Background / History

Earth and the Class Reunion

Ye Fan first encounters Li Dan after his Mercedes stops just short of hitting him. He checks whether Li Dan is injured and gives him his telephone number, but cannot understand his question about the “Shrouding the Heavens World.” Pang Bo contacts him about their university reunion during the encounter 48.

When Ye Fan later considers missing the reunion, Lin Hao secretly uses a wisp of golden light to change his decision. Ye Fan briefly sees Lin Hao and Ji Ziyue beside the road before they disappear, leaving him to wonder whether he imagined them. He picks up Li Dan, intending to take him along before bringing him to a hospital 56.

Nine Dragons Pulling a Coffin

Ye Fan reunites with Pang Bo and their classmates at Mount Tai. Their excursion is interrupted when nine enormous black dragon corpses descend from the cosmos, pulling an ancient bronze coffin onto Jade Emperor Peak 57 58.

Carried away in the coffin, the group emerges on Yinghuo Ancient Star—Mars. Ye Fan notices ruined buildings, and the travelers follow cooking smoke to a temple occupied by Lin Hao and Ji Ziyue 63 64.

Ye Fan acts as a spokesman, carefully questioning Ji Ziyue about their location, their destination, and the dangers around them. Inside the Great Thunderclap Temple, he recognizes that its unusually preserved relics cannot be ordinary objects 66 67.

An earth-vein storm forces the group back toward the coffin. Ye Fan urges everyone to keep together, and Lin Hao shelters the exhausted travelers before lifting them into the coffin with an irresistible force. Lin Hao chooses to let Ye Fan follow his own path rather than remove every danger awaiting him 68 69 70.

Desolate Ancient Forbidden Land

The coffin’s next documented stop brings Ye Fan and his classmates to the Desolate Ancient Forbidden Land. While searching for an exit, most of the group rapidly ages. Ye Fan and Pang Bo instead return to childhood 74 75.

Ji Ziyue explains that the unusual fruits they ate belonged to the Nine Marvels Immortal Medicine. The fruit protected their life essence, turning the forbidden land’s effects into a benefit rather than the devastating loss of vitality suffered by their classmates 78.

After Ji Ziyue entrusts the survivors to nearby cultivators, Ye Fan learns about the Heavenly Court and Lin Hao’s standing as Heavenly Emperor. A cultivator surnamed Liu takes the group away and explains cultivation, from opening the Bitter Sea through the higher secret realms. Ye Fan also learns that a Great Emperor suppresses the myriad Daos, preventing another emperor from arising during that emperor’s lifetime 80 81 82 83.

Lingxu Cave Heaven and the Sacred Body Impasse

Ye Fan joins Lingxu Cave Heaven, but his Desolate Ancient Sacred Body becomes an obstacle rather than an advantage. Spiritual Qi produces almost no response, his cultivation demands enormous resources, and the sect’s interest cools after months without progress 142 146.

Pang Bo and Li Dan secretly give him Source to support him. Though briefly tempted to abandon cultivation and settle into an ordinary life, Ye Fan rejects the idea, unwilling to accept that his path has ended 142.

Seeking the Heavenly Court

In a town near Lingxu Cave Heaven, Ye Fan meets the lost Xiao Nannan and her golden-furred companion, Qiu’er. He shares his steamed buns with them and learns that they intend to find the Heavenly Court and meet Lin Hao, despite being unable to explain their origins or purpose clearly 142 144 145.

Ye Fan agrees to seek information and escort them as far as he can. His decision combines concern for Xiao Nannan, curiosity about the pair, and hope that Lin Hao might overcome his Sacred Body’s cultivation barrier 145 146.

Lingxu Cave Heaven cannot locate the Heavenly Court directly, but its leader identifies White Emperor City as the best lead and gives Ye Fan a jade-slip map. Despite warnings that the journey spans tens of thousands of li and could kill him, Ye Fan leaves with Xiao Nannan, Qiu’er, and Pang Bo 146 147.

Qing Emperor’s Tomb

On the seventh day of their journey, Ye Fan and Pang Bo learn that Qing Emperor’s Tomb has appeared. Ye Fan initially refuses to divert toward it, judging the gathering of powerful cultivators too dangerous for their party. He changes course only after Qiu’er senses a familiar presence connected to karma, choosing to investigate the outskirts 147 148.

Near the tomb, the group watches the arrival of the Yaoguang Holy Land, Ji Family, Jiang Family, and other major powers. Ye Fan assesses the gathering and predicts that the holy lands will need to cooperate to break the outer restrictions. Qiu’er’s suggestion that the tomb could offer an opportunity to become an emperor further interests him 185.

Future Known to Lin Hao

Lin Hao recognizes Ye Fan as the future Heavenly Emperor Ye. His reflections describe Ye Fan’s eventual trials on the Starry Sky Ancient Road, his role in quelling the Dark Turmoil, and his use of his body as a seed to break the Sacred Body’s inability to attain the Dao. These are future developments known to Lin Hao, not achievements Ye Fan has reached in the documented storyline 48 56.

Lin Hao’s intervention in the class reunion is also tied to arrangements with the Ruthless Great Emperor, whose plans across countless ages concern waiting for a “similar flower” 56.

Appearance

  • Initially appears as a young man living in modern Earth’s technological society 48 56.
  • Becomes physically childlike after consuming immortal fruit and passing through the Desolate Ancient Forbidden Land’s temporal effects 75 78.
  • Retains a calm gaze and measured conduct despite his youthful appearance, distinguishing him from his frightened companions 81.

Personality

Ye Fan is composed, observant, and pragmatic under pressure. On Mars, he suppresses his panic to question Ji Ziyue carefully, notices inconsistencies in the temple relics, and helps keep his companions together during the storm. He accepts Lin Hao’s shelter with gratitude rather than demanding further assistance 66 67 68 69.

His caution does not prevent him from helping others. Although he recognizes that Xiao Nannan and Qiu’er could bring serious trouble, he cannot leave a young child wandering alone. Before agreeing to escort them, he openly states the limits of his knowledge and ability to protect them 144 145.

Ye Fan is unwilling to surrender his prospects merely because others call his constitution useless. Mockery, poverty, and months of stalled cultivation discourage him, but he continues seeking a way forward rather than accepting an ordinary life 142 146.

Abilities & Skills

Desolate Ancient Sacred Body

An unusual constitution whose cultivation potential is obstructed in the current age 142 146.

  • Cultivation barrier: His Bitter Sea is described as hard as divine iron, with no sign of the Life Spring 142.
  • Extreme resource demands: Ordinary spiritual Qi is insufficient; he believes sustained supplies of Source or divine-medicine essence are needed to force progress 142.
  • Physical strength: Following the forbidden land’s baptism, his flesh exceeds that of ordinary cultivators even without an opened Bitter Sea 147.
  • Unusual resonance: Qiu’er’s presence briefly stirs the origin of his Sacred Body before it falls dormant again 142.

Observation and Judgment

  • Notices the abnormal preservation of wooden and bronze objects in Mars’s harsh environment 67.
  • Recognizes Xiao Nannan’s hours of effortless walking as abnormal for a child of her apparent age 146.
  • Identifies the danger of entering an emperor’s tomb amid stronger factions and initially prioritizes his companions’ destination 148.
  • Assesses a Yaoguang elder as at least a Half-Step Almighty and anticipates cooperation between the holy lands against the tomb’s restrictions 185.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mercedes-Benz: His vehicle on Earth, used when meeting and later collecting Li Dan 48 56.
  • Great Thunderclap Temple relics: Handles a faintly glowing bronze mirror that gives off warmth; later attempts to use warmth from a bronze plaque to resist Lin Hao’s force, without success 67 69.
  • Source: Receives a small supply from Pang Bo and Li Dan, barely enough to support his daily needs 142.
  • Jade-slip map: Given by Lingxu Cave Heaven’s leader; contains a rough route to White Emperor City and travel warnings 147.

Relationships

  • Pang Bo — University classmate and one of his closest friends. Shares his journey from Earth, helps support him with Source, and insists on accompanying him to White Emperor City 57 142 147.
  • Li Dan — Meets him through the Mercedes incident, checks on his welfare, and brings him to Mount Tai. Li Dan later helps him financially with Source 48 56 58 142.
  • Xiao Nannan — A lost girl he feeds and agrees to escort toward the Heavenly Court. She calls him “big brother” and says his presence feels comfortable 144 145.
  • Qiu’er — Xiao Nannan’s companion and Ye Fan’s traveling ally. Corrects his assumption that she is a puppy, challenges his reluctance to help, and prompts the detour toward Qing Emperor’s Tomb 144 145 148.
  • Lin Hao — A powerful benefactor who secretly ensures his attendance at the reunion and shelters his group on Mars. Ye Fan hopes Lin Hao can resolve his cultivation barrier, but explicitly denies having close ties to him 56 69 146 147.
  • Ji Ziyue — Explains Mars’s dangers and the immortal fruit’s effects, then entrusts his group to cultivators. Ye Fan describes their connection as a chance acquaintance rather than a close relationship 66 78 80 146.
  • Immortal Master Liu — Helps evacuate the survivors and introduces Ye Fan to the cultivation system 81 82 83.

Heavenly Screen Reception

  • Yu Xiaogang dismisses Ye Fan as an ordinary “background extra” with slightly better luck and directs Shrek’s students to stop watching him 143.
  • Bibi Dong praises his decisiveness and orders Spirit Hall to record all footage and information concerning him 144.
  • Ning Fengzhi considers his survival through the Nine Dragons Pulling a Coffin evidence of exceptional resolve and experience 144.
  • Yu Yuanzhen and his clan elders reject judging him by his modest appearance, citing his survival of both the coffin journey and the Desolate Ancient Forbidden Land 144.
