A mysterious ability, Superpower Mimicry
"If we can't hand it over, we'll have to hide it. But then that overseas Awakener organization won't let this go."
Fang Zhenguo looked at the triangular star core in the case and felt it was a hot potato.
Fang Yuan took the triangular star core and examined it in his hand.
Then he pressed his hand against it and tried to channel his star power to absorb the energy inside.
"What are you doing?" Fang Zhenguo asked, a little nervous.
"I'm checking what the last remaining superpower trait is," Fang Yuan replied.
"Didn't you say Xiaozhu got sick because of this thing? It's too dangerous. If you and Xiaozhu both fall ill, how are your mother and I supposed to go on?" Fang Zhenguo tried to stop him.
"If this thing really made Xiaozhu pass out, that's all the more reason for me to figure out what the energy inside is. Only by trying it myself can I find a way to cure Xiaozhu."
In fact, Fang Yuan had another, deeper consideration.
Only by growing stronger could he better protect his family.
The triangular star core before him was an opportunity.
The star core of a high-tier star beast could pay for building half of Donghai No. 1 High School.
It simply wasn't something ordinary people could afford.
Rather than let it go to waste in his hands, he might as well put it to its true use.
Well, all those high-sounding reasons above were bullshit.
Fang Yuan just wanted power. He wanted to absorb the ability inside.
With a divine artifact right in front of him, wouldn't he have to be out of his mind to give it to someone else instead of using it himself?
However, this star core had passed through who knew how many hands and still retained energy, which meant not everyone could absorb it.
Fang Yuan pressed his palm against the triangular star core and poured star power into it.
A moment later, a strange energy flowed back with his star power and burrowed into his palm, immediately causing a painful sensation like an electric shock.
Only after more than ten minutes did that electric-shock sensation gradually fade.
Fang Yuan kept his eyes fixed on his stats panel.
As the star core's energy merged into his body, the stats panel gradually changed.
Name: Fang Yuan Star power level: Lv.1 Attributes: Strength 18, Agility 15, Constitution 13, Spirit 15 Superpower trait: Unknown Trait A20392 Star slot trait: Superpower Mimicry Rage points: 202 Skills: Military Physical Combat Technique Lv.2 (72/100), Slide Step Lv.2 (9/100)
As expected, he had indeed absorbed a star core trait.
However, judging by its name alone, he couldn't yet tell what use "Superpower Mimicry" had.
Watching from the side, Fang Zhenguo asked with some concern, "How did it go?"
"I absorbed an ability, and there aren't any signs of me passing out."
Fang Yuan raised his hand and condensed a ball of star power containing the "Superpower Mimicry" trait in his palm.
He focused on examining it, but apart from the name, all he saw was a string of question marks.
He was already used to seeing question marks.
When examining Awakeners, he could see specific stats if his Spirit attribute was higher than theirs.
The higher his Spirit, the more data he could see.
If his Spirit was lower than theirs, he saw very little data, or even nothing but question marks.
Now that examining "Superpower Mimicry" produced question marks, it meant this ability's grade probably wasn't low.
"What kind of ability?" Fang Zhenguo showed a little curiosity.
"It's called 'Superpower Mimicry,' but I don't know what it does. Judging by the name, it seems to involve mimicking forms or something," Fang Yuan replied as he thought.
In nature, chameleons were an example of mimicry, imitating the colors of their surroundings to conceal themselves.
Fang Yuan channeled his star power and tried using "Superpower Mimicry."
The star power spun a few times in his palm, then burst like a bubble without producing any effect.
Fang Yuan thought the ability might need to be used on a target to work.
So he turned and glanced at Fang Zhenguo.
But on second thought, he decided against it. Old Fang already had a broken arm. If he seriously hurt him with this "Superpower Mimicry," that would be going too far.
Fang Yuan turned his attention back to the triangular star core.
After he absorbed "Superpower Mimicry," the triangular star core's energy was completely exhausted, just as expected.
In the end.
Father and son stared blankly at the empty star core, pondering what to do with it.
They couldn't let anyone from the Spear of God discover this thing, much less keep it at home.
Their whole family was being watched now. Someone might sneak into their home to search it at any moment.
If it was found, they would be in trouble.
"We have to hide this thing. I'll take it back to our old home in the countryside tomorrow," Fang Zhenguo said.
"Your arm's broken, and you're still going out? Even an idiot would know something was up. Stay out of this. I'll handle it." Fang Yuan put the triangular star core back in its case.
"Can you manage it?" Fang Zhenguo was still a little worried.
"Find something valuable, gold bars or diamonds or whatever, and lock it in the safe. It'd be too strange not to have anything valuable in there," Fang Yuan reminded him.
"I wish I had gold bars and diamonds," Fang Zhenguo retorted.
"Then put the most valuable thing in the house in there."
"You're the most valuable thing in the house. In you go." Fang Zhenguo pointed at the safe with a perfectly straight face.
"That sounds like a compliment, so why does it rub me the wrong way?" Fang Yuan stuffed the triangular star core into his schoolbag.
They traded a few more barbs, then each went back to his room to sleep.
After returning to his room, Fang Zhenguo closed the door and switched on the desk lamp.
Then he took a Glock pistol from beneath the desk.
With one hand, he loaded the bullets and inserted the magazine.
He twirled the gun a few times before finally slipping it beneath his pillow.
Although he hadn't touched a gun in many years, the feeling returned the moment his fingers touched its cold frame.
Earlier in the living room, he had laughed and bantered with his son, but from the moment he learned that an overseas organization had its sights on his son, the sense of danger in his heart had never diminished.
The next day.
For once, Fang Yuan carried a schoolbag to school, with that hot potato inside it.
Before morning reading began, Fang Yuan paid a visit to the school library.
He accidentally knocked apart one of the library's geometric sculptures.
So he bought a tube of strong glue to stick the sculpture back together.
These geometric sculptures came in a complete set: a cube, a sphere, a cylinder, and a cone.
They were called sculptures, but they were actually plastic objects displayed as decorations in the library lobby.
The one Fang Yuan was gluing together was the cone.
Han Youwei came to return a book, and when she entered the library lobby, she saw Fang Yuan gluing the geometric sculpture together.
"What are you doing?"
Fang Yuan pointed at the geometric sculpture on the table. "I knocked it apart. I have to hurry and glue it back together before a teacher notices."
"That thing sits on top of a cabinet without even getting dusted once a semester, and you somehow managed to knock it apart?" Han Youwei covered her mouth and giggled.
"Just my bad luck." Fang Yuan continued gluing the sculpture.
Han Youwei leaned closer and looked the cone up and down. "It isn't really damaged. The glue just came loose at the joint around the base. Once you glue it back together, it shouldn't show."
Well, of course. I pried it open with a knife.
Fang Yuan made that wry remark to himself, applied the last bit of glue, pressed it firmly shut, and put it back on the cabinet.
"All fixed. Heaven knows, earth knows, you know, and I know. If a teacher finds out, it'll definitely mean you snitched."
Han Youwei covered her mouth and laughed. "I don't have that much time on my hands. I'm going to return my book. No more nonsense with you."
"Then I'll head back to class." Fang Yuan picked up his schoolbag, slung it onto his back, waved to her, and headed out.
As he walked out of the library, he glanced back at the cone sculpture, still a little nervous.
Because the triangular star core was now hidden inside the cone, and he didn't know whether anyone would discover this secret in the future.
