Super soldiers, the core of a combat squad
The moment the back of his hand touched the table, Li Weilian's eyes went wide, his face filled with shock.
A moment later, that shock gradually gave way to a dark expression.
Li Weilian had never expected to lose after giving it everything he had.
He glared at Fang Yuan, his face full of anger.
Fang Yuan simply maintained his harmless smile and waited for the Rage Points to come in.
Sure enough, after three seconds under Li Weilian's "furious glare," his Rage Points increased by 50.
A deathly silence filled the martial arts lecture hall, because no one had thought Li Weilian would lose.
Everyone was stunned by the unexpected result.
Li Weilian stood there with an extremely ugly expression.
He had never imagined that one day, he would be defeated by someone whose martial arts grades ranked near the bottom.
Although this had not been a formal match, defeat in any form was intolerable to him.
If this had been actual combat, he could have crushed the hateful bastard in front of him a hundred times over.
Yet he had ended up losing this contest of pure strength.
Losing to weak trash like this only made him angrier.
He reached for the white glove on his right hand, intending to pull it off and throw it away.
His original plan had been to pull off the glove after winning and toss it into the trash.
Only now, things had not followed the script he had envisioned.
Seeing him take off his glove, Fang Yuan asked with a smile, "Are you planning to take that glove off and throw it in the trash?"
With his intentions exposed, Li Weilian's expression darkened further. His eyes narrowed, but he said nothing.
Fang Yuan continued, "If you'd won just now, taking off your glove and tossing it in the trash would've been such a smooth way to humiliate someone while still looking like a gentleman. Unfortunately, in the world of Awakened, weakness is the original sin. Now, if you take off your glove and throw it away, you'll just look like a sore loser lashing out in humiliation."
"You!" Li Weilian pointed at Fang Yuan, his eyes practically spitting fire.
Seeing another 50 Rage Points come in, Fang Yuan smiled even more brightly.
With such a source of rage right in front of him, how could he let it go so easily?
Fang Yuan took out a tissue, carefully wiped his right hand clean, then tossed the tissue into the trash.
This had originally been Li Weilian's script, but Fang Yuan had used it instead.
Li Weilian nearly exploded with rage. He suddenly clenched his right fist, and a ball of flame ignited with a whoosh, burning the white glove to ashes. "Fang Yuan, I challenge you to a duel!" he shouted furiously.
His Rage Points increased by another 50, bringing the total to 445, even after he had just spent 100 points to increase his strength by one.
What a bumper harvest.
Just as Li Weilian was about to lose control.
A deep, powerful voice came from outside the lecture hall. "Who wants a duel? Come try me!"
Everyone turned toward the voice and saw the homeroom teachers of Classes One and Two entering the lecture hall with an Awakened dressed in special operations camouflage.
The speaker was the Awakened in special operations camouflage.
He had a typical military buzz cut, a well-proportioned build, an angular face, and eyes as sharp as blades.
This was probably the school's newly hired martial arts instructor.
The instant Fang Yuan saw him, he sensed a cold, murderous aura.
His first impression was that this man had definitely killed before. Those eyes were like a ferocious predator's.
Seeing how noisy the students of both classes were, Guo Songtao barked, "The bell rang ages ago! What's all this racket? Fall in!"
The students of both classes hurried into motion, forming two lines by class.
Fang Yuan turned to return to Class Two's line.
"Stop!"
Li Weilian suddenly reached out with his flaming hand to grab Fang Yuan.
But the instant he reached out, a hand clamped around his wrist.
The person who had intervened was none other than the new martial arts instructor.
"Don't do anything dangerous like that during class. This is your first warning. There had better not be a next time, or you'll regret it," the new instructor said coldly.
"Who the hell are you to meddle in my business?" Li Weilian snorted, showing him no respect whatsoever.
Class One's homeroom teacher hurriedly spoke up. "Li Weilian, this is the new martial arts instructor. Watch your attitude. You wouldn't want your father to hear any unfavorable comments, would you?"
Only then did Li Weilian calm down. He shook off the new instructor's hand, straightened his clothes, and returned to the middle of Class One's line.
The students of Class One could all feel the anger radiating from Li Weilian, so they kept their distance without being told.
"All right, this is Instructor Wei, your new instructor. Starting this semester, Instructor Wei will be teaching your martial arts classes."
After introducing the new martial arts instructor, the two homeroom teachers left.
The new instructor stood in front of the two lines, sweeping his hawklike gaze over every student present before he began to speak.
"My name is Wei Hailong. Before coming to Donghai No. 1 High School, I served in the Huaxia Navy Landing Operations Force. Starting today, I'm responsible for your martial arts classes. I'm a soldier, and the military way is all I know. So from today onward, your martial arts classes will be military training!"
As Fang Yuan listened to the new instructor introduce himself, he discovered that, like Old Fang, the man had come from the navy's landing operations force.
Of course, judging by his age, the new instructor was probably in his early thirties.
Fang Zhenguo had left the service twenty years ago. Although they had served in the same unit, they had served at different times and certainly would not know each other.
Wei Hailong had a buzz cut and wore special operations camouflage. His muscles were not especially bulging, but they were extremely solid.
And one look at his build made it clear that once he made a move, he would be as swift and fierce as lightning.
"In our first lesson, I'll teach you the basic body-tempering method. Before we begin, we first need to clarify the human body's four attributes. Who can tell me how much you know about them?" Wei Hailong quickly settled into his role as instructor.
"The four attributes are strength, agility, constitution, and spirit," a student immediately volunteered.
"Correct. These four attributes represent a person's physical capabilities. They are the foundation of combat power. If these four attributes are too low, your abilities won't be effective, no matter how powerful they are."
Wei Hailong paced back and forth before the two classes. His gaze fell on Wu Kui, who had the biggest muscles, and he ordered, "State your four attributes."
Wu Kui stood straight and answered confidently, "Strength 15, agility 11, constitution 12, spirit 12."
"What's your goal?" Wei Hailong asked.
"To become the most perfect super soldier of the Star Power era!" Wu Kui declared loudly.
"You can't become a super soldier. Stick to the path of a strength-type Awakened." Wei Hailong doused his enthusiasm with cold water.
"Why?" Wu Kui sounded somewhat unconvinced.
"In the military, a so-called super soldier is the core of a combat squad. Every super soldier the military trains has two strong attributes. Awakened with only one strong attribute cannot serve as the core. Their role can only be secondary offense or support," Wei Hailong answered.
"Why can't an Awakened with one strong attribute serve as the core?"
"Because an Awakened with one strong attribute has overly obvious weaknesses. If a combat squad makes one of them its core, the whole squad can easily be wiped out when it encounters a difficult opponent. A super soldier with two strong attributes is the cornerstone of a combat squad."
Wei Hailong paused, then continued, "Let me give you an example. Take a strength-type Awakened like you. Suppose a combat squad was built around you. As its main attacker, you'd have enough strength, but not enough speed. If you encountered a powerful sniper-type opponent who could move extremely fast, you wouldn't be able to catch them or escape. The result would be your entire squad getting wiped out by that one opponent."
