behavior and Luo Chen’s suffering destroy her favorable view of him. By Chapter 45, she hopes he will leak Luo Chen’s secret so she has grounds to kill him; Yu Xiaogang’s last shown understanding is that reconciliation remains possible 20 22 23 31 45.
  • Liu Erlong — Their relationship is the stated reason he retreats to Nuoding City. The provided account does not explain its underlying circumstances 2.
  • Luo Chen — Publicly defeats his argument about Spirit Hall’s subsidies, then facilitates his breakthrough while secretly obtaining his Dragon King bloodline for Na’er. Yu Xiaogang briefly wishes to take Luo Chen as a disciple to substantiate his theories 14 21.
  • Na’er — Identifies and extracts the bloodline burdening his cultivation. Yu Xiaogang does not know she is responsible for the extraction 13 21.
  • Ma Te — Friend, host, and dean of Nuoding City Junior Soul Master Academy. Shelters him, obtains treatment after Bibi Dong’s attack, and is the person Yu Xiaogang plans to rely on for Soul Ring hunting 31.
  • Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo — Openly contemptuous of him. They punish his accusations against Spirit Hall with overwhelming Soul Power pressure and restrain themselves out of consideration for Bibi Dong 13 14 22.
