Nature

• An outlet for The Star Forger: Although Luo Chen introduces the Sun Disc and Celestial Star Crown as separate martial souls, both are associated manifestations that release The Star Forger’s power. The Star Forger is his only martial soul in the fullest sense 6.
• No conventional combat function: The Sun Disc cannot accept Soul Rings and, according to Luo Chen, has no combat abilities 6 45.
• Attraction to evolution: Its presence inspires longing in other Soul Masters regardless of cultivation level. Bibi Dong identifies this as their martial souls’ desire to evolve, rather than ordinary possessiveness 6 24.
• Authority over divine power: When activated before Qian Daoliu, its power places him under immense pressure and causes the Angel Divine Power within him to submit 25.

Ascension Ritual

The Sun Disc’s special soul skill, Ascension, develops a Soul Master’s latent aptitude and can qualitatively transform their martial soul 7.

• Raises innate Soul Power and evolves martial souls 7.
• Can help awaken domains and ultimate attributes 45.
• May produce a natal Soul Ring when a martial soul evolves; this is a possibility, not a guaranteed result 24.
• Can be performed in separate stages while the recipient still has unrealized potential 8.
• Requires mutual trust and the recipient’s willingness to open their body and mind to Luo Chen 8 21.

Ascension Stages

• These are the actual costs disclosed to Bibi Dong. Luo Chen initially doubles the reported costs and conceals the fifth stage 8 25.
• Reaching the fifth stage does not automatically make the recipient a deity. Bibi Dong unlocks a path to godhood, but the Douluo Plane lacks the Celestial Power needed to complete her future godhood ritual 25 26.

Energy Storage and Recovery

• The Sun Disc automatically absorbs energy from its surroundings to replenish its stored Ascended Power 7.
• Its maximum capacity remains 100 points, regardless of Luo Chen’s Soul Power rank 7.
• Ascension consumes the disc’s reserves rather than Luo Chen’s Soul Power. Although he channels Soul Power to activate it, the ritual itself does not deplete his cultivation reserves 7.
• After Wang Sheng’s and Hu Liena’s rituals consume 10% and 20%, respectively, recovery over the following two days brings the reserve to 72% 25.
• Bibi Dong’s ritual exhausts that entire remaining reserve 26.

Recipient Bond

• Ascension establishes a bond between Luo Chen and its recipients, a property he initially keeps secret 8.

Limitations

• Cannot create unlimited potential: Ascension brings existing aptitude to its limit; it cannot raise that underlying limit from nothing 8.
• Limited benefit for exhausted potential: It cannot transform Su Yuntao’s or Sisi’s prospects as dramatically as Wang Sheng’s because their remaining capacity for development is very small 15.
• Cannot remove aptitude: The Sun Disc can bestow Ascended Power, but it cannot take away another person’s talent 21.
• Cannot independently extract bloodlines: Removing Yu Xiaogang’s Dragon King bloodline is Na’er’s ability, not the Sun Disc’s 21.
• Higher stages can be physically demanding: Although the information Luo Chen receives describes failed Ascension as harmless to aptitude and martial souls, Bibi Dong suffers severe pain and injuries while forcing her way onto the fifth stage with insufficient reserves 7 25.

Assessed but Unperformed Applications

• Chrysanthemum Douluo: A second-stage ritual could remove cultivation obstacles caused by problems with the Soul Rings attached to his Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum, without evolving the martial soul 8.
• Ghost Douluo: A second-stage ritual could resolve his martial soul’s vulnerability to powerful light attributes, also without evolution 8.
• Yu Xiaogang: Luo Chen believes the Sun Disc could directly awaken the Golden Sacred Dragon, but refuses to spend Ascended Power on him 19.

History

Initial Revelation

Luo Chen first reveals the Sun Disc to Bibi Dong, Chrysanthemum Douluo, Ghost Douluo, Hu Liena, and Wang Sheng. He conceals its relationship to The Star Forger, while Bibi Dong orders the witnesses to publicly identify the Celestial Star Crown as his only martial soul. The Sun Disc’s ability to improve other people’s aptitude subsequently makes Luo Chen a major strategic asset to Spirit Hall 6 7 8.

Yu Xiaogang’s Treatment

To arrange treatment for Yu Xiaogang without revealing Ascension’s full capabilities, Luo Chen proposes describing his martial soul as a support-type tool martial soul capable of repairing defects. During the procedure, he uses the Sun Disc’s rotating light display as cover while Na’er extracts the Dragon King bloodline that suppresses Yu Xiaogang’s talent. Yu Xiaogang reaches rank 30, but receives no actual Ascension Ritual; his distrust would have prevented one anyway 19 21.

Disclosure to the Enshrined

Luo Chen later reveals the Sun Disc to Qian Daoliu and offers Bibi Dong’s Ascension as a demonstration, intending to improve her position in their conflict. Her resulting transformation establishes the disc’s power before Spirit Hall’s leadership 24 25 26.

When Luo Chen explains its abilities to the assembled Enshrined, Bibi Dong declares that future recipients must earn his approval and sufficient merit. She publicly presents herself as controlling access to Ascension at Luo Chen’s request, allowing him to avoid personally bearing the resentment of people whose requests are refused 45 46.
