Background and History

Underground Palace and First Encounter

Blood Dog initially guards an underground palace beneath the Myriad Text Academy. Although only about the size of a basketball, he has already reached the Invincible Realm and kills an Invincible without allowing resistance. He warns Su Xiuyi away with barking and written threats, but Su Xiuyi immobilizes him and enters the palace 120.

Inside, Su Xiuyi discovers the Literary Saint’s ninth disciple and evidence of an experiment involving the Undying Blood Clan. Blood Dog reports that someone has stolen the secret art left in the disciple’s robes and points out damage to the palace 120.

Blood Dog later begs Su Xiuyi to save the man he calls “Dad.” Su Xiuyi finds that the man’s Sea of Will has become too fragile to safely erase the other soul within it: a direct struggle could destroy both souls 130.

Life Beside Su Xiuyi

Blood Dog becomes Su Xiuyi’s regular companion and helps with errands involving Tie Ling. He obtains a drop of her essence blood for divination, delivers the spirit jade ordering her departure from Great Zhou, and secretly follows her pursuers because he doubts Su Xiuyi’s prediction of her safety 130 131 132.

Initially proud of his noble bloodline, Blood Dog resists being treated as a pet. Unable to oppose Su Xiuyi, he gradually comes to enjoy being carried and petted. He also discovers that cultivating beside Su Xiuyi is more effective than cultivating alone 136 142 146.

Demon God Grotto-Heaven

For years, Blood Dog consumes essence blood from the great demons Su Xiuyi defeats in the Demon God Grotto-Heaven. By the fifth year, he has awakened a devouring talent; continued feeding restores bloodline memories and grants an ancient inheritance 217 233.

After ten years, he has reached the Grotto-Heaven Realm and repeatedly reforged his once-ordinary bloodline. The imprisoned demons hate him even more than Su Xiuyi because he consumes their essence blood and, in some cases, their source power 238.

Discovery of His True Nature

In God Burial Valley, Su Xiuyi learns from a black-robed expert’s memories that Blood Dog is a valuable target for powerful cultivators. His essence could serve as a medicinal ingredient for a pill capable of helping a peak Dao Venerable enter the Demigod realm 717.

Examination reveals that Blood Dog is not an ordinary living creature, but a Spirit of Rules containing a complete Demigod rule. Although sufficient resources could bring him to the Demigod realm, that would normally be his natural limit. He instead chooses to become the World Spirit of Su Xiuyi’s Inner World, believing that Su Xiuyi will eventually become a god and take him further 717.

The fusion strengthens both Blood Dog and the Inner World. The world expands enough to accommodate peak Dao Venerable experts, though Blood Dog’s possession of a Demigod rule does not yet make him a true Demigod 717.

Appearance

• Small form: Initially about the size of a basketball, with long blood-red fur nearly touching the ground and flecked golden eyes. Later appearances describe him as fist-sized or palm-sized, often resting in Su Xiuyi’s arms or on his shoulder 120 251 656 729.
• Battle form: Can become a colossal blood-colored beast. His true form stands a hundred meters tall during the confrontation with the four great factions 170.
• Distinguishing features: Long fur covers most of his body; his paws bear black scales, and his enlarged form has prominent fangs and blood-red eyes 144 170.
• Later beast form: Resembles an enormously magnified yak, with four feet likened to black dragon claws 725.
• Human transformation: Appears as a young man in a blood-red robe while fighting Su Ming’s imprint in the Sky Battlefield. Outside that battle, he continues favoring his dog form, even after reaching the Samsara God Realm 701 894.

Personality

Blood Dog is proud, overbearing, and quick to answer disrespect with violence. He initially insists that his bloodline is too noble for him to be a pet, dismisses hostile cultivators as insignificant, and openly challenges Su Ming’s grandfather despite having only recently entered the Dao Venerable Realm 146 203 405 729.

His confidence in Su Xiuyi develops from skepticism into almost blind admiration. Early on, he secretly checks whether Su Xiuyi’s divination will prove correct; much later, he treats a supposedly fatal forbidden zone as an opportunity because Su Xiuyi is present 131 715.

His loyalty is not limited to praise. He considers himself Su Xiuyi’s right-hand man, endures the agony of traveling through the Long River of Time without crying out, and fights to protect Hu Qingyun despite recognizing that the Evil God Tiger vastly outclasses him 727 898 915.

Blood Dog cultivates a path of devouring and awakens a dedicated devouring talent during his years in the Demon God Grotto-Heaven 190 217.
