Arc 21Bansy Harbor and the Hunt

Klein rescued passengers from Bansy Harbor’s supernatural crisis and learned that its old name, Bincy, connected it to Medici and Rose Redemption. After releasing Danitz in Bayam, Klein began preparing to hunt Steel Maviti and investigated the death of an adventurer corrupted by a Beyonder Characteristic.

  • Klein questioned Hamilton, identified the Admiral of Blood’s pirates as his first targets, and met the Blanche family while returning to the White Agate.
  • Klein received Azik’s letter, took Danitz aboard as a hostage, and used his presence to drive the Red Skull Pirates away from the ship.
  • In Bansy Harbor, Klein discovered through divination that a danger beyond the pirates threatened the town, then joined Danitz in searching for the missing passengers and crew.
  • Klein rescued the Blanche and Dimodo families, defeated Bishop Miller and the headless monsters, and learned that Bansy Harbor had once been called Bincy.
  • At the Tarot Club, Klein connected Bincy to Medici, the Red Priest, and warned that the harbor’s danger might not be over.
  • Klein reached Bayam and released Danitz, but healed him after Steel Maviti’s men nearly killed him, and Klein then decided to pursue Admiral of Blood Senor and his crew.
  • Klein investigated Wencter’s death and concluded that a released Beyonder Characteristic had taken the form of a gemstone and corrupted him.
  • Klein recognized Alger as The Hanged Man and proposed using Danitz as bait to draw out Steel Maviti, while Alger offered to help.
Chapters 502–526 Vol. 6 Read

Ch. 502Clown - Recruitment

Klein encountered Blazing Danitz, who tried to recruit him into the Golden Dream, and learned that Creeping Hunger could intensify his own killing urges. He returned to the Flying Fish and Wine disguised and watched White Shark Hamilton confront Elland, ending as Hamilton struck the bartender.

  • Klein confronted Blazing Danitz in an alley and heard his offer to join the Golden Dream pirate crew.
  • Klein’s killing intent stirred Creeping Hunger, but he restrained himself and learned White Shark Hamilton’s location from Danitz.
  • Klein divined that Danitz had told the truth and that White Shark could not endanger him, then changed his appearance and returned to the bar.
  • White Shark demanded that Elland make Klein apologize and pay for the damage, while Elland defended Klein and negotiated compensation for half the losses.
  • White Shark accepted Elland’s proposal, then slapped the bartender across the face as Klein watched nearby.

Ch. 503Clown: Interrogating "White Shark"

Klein disguised himself to interrogate White Shark Hamilton about his pirate connections, learning that Hamilton relayed intelligence for Silver Coin Viper Orville and Old Quinn using a long-range radio. Klein secretly observed Hamilton sending a warning, then left with the information and chose to target the Admiral of Blood’s pirates first.

  • Klein disguised himself as a guard, entered Hamilton’s room, and frightened him into answering questions about his pirate contacts.
  • Hamilton admitted that pirates used him to sell plunder and that he gathered intelligence for them, warning them by radio when urgent news came in.
  • Hamilton revealed that Silver Coin Viper Orville and Old Quinn, the Admiral of Blood’s intelligence officer, had supplied him with the radio, and that Old Quinn had given him his potion.
  • Klein pretended to leave, then secretly watched Hamilton transmit a warning and memorized the radio’s frequency and codebook contents.
  • Klein decided not to harm Hamilton yet and identified the Admiral of Blood’s violent pirates as his first hunting targets.

Ch. 504Clown: Bait

Klein used a false persona as bait to make White Shark Hamilton misjudge him and relay intelligence about a supposed novice adventurer. Back aboard the White Agate, Klein noticed Damir Port’s Spirit World-touched cured meat before receiving a letter from his skeletal messenger.

  • Hamilton questioned his guards, concluded Klein was an inexperienced adventurer relying on a powerful mystical item, and sent that mistaken assessment to his contacts.
  • Klein returned toward the White Agate, planning to use the false adventurer identity to attract pirates and monitor communications once he obtained radio equipment.
  • Krivis met Klein near the Blanche family, and Klein introduced himself to Urdi Blanche as a fellow professional available for hire.
  • Klein sensed a Spirit World aura in the cured meat carried by the Blanche family and realized it could briefly give children limited Spirit Vision.
  • After Klein returned to the ship and headed for his cabin, his skeletal messenger appeared and dropped off a letter.

Ch. 505Clown: Scenes from Azik's memories

Klein received Azik’s letter, which returned the Black Emperor card and warned him about the Spirituality Religion Copper Whistle. As Klein spoke with Donna and Denton on the White Agate, Danitz boarded the ship and recognized him.

  • A skeleton messenger delivered Azik’s letter to Klein, while Donna and Denton witnessed it because they had eaten Damir Port’s special cured meat.
  • Klein read Azik’s account of the War of the Four Emperors and his warnings about the copper whistle and the Black Emperor card, then sealed the card and whistle above the gray fog.
  • Klein thanked Captain Elland for covering the few soli that White Shark had asked him to pay for the bar counter.
  • Klein told Donna and Denton that the skeleton had been a messenger, and they promised to keep his secret.
  • Danitz boarded the White Agate in disguise and recognized Klein standing on the deck.

Ch. 506Clown: Hostage

Klein discovered that Blazing Danitz was aboard the White Agate and kept him under guard as a hostage while questioning him about famous pirates. As the ship sailed toward the Rorsted Archipelago, Klein and Danitz encountered Donna’s family and Captain Elland in the first-class dining room.

  • Klein confronted Danitz, learned he was traveling to the Rorsted Archipelago to await his captain’s orders, and ordered him to sleep in a servant’s room as a hostage.
  • Klein made Danitz move his belongings from his second-class cabin into room 312, then asked him to name famous pirates in order of their bounties.
  • The White Agate left port, and Danitz led Klein to the first-class dining room after finishing their conversation.
  • Klein greeted Donna’s family and introduced Danitz as someone he had saved, then ordered every item on the menu.
  • Klein greeted Captain Elland, and Danitz revealed that he had fought Elland when Elland served as boatswain of the William V.

Ch. 507Clown: The Red Skull Pirates

Klein used Blazing Danitz’s reputation to make the Red Skull Pirate Crew believe Vice Admiral Iceberg was involved, and the pirates withdrew from the White Agate. Danitz returned to the cabin furious, while Klein remained unfazed by the prospect of Iceberg’s reaction.

  • Danitz told Klein that the Red Skull Pirate Crew’s captain, Sea Wolf Johnson, and first mate, One-Eyed Anderson, were approaching the White Agate.
  • After the passengers were sent to their cabins, Klein learned from Danitz that the pirates knew him and watched targets through telescopes.
  • Klein made Danitz remove his disguise and hang outside Room 312 so the Red Skull crew would recognize him.
  • Sea Wolf Johnson saw Danitz and ordered his crew to leave, while Krivis confirmed that the pirates had withdrawn.
  • Danitz accused Klein of exploiting Vice Admiral Iceberg’s reputation, and Klein asked whether her Loen bounty was 26,000 pounds.

Ch. 508Clown: A servant worth 3,000 pounds

The Red Skull Pirates withdrew after encountering the White Agate, while Donna and Denton suspected Gehrman Sparrow had frightened them. The White Agate docked at Bansy Harbor, where Danitz noted the port’s bad reputation.

  • Elland ordered the White Agate to dock at Bansy Harbor and report the encounter to the navy and the Church.
  • Krivis and Teague explained the Red Skull Pirates’ strength, and Donna and Denton guessed Uncle Sparrow had scared them away.
  • Klein made Danitz wash his dirty clothes, then told Donna and Denton that Danitz was his prisoner of war and a pirate.
  • Krivis revealed that Blazing Danitz had a bounty of three thousand pounds, shocking Donna and Denton.
  • The White Agate entered Bansy Harbor, and Danitz remarked on its bad legends.

Ch. 509Clown: Weather Museum

Klein discovered through divination that Bansy Harbor held great hidden danger, despite an initial reassuring result, and warned Krivis to return to the ship. As the weather turned violent, Donna saw a headless figure carrying a lantern outside the Green Lemon Restaurant.

  • Danitz told Klein about Bansy Harbor’s disappearances, cannibalism, weather rituals, and customs, then suggested they visit the Green Lemon Restaurant for pork blood.
  • Klein’s first coin divination suggested no danger, but a pendulum divination above the gray fog revealed that Bansy Harbor concealed very great danger unrelated to pirates.
  • Klein decided to put safety first and went with Danitz to the first-class dining room instead of ashore.
  • Krivis visited Klein, identified Danitz as Blazing Danitz, and asked what Klein planned to do with him; Klein said he was keeping watch over him.
  • Klein warned Krivis to return to the ship quickly because Bansy Harbor held hidden danger.
  • As Donna waited at the Green Lemon Restaurant, fierce winds rose and she saw a headless, blood-gushing figure carrying a lantern pass outside.

Ch. 510Bansy Harbor in the Wind

Donna saw a headless corpse outside the Green Lemon Restaurant during a gale, while Elland and Harris encountered a decapitated priest at the Church of Storms. After divining that danger was present in Bansy Harbor, Klein went out to find the missing people, with Danitz following him.

  • Donna said she had seen a headless living corpse outside, and Krivis told the group not to leave or answer knocking during Bansy Harbor’s sudden storms.
  • Elland and Harris went to the Church of Storms, where Elland patted Jies and watched the priest’s head fall from his neck.
  • Klein sensed danger after the gale eased, then divined that Bansy Harbor was dangerous but found the result did not explain the deeper hidden risk.
  • Klein decided to leave the ship to look for Captain Elland and the missing families, explaining that they had helped him and kept his secret.
  • Danitz decided the ship was not safe and caught up with Klein, who borrowed a lantern before they entered the dark harbor together.

Ch. 511Do not go outside

Klein and Danitz crossed Bansy Harbor’s foggy streets, fighting flying, decaying heads, while Donna’s family decided to leave the Green Lemon Restaurant despite warnings about going outside. Klein reunited with them and said they would go to the telegraph office, asking where the Dimodo family was.

  • Klein struck a flying, rotten head with his cane, then destroyed it with light from the Sun domain.
  • Danitz fought another flying head with gunfire and flames, finally killing it with an explosive fireball before hurrying after Klein.
  • Donna refused to stay at the Green Lemon Restaurant, and Krivis persuaded Urdi Blanche to leave with the family despite Fox’s warning about the fog and knocks.
  • After the restaurant door shut behind them, a shriveled head flew onto the street and dissolved in descending light.
  • Klein arrived with Danitz, reassured Donna and Denton, and told Krivis’s group to go to the telegraph office before asking about the Dimodo family.

Ch. 512A request

Klein led the group through Bansy Harbor to retrieve Dimodo and his wife, fighting off several monsters along the way. They reached the telegraph office, where a woman told them that Captain Elland and his first mate were at the church and asked them to look for her missing colleague, Pavo Court.

  • Klein forced his way into the Green Lemon Restaurant and brought Dimodo and his wife out, while Fox stayed behind with the other patrons.
  • Klein used the Sun Halo to bolster the group and cleanse the sinister influence affecting them, then led them toward the telegraph office.
  • Three mold-covered heads attacked Klein, but he lured them to the Azik Copper Whistle and destroyed them with Light of Holiness.
  • Danitz blasted a charging headless monster, and Klein pinned it down before destroying it with the Sun Brooch’s power.
  • After clearing two more waves of monsters, the group reached the telegraph office and learned that Elland and his first mate had gone to the church.
  • The telegraph office worker asked Klein’s group to search for her missing colleague, Pavo Court.

Ch. 513The returning bishop

Gehrman Sparrow and the others found the Church of Storms deserted except for a murdered priest, then encountered the missing Bishop Miller, who claimed cultists had attacked the church. Klein’s coin revealed that Miller harbored ill intent just as red light appeared in the bishop’s eyes.

  • Gehrman Sparrow led the group to the Church of Storms, where Captain Elland reported that priest Jies had been killed and Bishop Miller and the other clergy were missing.
  • Klein inspected Jies’s body, considered possible causes of Bansy Harbor’s strange events, and decided the group should return to the White Agate rather than investigate underground.
  • Elland agreed to report the situation to the Church of Storms, and the group headed toward the telegraph office.
  • Bishop Miller appeared in the fog and told Elland that cultists had sacrificed people, attacked the church, and fled to a mountain cave after the Mandated Punishers routed them.
  • Klein flipped a coin and determined that Bishop Miller harbored ill intent as dark red light surged in the bishop’s eyes.

Ch. 514"The Turncoat Aura"

Klein and his allies fought Bishop Miller and six headless monsters after Miller’s corruption erupted into a violent attack. Klein defeated the bishop with several Beyonder abilities and Creeping Hunger, while Elland and Danitz destroyed the headless monsters; Donna watched Klein collect himself afterward.

  • Bishop Miller unleashed a gale and sent six headless figures to attack Klein and the others.
  • Klein used the Azik Copper Whistle to draw the headless figures away, then charged Miller while Elland prepared holy water and Danitz set a fire trap.
  • Klein drove Miller into a frenzy, pierced his mind, and struck him with the Light Priest’s radiance before Creeping Hunger devoured the bishop’s remains.
  • Elland threw holy water over the headless figures, and Danitz shattered the flask with fire ravens, dissolving the monsters and leaving the copper whistle behind.
  • Danitz retrieved the Azik Copper Whistle, and Donna watched Klein pick up his hat and return to the group.

Ch. 515Was it over?

Klein and the others survived the night in Bansy Harbor after killing Bishop Miller, and the Mandated Punishers later declared the crisis resolved. As the White Agate prepared to leave, Elland revealed that Bansy Harbor had once been called Bincy Town, a name tied to Klein’s search for Medici.

  • Klein retrieved Bishop Miller’s Beyonder Characteristic, concealed traces of the battle, and led the group away from the scene.
  • At the telegraph office, Elland received a draft that smelled of blood, and Klein ordered everyone back to the White Agate.
  • Klein returned Miller’s Beyonder Characteristic to Elland and kept watch as the storm subsided and three Mandated Punishers arrived.
  • Elland told Klein that Miller had led the cultists and that the Church of Storms would investigate; he also said the Mandated Punishers wanted Blanche’s and Dimodo’s families to sign confidentiality agreements.
  • After Bansy Harbor’s residents emerged in the morning, Elland explained that the harbor had once been called Bincy Town, and Klein connected the name to the Evil Spirit’s lead about Medici.

Ch. 516A scare

After escaping Bansy Harbor, Klein decided to report its dangerous secrets through the Tarot Club and warned Donna and Denton that Beyonder powers came with madness. In Backlund, Audrey prepared to leave for East Chester County and planned to join the Church’s charitable organization.

  • Klein decided to have The World raise Bansy Harbor’s abnormalities at the next Tarot Club meeting so The Hanged Man could alert the authorities about Rose Redemption and the hidden Angel King.
  • Elland gave Klein a Merfolk’s swim bladder as a friendly gift, and Donna delivered 150 pounds from her family and the other rescued passengers to reimburse his expenses.
  • Klein explained Beyonder powers to Donna and Denton, then revealed his grotesque mutated appearance to show them the madness that came with the path; both children fled in terror.
  • Klein returned to normal and ordered Danitz to clean his bloodied cane after Danitz criticized him for frightening the children.
  • Audrey told Countess Caitlyn that she wanted to join the Church’s charitable organization after returning to Backlund, then spoke with Susie as the Tarot Gathering approached.

Ch. 517Legends of the Ancient Gods

At the Tarot Club, Klein read new diary pages and legends of the ancient gods, then oversaw several trades. The gathering ended with Audrey set to buy a powerful mystical item, while Emlyn hesitated over the cost of a Sanguine baron’s inheritance.

  • Audrey and Fors gave Klein new pages of Roselle’s Diary, and Derrick provided legends of the ancient gods and a list of nearby monsters.
  • Klein learned the City of Silver’s account of the eight ancient gods and their alliances, including its disturbing description of Vampire Ancestor Lilith.
  • Audrey agreed to buy the Elder Tree fruit and Mirror Dragon blood from Emlyn for 750 pounds, plus his 100-pound fee.
  • Alger offered Emlyn a Sanguine baron’s inheritance for 4,500 pounds, but Emlyn said he would think about it because he had little money saved.
  • Alger told Audrey that the Artisan had completed her mystical item, which granted three Beyonder abilities but amplified her emotions, and Audrey agreed to pay 5,500 pounds after receiving it.

Ch. 518Gains for everyone

At a Tarot Club gathering, the members completed several trades and discussed plans for advancing their sequences. The World then revealed that the Church of Storms’ crisis at Bansy Harbor involved Medici, an Angel King, leaving The Hanged Man alarmed about danger still lurking there.

  • The Hanged Man gave The Sun the High Priest potion formula, and The Sun offered monster ingredients from around the City of Silver to help pay for it.
  • The Hanged Man arranged with Miss Magician to prepare a transaction for the Dragon-eyed Sea Eagle's eyes, while The World requested that Miss Magician buy a wireless telegraph receiver.
  • The Hanged Man warned The Sun to be cautious before performing a sacrificial ritual, since the City of Silver's Chief might have noticed the cycle of fate.
  • The World reported that Bansy Harbor's old sacrificial customs had returned, corrupting residents and a Church of Storms bishop, and The Hanged Man explained the harbor's history of sacrifices to the God of Weather.
  • Mr. Fool revealed that the incident reminded him of Medici, an Angel King whose blood descendants lived in Bincy, the ancient name for Bansy.
  • The Hanged Man realized the Bansy Harbor danger might not be over and suspected Mr. Fool had foreseen the Angel King's connection.

Ch. 519The Hanged Man's conjecture

The Hanged Man Alger speculated that The World served as Mr. Fool’s Blessed and considered how to report the Bansy Harbor intelligence without drawing suspicion. The gathering ended after Alger accepted Emlyn’s anesthetic gas offer, and Mr. Fool predicted that the members would have new appearances the following week.

  • Alger concluded that Mr. Fool used the Tarot Club to intervene in events and decided to wait for a safe chance to report what he knew about Bansy Harbor.
  • Audrey asked about Medici’s title, and Klein identified him as the Red Priest.
  • Emlyn asked how to keep receiving support from a powerful figure while withholding information, and Alger advised him to display abnormalities that would prompt help and surveillance.
  • Emlyn offered Alger anesthetic gas for one hundred pounds per canister and a thirty-pound fee, and Alger agreed.
  • Klein said he had foreseen that the members would have new looks the following week, then ended the gathering.

Ch. 520City of Generosity

Fors considered advancing to Trickmaster and sought advice about buying a radio, while Derrick postponed a sacrifice and searched the City of Silver’s library. Klein arrived in Bayam with Danitz, reflected on digesting his potion, and left the Blanche family with a way to contact him before telling Danitz he was free.

  • Fors anticipated becoming a Trickmaster and decided to write to Avril for help finding a radio receiver.
  • Derrick delayed sending the Spirit Eater’s stomach pouch, planned to gather ingredients for The Hanged Man, and found a book from the Giant King’s Court in the library as Colin Iliad watched him.
  • Klein reflected on how acting as Gehrman Sparrow helped him understand himself and digest his potion, then asked Danitz about pirate contacts in Bayam.
  • The White Agate reached Bayam, where Klein gave Urdi Blanche instructions for contacting him through a newspaper advertisement.
  • Donna asked Klein why he chose the dangerous path of Beyonder power, and he answered that he did it for a dream and for protection.
  • After the Blanche family left the ship, Klein told Danitz he was free.

Ch. 521As death approached

Klein spared Danitz after Danitz escaped an ambush by Steel Maviti and brought him a warning about the Admiral of Blood’s men. Meanwhile, Audrey successfully concocted and drank the Psychiatrist potion before leaving Backlund.

  • Klein let Danitz go, and Danitz went to the Golden Dream’s contact point in Bayam, where he encountered Steel Maviti.
  • Steel Maviti’s men attacked Danitz; badly wounded, Danitz escaped and ran to Klein to warn the captain that Old Lynn’s contact point had been discovered.
  • Danitz gave Klein his last words and details about his savings, but Klein healed his fatal wound while badly injuring his left arm.
  • Klein and Danitz left the street as rain began, while Klein reflected that every pirate seemed richer than he was.
  • Audrey used her collected ingredients to make the Psychiatrist potion, told Susie to learn to concoct potions, and drank it.

Ch. 522Naming

Audrey safely became a Psychiatrist after nearly losing control, explored her new powers, and named her transformed mask Lies. In Bayam, Klein learned why Admiral of Blood Senor was pursuing Edwina and considered hunting Senor and his crew.

  • Audrey nearly lost control during her advancement, but Susie calmed her and helped her regain her rationality.
  • Audrey examined her new Psychiatrist abilities and transformed her silver mask into an earring, naming it Lies.
  • Danitz told Klein that pirates believed a giant, rustproof key found on a sunken ship was Death's Key, and that Senor had joined the hunt for it.
  • Klein asked Danitz to record the Admiral of Blood's crimes and said he wanted to hunt Senor and his crew.

Ch. 523Admiral of Blood

Klein gathered Danitz's intelligence on Admiral of Blood Senor and his crew, then planned to hunt Steel Maviti. Meanwhile, Alger was ordered to investigate rumors that Vice Admiral Iceberg had obtained Death's Key and set out to ask around.

  • Danitz listed Admiral of Blood Senor's crimes, suspected Wraith powers, lucky mystical item, fleet, and strongest subordinates for Klein.
  • Klein considered the Rose School of Thought's possible ties to Senor's pirates and planned to prepare carefully before targeting Maviti.
  • Klein assigned Danitz to gather intelligence on Steel Maviti and announced that Gehrman would join the hunt.
  • Bishop Chogo ordered Alger to investigate rumors that Vice Admiral Iceberg had obtained Death's Key.
  • Alger left Sea Waves Cathedral to question pirates and planned to make a show of investigating while watching for bounty targets.

Ch. 524A bold hypothesis

Alger questioned Danitz about Death’s Key and learned that a mysterious helper had joined the hunt for Steel Maviti. Their conversation led Alger to suspect that the helper was Mr. Fool’s Blessed, while Klein searched Bayam for a suitable person to aid in his acting.

  • Alger visited Gold Coin Casino to gather information and recognized the disguised Danitz at a poker table.
  • Alger asked Danitz about Death’s Key, and Danitz revealed that Steel Maviti had attacked him and that he wanted information on Steel’s whereabouts.
  • Alger deduced that Danitz had a new, powerful helper and tested his suspicion by asking about Bansy Harbor; Danitz’s surprised reaction confirmed the connection.
  • Danitz gave Alger an address where he could leave information, and Alger agreed to watch for Steel before buying a deck of tarot cards.
  • Klein ate grilled comb-spined fish at the Old John Restaurant and planned to search adventurers’ bars for a dying person whose final wishes he could fulfill.

Ch. 525Colony

Klein explored Bayam and investigated the strange death of the adventurer Wencter, discovering that a mysterious gemstone had corrupted him. He learned that Wencter had regretted never confessing his love to Renee, and the chapter leaves Klein aware that the gemstone came from a dead Beyonder.

  • Klein left the Old John Restaurant and observed the colonial hierarchy and customs of the Rorsted Archipelago.
  • Klein visited the Swordfish Bar, where adventurers discussed Wencter's death and the mushrooms and insects found in his room.
  • Klein traced Wencter's room to 47 Blackhorn Street and performed a Spirit Channeling ritual to examine the dead man's lingering thoughts.
  • Klein saw Wencter find a blue-green gemstone forming over a corpse, then die with the gemstone pendant on his chest.
  • Klein concluded that Wencter had worn a released Beyonder Characteristic as a gemstone and had been slowly corrupted by it.

Ch. 526Cooperation

Klein gathered information about Wencter and Steel Maviti while Fors sought a radio receiver and Derrick prepared materials for a future sacrifice. After The Hanged Man recognized that Gehrman Sparrow was working with Danitz, Klein accepted his offer of help with the hunt for Steel Maviti.

  • Klein learned that Wencter had no living relatives, planned to travel to Simim Island, and was in love with Renee.
  • Fors reviewed Avril’s recommendations for radio receivers and decided to add her expenses to the price before dealing with Mr. World.
  • Derrick prepared a Spirit Eater stomach pouch and other materials but chose to wait for a safer moment to sacrifice them to Mr. Fool.
  • Emlyn asked Vemandi about the City of Silver and learned that a Nation of Silver had worshipped Omebella, queen of the Giant King's Court.
  • Klein questioned Danitz about his inquiries, recognized Alger as The Hanged Man, and proposed using Danitz as bait to draw out Steel Maviti.
  • The Hanged Man prayed to Mr. Fool and offered assistance, and Klein confirmed through The World that he needed cooperation.
