Background / History
Opposition to Su Tianlong
Su Yun belongs to the imperial clan’s direct line, which suffered heavily before Su Tianlong seized the Human Emperor’s throne. He joins the human–Star Demon coalition opposing Su Tianlong and identifies Duanhun City as the likely decisive obstacle on the route to the capital. He also receives the thirty percent of Human Race fortune previously bestowed upon the Star Demon lineage 148.
After Hu Qingyun’s capture fractures the alliance, Su Yun persuades the remaining human forces to continue resisting and seek her rescue. His leadership wins the obedience of two human Sages and impresses Su Xiuyi, who decides to support him as Human Emperor. Su Xiuyi subsequently kills Su Tianlong and helps Su Yun secure the throne 151 177.
Securing the Throne
Su Yun’s early reign faces both external threats and interference from awakened imperial ancestors. When the Slaughter Blood Tiger demands three hundred thousand human souls, he requests Su Xiuyi’s intervention and issues an imperial decree rejecting intimidation of the Human Realm 164.
The ancient imperial relatives prove more interested in controlling him than defending humanity. Su Yun condemns their attempt to reduce him to a puppet and seeks Su Xiuyi’s assistance against them and the Fallen Fire Phoenix. After the phoenix’s death, he lifts the capital’s curfew in celebration and asks his teacher, Wu Yu, to command a new elite force loyal directly to him 177 179 185.
Great Shang and the Vassal Lords
The awakening of ancient powers leaves Su Yun unable to secure his newly unified realm through political authority alone. He turns to a dangerous secret cultivation art, accepting the personal cost because he already has a son who can inherit the throne 199.
Great Shang’s invasion forces him to evacuate the empress and princes and lead survivors toward the Southern Region. Su Xiuyi intercepts the pursuers and later reassures him that he will intervene when necessary 200 202.
During the following two years, Su Yun rebuilds the Night Watchers, nurtures experts, and uses Su Xiuyi’s reputation to extract resources from powerful lords and clans. Following the King of Yan’s rebellion, he attempts to dismantle the vassal system. Evidence of Qi Heng’s collusion with Great Shang leads him to execute the King of Qi and exterminate his family, provoking an alliance of vassal kings and an assassination plot backed by Demon God Mountain 203 210 211 212.
The attack on the capital exposes Su Yun’s concealed strength. After the feudal lords are swept away, he spends five years weakening the great families and expanding Martial Halls throughout the dynasty, eventually gaining control over every part of Great Zhou 214 217.
Defiance of Ancient Sects
When the Supreme One Sect sends Song Weiyi to kill him and install a subordinate ruler, Su Yun refuses to interrupt Su Xiuyi’s seclusion. He purges collaborators from the court and imperial clan, then personally confronts and kills Song Weiyi. Although injured, he conceals his condition to discourage an immediate counterattack 221 222 225.
Samsara Hall later offers him membership under threat of his clan’s destruction. He refuses and fights its elder, but the Xuanming Divine Turtle intercepts his attack and grievously wounds him. His desperate use of the Primordial Devil Scripture sacrifices a thousand years of lifespan and triggers potentially fatal backlash. Su Xiuyi destroys the attackers, suppresses the backlash, and transfers the turtle’s life force into him 236 237.
Consolidation and Su Xiuyi’s Accession
Su Yun arranges for Great Zhou to control nine-tenths of the Human Realm while deliberately leaving the fertile former Great Shang capital region outside its rule. His aim is to give rival factions territory over which they will compete rather than unite against Great Zhou 252.
Recognizing Su Xiuyi as the clan’s best hope of surviving the new age, Su Yun obtains the imperial elders’ approval to give him Great Zhou’s fortune. He later leads the request for Su Xiuyi to become Human Emperor. When Su Xiuyi withdraws from public affairs, Su Yun resumes temporary administration of the Human Race 270 271 272 284 316.
During the confrontation with Great Emperor Youming’s disciples, Su Yun refuses to surrender the dynasty’s fate and personally kills a Law Realm disciple. After Su Xiuyi defeats the subsequent attackers, Su Yun proposes distributing their law fragments to gifted fighters willing to enter the Ten Thousand Races Battlefield rather than simply rewarding the existing clan experts 396 397 398 399 418.
Return and Renewed Coronation
After the Great Zhou Imperial Clan is enslaved by the Ancient Human Emperor, Su Yun returns alongside Su Xiuyi. He kills the Ancient Emperor’s avatar with one sword and is welcomed back as emperor by the liberated population 576 579.
Su Xiuyi later formally appoints him Great Zhou Emperor and raises him to the peak Immortal King Realm. Su Yun completes his coronation despite Di Chen’s arrival, while his preparations expose and eliminate hidden traitors. Afterward, Su Xiuyi gives him the Immortal Slaying Sword and full authority over the Southern Heaven Land 620 623 624.
Appearance
- Imperial dress: Wears dragon robes when answering Su Xiuyi’s summons 262.
- Visible aging: Two years of governing leave signs of age on his face, making him appear as though a decade has passed 203.
- After the scripture’s backlash: His face becomes aged and his hair turns white. Su Xiuyi’s treatment restores his original facial appearance, though his hair requires longer to recover 237.
Personality
Su Yun treats rulership as a duty to humanity rather than merely a privilege of the Su family. He argues that Great Zhou belongs to the Human Race as well as its imperial clan and condemns ancestors who pursue private interests while refusing to confront external enemies. His willingness to sacrifice his lifespan reflects the same determination to preserve the dynasty and its people 179 199 225.
He is politically calculating and willing to use ruthless methods. He eliminates collaborators, dismantles hereditary power bases, and deliberately encourages competition among rival factions. He also tolerates rivalry between the palace attendants and Night Watchers when it strengthens his control without undermining the state 212 222 252.
His imperial confidence gives way to pronounced humility before Su Xiuyi. He worries about exhausting his protector’s goodwill and regards repeated requests for rescue as evidence of his own inadequacy. Nevertheless, he is willing to fight without assistance when disturbing Su Xiuyi’s cultivation would endanger the clan’s future 177 203 221.
Abilities & Skills
Primordial Devil Scripture
An incomplete ancient cultivation art that grants tremendous power at the expense of its practitioner’s life 213 225.
- Accelerated advancement: Consumes lifespan and vitality to increase cultivation rapidly 213.
- Devilish manifestation: Produces a figure capable of shattering and devouring Song Weiyi’s Life-Slaying Sword when empowered by providence 225.
- Sword manifestation: Uses Spirit Characters to form a longsword capable of meeting a Samsara Hall elder’s Five Elements Sword Body 236.
- Lifespan sacrifice: Burning lifespan more than doubles his strength during the Samsara Hall confrontation 236.
- Severe limitations: The incomplete scripture continuously consumes lifespan and can produce fatal backlash. Su Xiuyi saves him but does not teach him the complete version, judging that possessing it would attract enemies he could not resist 225 237.
Slaughter Sword Canon and Law of Slaughter
Su Yun combines the incomplete Slaughter Sword Canon with the Law of Slaughter in direct sword combat 397 398 399.
- Shatters Great Emperor Youming’s disciple’s sword and severs an arm before killing him with a subsequent attack 398 399.
- Uses a sword technique accompanied by the declaration, “Slay heaven, slay earth, slay myself!” 397.
- Suffers backlash because the canon is incomplete and his Law Realm breakthrough was forced 399.
Spirit Characters
- “Dark” Spirit Character: Swallows surrounding light and causes the Song Clan patriarch’s assassination strike to miss 214.
- Offensive combinations: Arranges Spirit Characters into the Primordial Devil Scripture’s manifested longsword 236.
Providence and Imperial Fortune
- Draws on providence to strengthen his devilish manifestation against Song Weiyi 225.
- Summons and transfers Great Zhou’s fortune to Su Xiuyi to support his cultivation 272.
- Receives the Imperial Dao presence that raises him to peak Immortal King and accompanies his renewed appointment as emperor 620.

- Centralization: Removes vassal lords and restricts the great families’ ability to influence the imperial court 217.
- Cultivator recruitment: Establishes Martial Halls to train talented young people and increase Great Zhou’s strength 217 234.
- Intelligence work: Rebuilds and deploys the Night Watchers to investigate hostile lords, Great Shang, and internal conspiracies 200 203 212.
- Counter-subversion: Prepares measures that expose and kill hidden traitors during his coronation 623.
