Chapter Summaries

Jiang Jie cleared Karazhan’s lower tower and found the Maiden of Virtue, a legendary Stone Giant who wielded the Holy Light. After recognizing Anveena’s higher Titan authority, the Maiden of Virtue submitted to them, giving Jiang Jie another legendary subordinate.

• Barnes rewarded Jiang Jie with the Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle after his performance, and Jiang Jie spared him rather than risk Karazhan’s defenses.
• Jiang Jie and Pyralis fought through the undead in the lower tower, strengthening Pyralis as they advanced.
• Xiao Feng guided Jiang Jie to a reception hall where the Maiden of Virtue battled elite ghosts with Holy Light.
• Jiang Jie brought Anveena in Titan Keeper form to confront the Maiden of Virtue, whose gaze Anveena blocked with the Prehistoric Staff.

Jiang Jie and his companions cleared the lower banquet hall of undead, then captured the bone dragon Nightbane with Apocalypse. He left Nightbane waiting at Karazhan’s Master’s Terrace and set out with Anveena and the Maiden of Virtue to find Meryl and Med’an.

• The Maiden of Virtue told Jiang Jie how she had served Tyr, guarded his tomb, and eventually awakened in Karazhan.

Meryl used a battle against the Curator to teach Med'an how to fight amid arcane turbulence, then swiftly destroyed the Legendary construct. Med'an was stunned by the gulf between his own abilities and Meryl’s, and Meryl took him onward to the library to find spellbooks.

• Meryl told Med'an to watch from a safe distance as he explained how to counter Mana Aberrations, Arcane Anomalies, and Siphoners.
• Meryl swiftly defeated hundreds of the arcane creatures and calmed the turbulent magic while advancing toward the Curator.
• Meryl suppressed the Curator, blasted him with a huge fireball, froze him, and took his three arcane gems, destroying the construct.
• Med'an realized how far he was from Meryl’s strength, and Meryl led him toward the library to find spellbooks.

Meryl made Med'an face the library’s guardians as his graduation test, then told him he had to leave and learn about his origins. After Med'an defeated the guardians, Meryl recognized him as a true mage and they began looking for books.

• Meryl showed Med'an Karazhan’s enormous library and left its Arcane Protectors and Mana Feeders for him to fight as his graduation exam.
• Meryl told Med'an that his apprenticeship was over and that he should have a life of his own and learn where he came from.
• Upset by the prospect of leaving Meryl, Med'an charged into the library and fought the guardians with his battle-axe and magic.
• Meryl watched Med'an fight alongside Garona, while Jiang Jie arrived and encouraged Anveena to study his technique.
• After ten minutes, Med'an defeated the guardians, and Meryl declared him a true mage before they began searching for books.

Jiang Jie searched Karazhan’s library for books by and about Aegwynn and Medivh while planning to purify the tower and turn it into a center of magical learning. Meryl agreed to help if Jiang Jie could persuade Aegwynn, and Anveena discovered a book titled “Song of Aegwynn.”

• Jiang Jie found Aegwynn’s handwritten geography book, which described the Tomb of Sargeras on the Broken Isles.
• Jiang Jie asked Xiao Feng to locate books by Aegwynn and Medivh and books about them, while Anveena began breaking the books’ protective spells.

As Meryl prepared the spell, Anveena sensed demons, and Jiang Jie and Med'an went upstairs to confront them.

Jiang Jie, Med'an, and Garona entered a hidden storeroom filled with demons and dangerous magical experiments. Med'an was badly outmatched by the satyr Terestian Illhoof, leaving Jiang Jie to face the boss-level demon.

• Med'an killed the demons and two Orc Warlocks before Jiang Jie could question them about where they came from.
• Med'an rushed into the secret passage, and Garona followed him; Jiang Jie and Anveena came after them.
• They found a storeroom crowded with fiendish imps, toxic fumes, and evidence of sinister experiments.

Jiang Jie destroyed Illhoof and the demonic imps in Karazhan, then found a spatial ring hidden in Illhoof’s ashes. The ring contained Illhoof’s possessions, including spellcasting materials, magic books, equipment, and a staff.

• Anveena protected herself and Med'an while Jiang Jie unleashed Strom'kar’s Shadowflame, and Pyralis burned away the demonic imps and summoning arrays.
• Jiang Jie charged Illhoof and killed him by piercing his heart with the divine sword and releasing sword qi inside his body.
• Pyralis devoured Illhoof’s soul, and Jiang Jie compared the satyr unfavorably to Balnazzar while recognizing Garona’s stealth and deadly daggers.
• Med'an asked Jiang Jie to teach him, but Jiang Jie told him to study magic and turned his attention to looting.
• Jiang Jie found the Healer's Ring of Mending buried in Illhoof’s ashes and discovered that it contained Illhoof’s possessions.

Jiang Jie purified Illhoof’s staff and gave it to Med’an, then led him to meet a mysterious echo created by Medivh’s longing. Jiang Jie revealed that the echo was Med’an Aran, Medivh’s father, and told Med’an to show him respect.

• Jiang Jie purified Illhoof’s bramble staff with nature energy, restoring it and reshaping its appearance to resemble the Chicken Leg Staff.
• Jiang Jie gave the staff and ring to Med’an, who happily tested the staff and learned it could withstand being used as a weapon.

Med'an learned that Aran was his surname as Jiang Jie led him and Meryl into Medivh’s warded library. There they encountered an echo of Nielas Aran, whose memories of Meryl seemed genuine until hearing Aegwynn’s name drove him into a violent frenzy.

• Med'an asked whether Aran was his surname, and Jiang Jie urged him to meet the figure in the sealed room.
• Meryl opened the warded library door, and Jiang Jie and Med'an followed him inside.

• Nielas’s eight illusions overwhelmed the room with spells, turning Med’an into a sheep and trapping the others.
• Meryl sent Med’an outside and told Jiang Jie and Anveena to leave the fight to him; a minute later, Nielas had vanished and Meryl held Medivh’s diary.

Aegwynn slaughtered the demons gathering in Dragonblight and summoned the Dragonflights to join the battle. As the dragons attacked, she unleashed Aluneth's power in a massive spell that erased more than three thousand demons, leaving Jiang Jie astonished by her near-divine strength.

• Aegwynn killed hundreds of attacking demons with effortless spells, then destroyed the fleeing survivors.
• Jiang Jie saw thousands more demons gathering, including Legendary commanders, while a demon leader threatened Aegwynn and revealed that Sargeras had come to the land.

• Xiao Feng told Jiang Jie that Sargeras could rival Martial Arts Myths and that the gaming pod was meant to cultivate Jiang Jie into one.

Aegwynn tried to stop Sargeras’s avatar, but Aluneth refused to lend her power, forcing her to take up Atiesh. At the same time, the Chicken Leg Staff fragments Jiang Jie carried resonated with Atiesh, and Sargeras summoned a demon armed with the legendary swords Andonisus to attack Jiang Jie and his companions.

• Aegwynn began an unprecedented spell to fight Sargeras’s avatar, but Aluneth shut herself away and refused to help.
• Aegwynn put away the Guardian’s Staff and took out Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian, to draw on its accumulated power.
• Jiang Jie sensed the Chicken Leg Staff fragments resonating with Atiesh and took the fragments out of his platinum ring.
• Sargeras’s power formed a demon from the staff fragments, then summoned Andonisus, Reaper of Souls, and gave the swords to it.
• Jiang Jie realized Sargeras had sent the demon to kill him, Anveena, and Med’an, and ordered Anveena to merge.

Jiang Jie defeated the incomplete demon Atiesh while Aegwynn brought down Sargeras’s avatar and the Chicken Leg Staff’s shaft was restored. Back in the library, Jiang Jie offered the staff to Med’an and asked him to decide whether he would take responsibility for it.

• Anveena joined Jiang Jie, who defeated the incomplete Atiesh with Strom’kar, but the two divine swords vanished with the demon.
• Aegwynn struck Sargeras’s avatar with the Chicken Leg Staff, causing it to fall, and then used magic to reassemble the staff’s forty-one fragments.
• Jiang Jie returned to the library with the restored staff shaft and realized that Sargeras and Aegwynn had noticed him.
• Jiang Jie told Meryl he planned to retrieve the staff’s head from Kel’Thuzad and offered the staff to Med’an.

Jiang Jie and his companions climbed through Karazhan, where Med'an and Anveena fought its Spell Shades and the group encountered hostile Ethereal thieves. After Meryl gave up trying to capture an Ethereal, they entered another room and found an enormous, illusory blue dragon.

• Jiang Jie offered Med'an the Chicken Leg Staff, but Med'an hesitated because Meryl opposed the gift.
• Jiang Jie and the others continued up Karazhan, discovering its vast, magically distorted library and the dangerous Spell Shades within.
• Meryl made Med'an's fight against the Spell Shades part of his mage-apprentice graduation examination, and Jiang Jie had Anveena help him.
• The group encountered Ethereals who had looted the library's books, and the Ethereals attacked them when Jiang Jie tried to approach them.
• Meryl joined the fight to capture an Ethereal for study, but the Ethereals refused to surrender, so he gave up.

Jiang Jie and his companions defeated Netherspite in Medivh’s Observatory and claimed the dragon’s corpse, but Jiang Jie could not figure out how to operate the telescope. They continued through Karazhan and reached an enormous hall.

• Jiang Jie found Netherspite guarding Medivh’s Observatory and recognized the telescope as a possible way to observe the Twisting Nether and locate Draenor.
• Netherspite attacked, and Jiang Jie identified the effects of its red, green, and blue beams as the group moved to block them.
• Jiang Jie and his companions killed Netherspite after a five-minute battle, and Jiang Jie claimed its valuable dragon corpse.
• Jiang Jie tried to operate the telescope but could not work out how to use it.
• Jiang Jie and his companions killed dozens of Ethereals along the way and reached an enormous hall.
