Background / History

Separation from Song Hengzhe

Shang Shunan held a place in Song Hengzhe’s heart long before their eventual reunion. The Song Family patriarch opposed their relationship and pressured Song Hengzhe into compromising by making him fear for Shunan’s safety. The patriarch later recalled this episode while attempting to control Song Yanqing in a similar manner 125.

By the riding-grounds outing, Shunan still loved someone but had not confessed. Even Shang Shujue’s joking threat that he would remain single for life unsettled him: he did not want to risk being rejected by the person he loved 113.

Accepting Shang Shujue

When Shang Shujue recovered in the hospital, Shunan volunteered to buy food suitable for his condition. After Shujue returned home, Shunan interrupted his own work to suggest a horseback-riding outing when his younger brother became bored 111 112.

Although the family had learned that the Shujue before them came from another world, Shunan’s memories of his little brother as a toddler helped him accept him without reservation. Their teasing exchanges on the drive to the riding grounds then eased the remaining unfamiliarity between them 112 113.

At the grounds, Shunan raced Shujue while Shang Shuchen arranged to record them with a drone. Shujue won, and Shunan offered him a treasure from his collection room. Shujue declined the treasure and requested gossip instead; Shunan refused that alternative but paid him a cash reward. Later, Shunan took Shujue, Wen Shaojie, and Xia Dongyuan to buy barbecue ingredients 118 119.

Hospital Reunion

When Shujue teleported away to rescue Song Yanqing, Shunan waited alone at the family home’s entrance. He wanted to keep his brother from being startled by the crowd that had gathered—and spare him the possible expense of erasing their memories. His anxiety grew until Shujue called to report that Song Yanqing and Song Hengzhe were badly injured 129.

Shunan rushed to the family hospital, found Song Hengzhe, and arranged a VIP room for him. When Hengzhe awakened and called him “A-Nan,” Shunan immediately supported him, protected his wound with a pillow, and held his hand 130.

During Shujue’s three-day unconsciousness, Shunan took Hengzhe home so they could resolve their relationship privately. When they next appeared at the hospital, they were openly together. Shang Yuanzhen accepted his sons’ choices, and Shang Shuyu addressed Hengzhe as her “Sister-in-law” 130 131.

Later Appearances

Shunan later watched Shujue’s dating-show livestream alongside Song Hengzhe and Song Yanqing. He defended Shujue’s talkative nature, teased the more reserved Song brothers, and reconciled with an irritated Hengzhe through affectionate bickering and a kiss 154.

After Shujue and Song Yanqing finished their mission-world travels, they reunited with Shunan, Hengzhe, and Shang Shuchen in the Quick Transmigration Bureau’s main world 232.

Appearance

• Glasses: He adjusts them while working at home and during the riding-grounds outing 112 113.
• Casual clothing: He changes out of his work-at-home attire before accompanying Shujue horseback riding 112.

Personality

Shunan initially strikes Shujue as a cold, aloof CEO, but proves to be a sharp-tongued conversationalist who can outtalk him. He dismantles Shujue’s complaints about his hairstyle and remains thoroughly unimpressed by a threat to have his allowance cut—Shunan himself controls the family’s finances. Their banter makes Shujue comfortable enough to stop carefully maintaining a persona around him 113.

His teasing coexists with considerable affection. He ruffles his younger brothers’ hair, hugs them both when they wait for him, and briefly feels left out when Shuchen leads Shujue away without him. He also notices others’ embarrassment: during the gossip session, he suggests giving the guests horse catalogs so they have something to occupy themselves with and hide behind 113 115.

Shunan respects private eccentricities even when he does not understand them, responding to Xia Dongyuan’s unusual habits without joining the others’ ridicule. His own secrets are another matter: he privately worries that Shujue’s gossip gathering might expose him and refuses to offer personal gossip as a racing prize 115 116 119.
