Arc 1The Flight from the Capital
Meng Zhou investigated the Zhou and Liu families’ weapons conspiracy while growing close to Chu Huaiyin, then discovered he was pregnant and fled the capital. After Meng Zhou was presumed dead and Chu Huaiyin became emperor, Meng Zhou survived and joined Guan Jiasheng’s servant on the road to the capital, where he confronted a suspicious man.
- Meng Zhou disguised himself as a bride to investigate Wang Junyang and find A-Juan, while Chu Huaiyin hid in the bridal chamber with him after stealing evidence.
- Meng Zhou stopped Jiang Xin from surrendering the Jiang family estate to Boss Huang, then secured a loan from Chu Huaiyin and urged Jiang Xin to rebuild his family.
- Meng Zhou uncovered links between the gambling house’s illicit weapons, the Zhou family, and the Liu family, then infiltrated the Liu residence and found letters connected to Mount Chongling.
- Meng Zhou helped expose the iron mines and forced labor at Mount Chongling, while Chu Huaiyin mobilized troops and later accused Liu Hongbao of rebellion.
- Li Wenle told Meng Zhou he was pregnant, so Meng Zhou hid the news from Chu Huaiyin and planned to leave the capital rather than let him discover it.
- After Meng Zhou fled, a body in his clothes was identified as his, though Li Wenle privately told the wet nurse it was not him, and Meng Zhou meanwhile met Guan Jiasheng at a ruined temple.
- Meng Zhou heard Guan Jiasheng explain the murders and stolen Lake Tai stones, while Chu Huaiyin ascended the throne as Emperor Qining.
- Meng Zhou chose to travel toward the capital with Guan Jiasheng’s servant, then drew his dagger and demanded to know who the suspicious man served.
