History
Ancient Supremacy and Decline
The Human Race once stood above the other races. Su Yun recounts a primordial legend in which humans suppressed and enslaved the ten thousand races; the Longevity Sword Venerable likewise acknowledges their former overlord status. Past human alliances often treated other races as expendable, leaving grievances that later drove some former allies into the opposing coalition 418 472 478.
Ancient records describe an invasion during a previous peak of Spiritual Qi recovery that nearly exterminated humanity. Most of its strongest experts fell in ancient times, leaving later generations unable to match the accumulated foundations of the God, Devil, and Immortal Races 294 372 418.
The King of Ten Thousand Battles proposes a separate explanation for humanity’s persecution: humans may descend from the master of the divine weapon that became the All Heavens and Ten Thousand Realms. He suspects their enemies fear that a human could reclaim it. This ancestry remains his hypothesis, not an established fact 459.
Division Within the Human Realm
The Human Realm initially contains two sharply different political systems. Great Zhou suppresses sectarian independence within its territory, while the Ten Thousand Sects Territory remains divided among competing factions. The Devil Race identifies this disunity as an opportunity to destroy humanity piecemeal 139 190.
Humans also face predation beyond their borders. Blood God, Thunder Eagle, and Python Race elites imprison humans and hunt them for entertainment. Su Xiuyi interrupts one such hunt, heals Wang Cheng, and kills the guards, prompting the captives to rally behind him 77 78.
Internal racial prejudice complicates resistance. Su Tianlong’s supporters regard nonhumans as inherently suspect, using the Bone Race Corpse Servant and the half-human, half-demon Zhou Yunlong as grounds to discredit Su Xiuyi’s group despite their defense of human soldiers 106 107 108.
Unification Under Great Zhou
After Hu Qingyun’s capture destabilizes the alliance opposing Su Tianlong, Su Xiuyi decides to support Su Yun as Human Emperor. Although willing to cooperate with demons, he insists that the Human Realm must remain under human leadership 151.
Su Yun’s government rejects the Slaughter Blood Tiger’s demand for three hundred thousand human souls and sends a decree condemning it to death. Su Xiuyi subsequently kills the Fallen Fire Phoenix, removing the immediate external threat and forcing the Blood Demons away from the border 165 185.
The myriad races then attack the Ten Thousand Sects Territory, destroying major factions including the Heavenly Dao Palace. Su Yun mobilizes Great Zhou’s armies to defend the territory despite its political separation from the dynasty. The surviving sect forces, including the Nine Netherworlds Hall, subsequently join Great Zhou, completing Su Yun’s unification of the Human Realm 191 196 199.
Su Xiuyi’s Human Emperorship
Successive Spiritual Qi resurgences awaken ancient powers and repeatedly threaten Great Zhou’s control. Su Xiuyi’s destruction of a powerful faction near Yama Hall creates a period of peaceful development, while the imperial clan reveals hidden experts whose avatars had occupied important positions in ancient sects 199 270 271.
Great Zhou’s forces begin carrying the war beyond the Human Realm. Under Zhou Hao, they destroy the Heavenly Wolf Realm Domain within a day while replicated doubles conceal their departure. Later, Su Yun asks Su Xiuyi to assume the Human Emperor’s throne because his own strength cannot restrain the awakening powers 274 284.
Su Xiuyi eliminates the Rain Clan leadership and its collaborators, then orders hostile factions to leave the Human Realm or submit. His stated purpose is to unite humanity before another large-scale invasion. After he establishes himself on the Ten Thousand Races Battlefield, the ancient human elders acknowledge him as their common lord, changing the destiny of the entire race 294 355.
Supremacy on the Ten Thousand Races Battlefield
Human forces initially struggle to retaliate against enemy realms because those races can seal their passages. Su Xiuyi’s spatial abilities overcome this obstacle, allowing him to carry an imprisoned troll into the Immortal Race’s realm and making closed borders an unreliable defense against humanity 334 335.
His victories also provoke stronger opposition. Following the defeat of Di Yi and the destruction of accompanying God Race experts, the God Race declares an irreconcilable war against humanity. Su Xiuyi responds by ordering troop training and the use of captured law fragments to build a broader base of powerful cultivators 372 373 380 381.
The God, Devil, and Immortal Races eventually organize a holy war. Their coalition collapses as races including the Heavenly Fire, Icefield, and Vermilion Bird Races pledge loyalty to Su Xiuyi. The Human Race Alliance’s victory restores humanity’s position as hegemon of the battlefield 477 478 482 483.
The Ancient Human Emperor and the Sacrificial Crisis
An ancient Human Emperor appears after Su Xiuyi has established human supremacy, claiming to have seized half the Immortal Race’s Great Dao power. His return exposes a competing faction within humanity that had secretly supported another emperor and now seeks to gather the race’s fortune 485 486 487.
When Su Xiuyi later returns, he reveals that the realms exist inside a divine weapon and that the supposed path to immortality through the Heavenly Gate conceals a sacrificial scheme. The ancient Human Emperor and other ancient rulers respond by abandoning their indirect plans in favor of slaughter intended to open the gate 578.
Su Xiuyi’s followers protect fleeing survivors, including members of races that had previously fought humanity. He also relocates humans into his Inner World, where their cultivation begins changing away from the incomplete Great Dao of their original realm 578 580.
Government and Military
| Institution / Territory | Function |
|---|---|
| Human Emperor | The position of humanity’s common ruler becomes tied to recognition, military achievements, and the race’s collective fortune. Su Xiuyi’s acknowledgment by the ancient elders marks a broader authority than rule over Great Zhou alone 355 485. |
| Great Zhou Dynasty | Unifies and administers the Human Realm. Su Yun continues governing while Su Xiuyi cultivates or guards the battlefield 284 328. |
| Ten Thousand Sects Territory | Formerly fragmented human territory whose surviving factions are incorporated into Great Zhou after the invasion 190 196. |
| Fierce Tiger Legion | A border army praised for defending the Human Realm; its troops number one hundred thousand during the battle involving Wang Po and Zhou Yunlong 106 107. |
| Night Watchmen and palace attendants | Conduct internal security and counterinfiltration operations, including tracking God Race agents and monitoring their passage into the Human Realm 270. |
| Human Emperor Hall | The principal gathering place for Su Xiuyi, ancient human experts, and allied leaders on the Ten Thousand Races Battlefield 355 356 394. |
| Battlefield garrison | Tens of millions of human cultivators guard the Ten Thousand Races Battlefield. Their base has a powerful protective formation, though Di Yi later breaches part of it 352 365. |
Abilities and Collective Strengths
Population and Cultivation
- Large population: Humans reproduce rapidly. Even with only a small fraction becoming cultivators, their cultivator numbers exceed those of many powerful races 187.
- Uneven individual advantages: Royal races compensate for smaller populations with exceptional talent and innate divine abilities. The Blood Barbarian Demon Race’s cultivation methods are specifically described as superior to ordinary human methods 54 187.
- Reviving bloodlines: Spiritual Qi recovery awakens human lineage bloodlines and produces new prodigies, but also allows stronger ancient enemies to emerge 328 390.
Will Characters
Human cultivators use manifested Will Characters to produce specialized effects. Zhan Wushuang manifests nine, while Su Xiuyi demonstrates combinations that restrain enemies, destroy objects, enhance movement, and heal injuries 12 78 81 88 90.
- Combat and restraint: Characters such as “Suppress” and “Restrict” can immobilize opponents 81.
- Restoration: Su Xiuyi uses a “life” character to dispel hostile power and repair Wang Cheng’s meridians 78.
- Limits: Powerful enemies can break their restraints; the Stone People Race’s ancestors overcome Su Xiuyi’s binding characters 88.
- Not exclusive to humans: Blood God and Blood Tiger Race cultivators also employ Will Characters 80 102.
Fortune and Providence
- Collective power: Human unity and recognition of a common emperor strengthen the race’s fortune and destiny 326 355.
- Ruler enhancement: Su Xiuyi receives humanity’s providence, while victories against other realms can supply additional fortune for his cultivation 274 314 470.
- Political consequences: Ancient factions fear that opposing an established Human Emperor will bring backlash from fortune 285.
- Contested resource: Awakened powers and rival emperors seek control of human fortune, making it a source of internal conflict as well as strength 390 486 487.
Expansion Through Captured Laws
- Law fragments: Su Xiuyi orders human experts to refine captured fragments to enter Law Realm 381.
- Recruitment: Su Yun proposes allocating fragments to gifted fighters willing to defend humanity rather than reserving them exclusively for the imperial clan 418.
- Independent development: Su Xiuyi eventually refuses to accompany every expedition, warning that permanent dependence on his protection will prevent human experts from tempering themselves 389.
Relations with Other Races
- Giant Race / Giant Clan — Long-standing allies. Su Xiuyi rescues them from Immortal Race attackers and leaves valuable law fragments with the alliance 356 477.
- Golden Behemoth Race — Loyal allies whose losses to the Dragon and White Tiger Races threaten alliance cohesion. Su Xiuyi promises retaliation and resources to rebuild their strength 356 357.
- Thunder God Race — After its submission, Su Xiuyi declares it a branch of the Human Race and offers its experts equal opportunities to serve Great Zhou 314.
- God, Devil, and Immortal Races — Principal rival powers that organize coalitions and a holy war against humanity. Their combined strength remains a major concern even after individual human victories 418 463 477 478.
- Dragon and White Tiger Races — Attack human allies to isolate humanity rather than confront it directly 356 358.
- Bone Race — Described by Su Tianlong’s Shadow Pavilion as humanity’s mortal enemy, although the Bone Race Corpse Servant fights to defend human soldiers 106 107.
- Former enemy survivors — Receive shelter in the human camp during the sacrificial slaughter. Su Xiuyi distinguishes their earlier struggle for their own races from the threat posed by enemies beyond their world 578 580.
Alliance Policy
- Earlier alliances: Human rulers often disregarded allied lives, using other races as cannon fodder or abandoning them during crises 478 486.
- Su Xiuyi’s reform: He publicly promises equal standing for allied races, rejects their use as expendable sacrifices, and tells human experts that the alliance belongs to all its members 478.
- Strategic importance: Ancient human experts acknowledge that humanity cannot withstand the ten thousand races alone if its powerful allies are destroyed 356.
