| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Newly advanced Quasi-God | 6 9 | His cultivation is known to few. He has only recently entered the realm and is weaker than the three Devil Race Quasi-Gods attacking the Devil-Sealing Well. |
| Divine Body collapse | 10 11 | Burning his Divine Body essence blood during the battle destroys his foundation. His cultivation begins falling rapidly, and he expects to live no more than ten years. |
| Below Martial Emperor Realm | 18 | His continuing decline leaves him weaker than Xi Zhaoqu, an advanced-stage Martial Emperor. |
| Divine Body restoration begins | 30 | Lin Heng gives him a Ninth-Grade Body-Reshaping Pill. His vitality returns, though severe divine-blood depletion prevents immediate full recovery. He then receives a Nirvana Pill. |
| Divine Body fully restored and strengthened | 31 | After receiving both divine pills, Hong San confirms that his Divine Body has recovered completely and improved beyond its former condition. |
| Divine Soul Pearl formed | 31 | A seed from the Seven-Colored Heavenly Heart Lotus allows him to form a Divine Soul Pearl within the time needed to drink a cup of tea. His nearly century-long cultivation has already established a strong soul foundation. |
| High-Stage Quasi-God confirmed | 32 40 42 | With both a Divine Body and divine soul, he is substantially stronger than before his injury. He remains a Quasi-God rather than advancing to the God Realm. |

- After the Devil-Sealing Well battle: His face is described as pale as wax following the collapse of his Divine Body 11.
- After treatment: His complexion becomes rosy and vigorous, making him appear twenty years younger 30.
- After forming a Divine Soul Pearl: His eyes become clearer, brighter, and as deep as a sea of stars 31.
Personality
Hong San is willing to sacrifice himself for the Chishui Kingdom and the human race. Despite knowing he cannot defeat three experienced Devil Race Quasi-Gods, he refuses to abandon the Devil-Sealing Well. After losing his Divine Body, he declares that he has no regrets about fighting to the death for them 9 11.
He genuinely likes Lin Heng and treats Liu Ling’er respectfully even before her strength becomes public. His care includes holding the newborn, preparing meals, and watching over him during danger 16 18 32.
His gratitude develops into absolute loyalty after Lin Heng restores his cultivation. Although he initially worries about provoking the king, he obeys Lin Heng even when doing so means openly defying royal authority. He nevertheless prefers to deter the palace’s Quasi-Gods rather than fight them, since they previously guided him and remain on good terms with him 31 32 44.
Abilities & Skills
Divine Body
- Provides enough physical strength and speed to overwhelm Xi Zhaoqu without releasing his cultivation power 33.
- Enables him to seize and restrain Martial Thearch opponents with overwhelming force 42.
- Remains an ordinary Divine Body; Lin Heng notes that it would not make Hong San comparable to Liu Ling’er even if he eventually entered the God Realm 31.
Divine Sense and Divine Soul
- Detects the Devil Race intruders approaching the Devil-Sealing Hall 8 9.
- Gains a Divine Soul Pearl through the Seven-Colored Heavenly Heart Lotus seed 31.
- Detects hostile divine sense tracking him and Lin Heng during their journey to Great Xia 46.
Divine Body Essence-Blood Burning
- Temporarily raises his strength enough to resist three stronger Quasi-Gods 9 47.
- Causes his Divine Body to collapse after its first use, drastically reducing his cultivation and remaining lifespan 10 11.
- Cannot safely be used a second time; doing so would mean certain death 47.
Golden Thunder Sword Formation
- Separates the Golden Thunder Divine Sword into nine swords that surround an opponent and continuously release golden sword light 32 47.
- Traps and kills Shi Dexiang even after the latter burns his Divine Body essence blood 48.
- Requires Hong San to feed the swords his Divine Body essence blood because he has not attained divine power. The heavy cost prevents him from using it casually 47.
Flight and Protection
- Carries Lin Heng through the air, covering two thousand li in half an hour 46.
- Shields Lin Heng from the Ten Fiends Prison’s lightning and fire 40 41.
- Cannot always intercept multiple comparable opponents: Shi Dexiang keeps him occupied while Xu Bai pursues Lin Heng 46.
Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Glazed Divine Armor — A high-grade divine artifact bestowed alongside the sword. Made from pieces of divine crystal and free of devil Qi, it provides powerful defense and a boost to movement speed 32 44 47.

- Nirvana Pill — The second divine pill Lin Heng supplies to complete his recovery and restore his ability to serve as a protector 30 31.
- Seven-Colored Heavenly Heart Lotus seed — Consumed to form his Divine Soul Pearl 31.
History
Palace Service and the Devil-Sealing Well
As chief steward, Hong San accompanies Su Song during a visit to Su Ying. When news arrives that an assassin has died outside the Palace of Reflection, he immediately checks on the pregnant Liu Ling’er. The next morning, he delivers the decree permitting her relocation to the Heartwarming Pavilion and arranges help with her belongings 4.
When Chishui’s usual Quasi-God defenders leave for the Lingxi Kingdom, Lin Changqing assigns Hong San to guard the Devil-Sealing Well. Three Devil Race Quasi-Gods attack, intending to open it. Hong San raises the alarm and fights despite the disparity in strength, burning his Divine Body essence blood until Liu Ling’er intervenes 6 8 9 10.
The battle leaves his Divine Body destroyed. Unable to identify his rescuer, he suggests that the Great Xia Empire may have sent her. Lin Changqing relieves him of palace administration and assigns him to teach Liu Ling’er’s unborn child 11.
Lin Heng’s Caretaker
After Lin Heng’s birth, Hong San moves into the Heartwarming Pavilion to care for him. He warns Liu Ling’er that his remaining lifespan limits how long he can protect her son 16.
During the subsequent Devil Race invasion, he begins to suspect that Liu Ling’er was the mysterious woman who saved him. She entrusts Lin Heng to him while she enters battle. After her victory, Hong San follows her instruction to turn away visitors so mother and child can rest 18 22.
Three years later, Lin Heng gives him divine pills, a lotus seed, and two divine artifacts. Hong San believes these treasures were left by Liu Ling’er; Lin Heng conceals their true source. With his foundation restored, Hong San pledges his life to the prince 30 31 32.
The Ten Fiends Prison and Palace Confrontation
Hong San protests when Lin Changqing sentences the three-year-old Lin Heng to two months in the Ten Fiends Prison, then accompanies him inside. On the tenth night, Su Song and a Lingxi Martial Thearch enter to assassinate them. Hong San reveals his recovered strength and kills both attackers 39 40 42 43.
Carrying their bodies into the palace, he delivers Lin Heng’s demand that Su Ying and Shi Feifei confess and take their own lives. He kills Nanny Xu when she attacks and refuses to abandon his mission when Lin Changqing intervenes. Revealing his strengthened cultivation and divine artifacts, he persuades the king not to risk a confrontation. He knocks Shi Feifei unconscious and kills Su Ying before reporting back to Lin Heng 43 44.
Journey to Great Xia
Hong San and Lin Heng secretly depart for the Great Xia Divine Martial Institute. Lingxi Quasi-Gods Shi Dexiang and Xu Bai ambush them en route. Hong San battles Shi Dexiang while Lin Heng handles Xu Bai and two additional Devil Race Quasi-Gods 46 47 48.
After killing Shi Dexiang with his sword formation, Hong San presents the enemy’s divine saber to Lin Heng. The effort leaves him drained and slows their remaining journey. They reach the institute the following morning and are welcomed by Vice Dean Dongfang Xi 48.
When told that students cannot keep attendants within the institute, Hong San declares that he will continue following Lin Heng rather than return to Chishui. Dongfang Xi then offers him an instructor position; his answer is not shown in the supplied passage 50.
