Background / History

Origins and imprisonment

Su Xiuyi was born and raised in Southern Heaven Academy. Wang Lin raised him as a son and taught him, while his exceptional talent made him Great Zhou’s top scholar. The soul inhabiting his body is that of a transmigrator, though the original owner’s remaining memories gradually influenced his attachment to the Great Zhou Imperial Clan 1 11 34 438.

His original body was Su Shenghuang’s only son and the rightful crown prince of Great Zhou. He initially knew nothing of this lineage. Su Tianlong’s hostility toward him was therefore difficult for him to understand until revelations about his origins exposed the political motive behind his persecution 58 73 282.

The Heavenly Fox Saintess entered Great Zhou to investigate his identity, and the two developed feelings for each other. Su Tianlong exploited their bond, anticipating that Su Xiuyi would try to free her. Wang Lin later killed a Silver Wolf demon king and exchanged its head for Su Xiuyi’s life, but Su Xiuyi was still imprisoned in the cursed Myriad Text Academy 73.

Shen Dong destroyed his cultivation and Divine Runes, wrote On Su Xiuyi’s Ten Great Crimes, and took his Top Scholar Literary Rank. The accusations discredited both Su Xiuyi and Wang Lin, leaving the Literary Court increasingly isolated 3 5.

Cultivation in the Myriad Text Academy

The academy’s curse, intended to make his imprisonment fatal, instead became a resource. After gaining the Curse Divine Rune, Su Xiuyi absorbed its leaking willpower and no longer feared the curse-tainted creatures within the grounds. Repeatable sign-in locations supplied techniques, Will Characters, and essence blood for his recovery 3 4.

He deliberately avoided attention and asked Tiezhu to visit less often. Over three years, his existence faded from public memory while he reached Skysoar. When danger threatened Wang Lin and Tiezhu, however, he used a clone to conceal his departure and intervened as Southern Heaven Academy’s unidentified disciple 4 11 14.

Hidden defender of the academy

Despite the academy’s role in his disgrace, Su Xiuyi continued protecting it. He destroyed seven Mountainsea demons, opposed the Silver Wolf Clan, and intervened against the Blood Barbarian Demon Soul. His attachment rested on Wang Lin, his birthplace, and the human disciples still cultivating there—not on forgiveness for its leadership 20 27 30 34 35.

He also cultivated the Myriad Text Academy’s reputation as a deathtrap. By allowing intruders’ deaths to reinforce fear of the curse, he discouraged further investigations and preserved his secluded cultivation ground 39 41.

Conflict with Su Tianlong

Su Tianlong’s faction repeatedly used people Su Xiuyi cared about to force him into the open. Su Xiuyi recognized one attack on academy disciples as an overt trap: powerful observers stood aside while the disciples died, waiting for him to intervene 43 46.

During the public confrontation, the academy disciples learned that the imperial family and Ji Zhan—not Su Xiuyi—had colluded with the Heavenly Demon Sect. Su Xiuyi then drew on the Myriad Text Academy to manifest more than a hundred avatars against the emperor. He burned essence blood and detonated Will Character avatars during the battle, after which many believed him dead 66 68 69 147.

He survived and rebuilt with the Undying Heavenly Scripture. Later, while fighting the Shadow King, he sealed the battlefield, destroyed the Demon-Devouring Arrow, and seized imperial fortune that accelerated his cultivation 74 109.

Guardian of Great Zhou and the Human Realm

After Hu Qingyun’s capture, Su Xiuyi revealed himself to Su Yun and promised to help him become Human Emperor. His subsequent protection allowed Su Yun to govern and restrain Great Zhou’s rival powers while Su Xiuyi continued cultivating 151 203.

Eighty years after entering the Myriad Text Academy, Su Xiuyi reached Creation and emerged to protect Su Yun from the Slaughter Dao Sect master. He removed his golden mask before the gathered powers, revealing that Great Zhou’s mysterious guardian was the supposedly dead Su Xiuyi 281 282.

His later campaigns included the destruction of eight great Saint Clans and attacks on the Immortal Race. He concealed his cultivation, substituted Spirit Character incarnations for his true body, and sought to turn hostility between the Immortal and God races to humanity’s advantage 326 343 345 450.

Xuantian World and Sword Gate

Arrival in the Xuantian World ended the relative security of his lower-realm dominance. Although his Divine Runes helped him adapt, he was forced to flee a beast far stronger than the Azure Luan he had just killed 489.

He gathered followers, established a faction, and opened his Inner World with the assistance of Han Shuang and two others. He later approached Sword Gate under the name Su Yi, became its Ninth True Disciple, and occupied Lutian Peak, a position associated with succession to the gate master 494 509 510 519 522.

The Extreme Dao Heavenly Stele exposed his real name. Rival true disciples increasingly treated him as their chief obstacle to leadership, while Luo Yiyi chose to follow him. When hundreds of Sword Gate members died protecting him, their sacrifice deeply affected him; he vowed that Sword Gate would endure as long as he lived 535 540 545 595 596.

Imperial Su Clan and later conflicts

Su Xiuyi’s branch was the Imperial Su Clan’s true direct line, threatening the position held by Su Ming’s branch. Su Wu consequently tried to arrange his death in the True Dragon Nest, where cultivation restrictions seemed to offer an opportunity to eliminate him 670.

His return at perfection-stage Demigod made him the leading candidate for future clan head, although an ancestor from Su Ming’s branch objected. After becoming a God, he claimed the Shenghuang Sword and attacked the Sword Clan, which had previously endangered his father and was colluding with the Undying Blood Clan against the Su Clan 751 762.

Working with Zhan Wushuang, he later planned to seize Ancient Realms before stronger outsiders arrived. Beyond these campaigns, his conflicts extended to the Niyang Divine Dynasty and its upper-realm connections 781 829.

In the Divine Tomb, he spent half a year cultivating alongside Hu Qingyun. After obtaining the Eye of Chaos, he began breaking and collecting the tomb’s order, provoking its Heavenly Dao into manifesting. Their confrontation remained unresolved when the Heavenly Dao enclosed him in its Burial attack 917.

Appearance

Su Xiuyi has handsome, delicate features and a refined, scholarly bearing 281 750 806.

Personality

Su Xiuyi is cautious, patient, and willing to let others underestimate him. He prefers secluded cultivation to recognition, disguises his strength, and uses clones and traps to avoid unnecessary exposure. Even after becoming powerful, he remains wary of unfamiliar enemies and the hidden foundations of major factions 3 15 343 453 617.

His restraint has a clear limit: threats to people he values. Wang Lin’s treatment of him as a son, Tiezhu’s years of quiet support, and Sword Gate’s sacrifices all provoke responses that his ordinary detachment cannot suppress. He also rejects an ideal of invincibility that leaves him without a single familiar person beside him 10 11 211 595.

He is ruthless toward enemies and dislikes leaving future threats alive. He openly denies being a good person when considering the Immortal Race, yet elsewhere insists that he is a man rather than a demon and needs a reason to kill. His stated pursuit is freedom, with people standing above the Dao rather than being enslaved by it 417 450 545 580.
