Star Power Storage Device
The person Fang Yuan had thought of was Wei Hailong.
On the day the two cats were discovered to have mutated, he had appeared at the hospital and entered the inpatient ward.
Moreover, the time he had started at the school as the new martial arts instructor coincided exactly with the arrival of the Spear of God members in Donghai City.
If Wei Hailong was a member of the Spear of God, then everything made sense.
He had not come to the hospital that day to have a wound treated at all, but to administer an awakening inducer.
Or perhaps he had already administered the awakening inducer earlier and had come that day to check the results.
Because Fang Xiaozhu had shared her food with the two cats, she had ingested less than expected, and the awakening inducer had taken effect a little later than expected.
After leaving Professor Liang's office, Fang Yuan returned to the inpatient ward.
Fang Zhenguo was sitting on a bench in the corridor, his fingers unconsciously moving as if he wanted a cigarette.
However, he had quit smoking after Xiaozhu joined the family, nearly ten years ago.
Fang Yuan sat beside him and glanced at Old Fang's somewhat plump belly. It was hard to imagine this fellow had once made it through a hail of bullets.
After what had happened at the T-shaped Bridge warehouse.
Fang Yuan knew Old Fang still had a few tricks up his sleeve, so he said quietly, "Xiaozhu probably ingested the awakening inducer mixed into her food."
"Are you sure?"
"Those two cats also mutated because of the awakening inducer. Xiaozhu says she wants fish every day, but she gives all her fish to those two cats," Fang Yuan briefly explained.
Fang Zhenguo pondered this and said, "Then starting today, I'll stay at the hospital. Whether it's medicine or food, I'll keep an eye on it."
"Right now, I suspect the Spear of God was behind this."
"Those people have no reason to hurt Xiaozhu." Fang Zhenguo frowned.
"They probably suspect Xiaozhu absorbed the energy inside the Triangular Star Core, so they want to use the drug to induce her awakening and determine whether she possesses the ability stored inside it," Fang Yuan said, voicing his guess.
Although awakening inducers had a high mortality rate, mutant creature traffickers had driven their prices sky-high.
Even on the black market, a single dose cost two hundred thousand.
No one would throw around something worth two hundred thousand for no reason.
So whoever had given Fang Xiaozhu the awakening inducer definitely had a purpose.
And only the Spear of God had a motive to do this.
"Last time, I asked you to look into our new martial arts instructor. Did you find anything?" Fang Yuan asked, changing the subject.
"My old navy buddy hasn't called me back yet. I'll call him again tonight." Fang Zhenguo looked out the window and saw that it was still early.
"Then I'll head back to school."
After leaving the hospital, Fang Yuan spotted a roadside stall selling glasses, hats, and lighters.
After a moment's thought, he walked over and bought a pair of sunglasses.
When he returned to school, classes had not started yet.
They had martial arts that afternoon.
Fang Yuan went straight to the large martial arts classroom.
When he reached the doorway, he found Wei Hailong already seated beside the teacher's desk, looking up information on a computer.
Fang Yuan glanced at the screen and vaguely made out the words "awakening inducer."
The instant he saw those words, his heart lurched.
Fang Yuan took a deep breath, forced himself to stay calm, and walked over, greeting him with a smile. "You're here early, Instructor."
Wei Hailong closed the webpage and turned to answer, "I had nowhere to go after lunch, so I came here to rest for half an hour."
As class time approached.
Students from Classes One and Two filed into the classroom, and martial arts class began.
Throughout the three martial arts periods, Fang Yuan kept observing Wei Hailong in secret.
He considered his options.
The last time he had copied "Advanced Spirit Enhancement," he had examined Wei Hailong's information while his spirit was enhanced.
That time, Wei Hailong's attribute panel had shown him to be a Lv. 3 Awakener with a strength of 30. His agility had been impossible to see at all; the Iris Data had displayed a question mark.
Based on his Star Power level, Fang Yuan could roughly guess that his agility exceeded 35, probably somewhere between 35 and 39.
That was because the agility limit for a Lv. 3 Awakener was 39.
Fang Yuan glanced at his own attribute panel.
Attributes: Strength 23, Agility 24, Physique 15, Spirit 20 Rage Points: 920
Last time, at the T-shaped Bridge warehouse, he had killed someone for the first time and earned a large sum of Rage Points, which he had yet to spend.
After careful consideration, Fang Yuan began increasing his attributes.
First, he spent 600 Rage Points to raise his agility to 30.
Then he spent another 300 Rage Points to raise his strength to 26.
His four attributes became: Strength 26, Agility 30, Physique 15, Spirit 20.
For the rest of martial arts class, Fang Yuan trained alone, familiarizing himself with his increased strength and agility.
Ever since his strength and agility had gone off the charts.
Fang Yuan had noticed that his physique improved much faster when he exercised.
After discovering this phenomenon, Fang Yuan had made a special trip to the library to look up information.
He had also found the reason his physique was improving faster.
The reason was actually simple. When Awakeners exercised, they did not improve just a single attribute.
For example, barbell bench presses.
Barbell bench presses were primarily used to train strength, but as strength increased, muscles developed as well.
And increased muscle also improved physique.
Running was the same.
Running was actually a comprehensive form of exercise that could improve agility and leg strength, as well as physique.
When strength and agility were only at 10, running speed was slow, and one might only cover a dozen or so kilometers in an hour.
That level of training intensity offered fairly average improvements to physique.
When strength and agility reached 30, running speed tripled, allowing someone to cover forty or fifty kilometers in an hour.
At that level of training intensity, physique naturally improved faster.
Fang Yuan's strength and agility were now both off the charts, greatly boosting the effectiveness of his physique training.
During martial arts class, Fang Yuan put all his effort into training his physique and raised the attribute straight to 16.
His four attributes finally settled at: Strength 26, Agility 30, Physique 16, Spirit 20.
After martial arts class ended.
Han Youwei said goodbye to her classmates and headed to the library with her textbooks in her arms.
Fang Yuan caught up and took the initiative to ask, "I'd like to ask you a favor. Would that be okay?"
Han Youwei was a little surprised.
In all the time they had known each other, this was the first time she had heard Fang Yuan take the initiative to ask for help.
"What is it? Tell me. As long as it's something I can help with."
"Last semester, I heard from our classmates that your family has a Star Power storage device that can store Awakeners' abilities. Is that right?" Fang Yuan asked.
"Yes, I even brought it to school before. But it isn't very practical. It's actually pretty much like a Star Power battery, except it has an extra function: it can store Star Power that's been converted by a Superpower Trait. Put simply, it stores an Awakener's ability inside. But the technology isn't mature yet, and it stores far less Star Power than a Star Power battery, so it isn't much use. It's basically a toy," Han Youwei explained.
"Could you lend it to me?" Fang Yuan asked.
"Sure. If you want it, I'll bring it to school for you tomorrow," Han Youwei agreed.
"I need it right now."
"Well..."
"I'll treat you to dinner." Fang Yuan gave her no chance to refuse.
"All right, I'll call the driver and have him bring it over. Um... did you mean it about dinner?" Han Youwei was a little pleasantly surprised.
