Background / History
Dijiang served Mu Chen as one of the Twelve Ancestral Witches. He witnessed Mu Chen’s rise through the Four Seas, including his subjugation of Hongjun, and retained vivid memories of those campaigns. He also heard Mu Chen discuss the Eight Great Saint Emperors with Primordial Chaos, learning that the emperors were replaceable custodians of the eight Origins rather than truly everlasting beings 798 856.
During an earlier opening of the Eternal Ruins, Dijiang defeated Zhao Wuji in a struggle over a treasure and scarred the corner of his left eye. Zhao Wuji deliberately preserved the scar as a reminder of his humiliation. Mu Chen and the Twelve Ancestral Witches disappeared not long after that encounter 955.
Dijiang later spent many years guarding the Peach Garden Heavenly Abode under Mu Chen’s instructions. When Qingshan attempted its trials, Dijiang secretly helped him pass Battle Heaven Hall—not because he considered Qingshan a worthy successor, but because installing a temporary master would let him leave to search for his brothers. He returned with news of them 466.
Qingshan subsequently lost his life and control of the Heavenly Abode after being deceived by the Eight Great Imperial Clans. That failure shaped Dijiang’s treatment of Lin Heng: he sought both a stronger successor and someone less vulnerable to betrayal 471 473.
Appearance
- Appears to be a man in his early forties 460.
- Wears a simple, old-fashioned gray robe 460.
- Has an unremarkable appearance and an apparently ordinary presence, despite possessing enough strength to severely injure Lin Xiao with a snort 460.
Personality
Dijiang is a demanding mentor who refuses to equate an appointed successor with a worthy master. Although Mu Chen ordered special treatment for people with multiple physiques, Dijiang independently raised Lin Heng’s trial difficulty and insisted that he comprehend his own Dao intent. He declared that he would not relax this requirement even if Tian Thirty-Two killed Lin Heng 462 466.
His support often takes an indirect, calculated form. He publicly announced Lin Heng’s valuable rewards to expose his companions’ reactions, and he arranged for clues about foreign-race infiltration to reach Situ Jiannan rather than simply eliminating the threat himself. Both decisions were intended to develop Lin Heng’s judgment and independence 473 769.
Once he acknowledges Lin Heng, his loyalty is not dependent on their relative strength. He continues to revere Lin Heng even after surpassing him in cultivation, refuses Hermoz’s offer to betray him, and rejects Fate’s suggestion that he pursue independent dominion. He offers warnings but ultimately respects Lin Heng’s authority over his own decisions 1002 1025 1039 1051.
His desire to protect his master nevertheless creates a vulnerability. Fate persuades him to accept breakthrough assistance by invoking Mu Chen’s defeat and promising that Lin Heng will not be harmed. Dijiang later regrets the agreement and refuses further cooperation after learning that Fate may have been involved in Mu Chen’s death 974 999 1001 1002.
Abilities & Skills
Spatial Manipulation
Dijiang uses spatial power for travel, isolation, confinement, and combat 461 470 797 1011.
- Private barriers: Creates an isolating spatial circle to question Lin Heng without Chen Yulin overhearing 461.
- Spatial gates: Opens passages between Battle Heaven Hall’s separate trial spaces 470.
- Attack reflection and capture: Reflects Yan Xixin’s spatial attack, then catches him in a giant hand when he attempts to escape 797.
- Cross-space attacks: Injures Yan Xifan through a distant rescue attempt 797.
- Temporary battlefields: Creates a palm-sized external space whose interior is comparable in area to one of the Four Seas 1011.
Universe Power and Physical Combat
Dijiang combines close-quarters fighting with overwhelming universe-powered strength 799 1011.
- Kills the Fire Separation Saint Emperor with a controlled punch that contains no law power. The attack overwhelms the emperor’s defenses without requiring Dijiang’s full strength 799.
- Exchanges hundreds of punches with the newly advanced Liu Yuansheng, gaining a slight advantage through his more stabilized cultivation 1011.
- After reaching the Eternal Ages Cosmic Origin Realm, possesses strength comparable to the Lords of the Four Seas; top-tier treasures become an important factor in their matchups 979.
- His universe is described as three-layered in an earlier account, but later explicitly identified as four-layered. No corresponding reconstruction or advancement is documented in the supplied accounts 684 979 996.
Soul Power
Dijiang can use soul power with precision rather than solely as an attack 469.
- Infuses a reprimand with gentle soul power to restore Tian Thirty-Two’s clarity after his defeat by Lin Heng 469.
- Prevents Tian Thirty-Two’s doubts from progressing toward the collapse of his Dao Realm and destruction of his soul 469.
- Attempts soul-based examination of Hermoz’s Infinite Space, but cannot identify a way out through that method 1050 1051.
Death Space
After comprehending the mysteries of the top-tier spirit treasure Eternal Ages, Dijiang deploys Death Space against Hermoz 1051 1052 1053.
- Fills the battlefield with death energy and black storms of death 1053.
- Shapes death energy into eighteen defensive walls; fifteen are destroyed while stopping Hermoz’s Light of Life attack 1053 1054.
- Suppresses rather than permanently removes the opposing life energy: it would return once Death Space was withdrawn 1053.
- Can be breached by sufficient force. Hermoz escapes by detonating the Heaven Lock Glazed Staff and shattering its spatial boundary 1054.
Trial Administration and Instruction
Dijiang oversees cultivation trials and adjusts their conditions to shape a challenger’s development 460 466 470.
- Assigns Azure Feather Hall challenges according to cultivation rather than soul realm 460.
- Directs Tian Thirty-Two to increase his strength alongside Lin Heng, unlike ordinary Battle Heaven Hall opponents whose strength remains fixed at entry 467 470.
- Recognizes Lin Heng’s initial Heavenly Dao Annihilation Realm and identifies the limits of Tian Thirty-Two’s ability to guide him 467.
- Explains the Heavenly Estate’s later trials, the upper realm’s dangers, universe grades, and opportunities within the Eternal Ruins 790 849 952.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Temporal spirit treasure — Provides a time flow one hundred million times faster than normal. Dijiang makes it available for Lin Heng’s Origin-fusion training before the trial against Houtu 842 845.
- Fuxi Bow — Comprehends it while approaching the bottleneck before the Eternal Ages Cosmic Origin Realm 973.
- Eternal Ages Divine Weapon — A top-tier spirit treasure supplied by Lin Heng for the confrontation with Hermoz. Dijiang later masters its mysteries and uses Death Space 979 1051 1052.
- Cosmic Net Seal — Another top-tier spirit treasure supplied by Lin Heng. Dijiang uses it to restrain the blood-colored skull while fighting Hermoz 979 983.
- Pangu Axe — temporarily tested — Returns it to Lin Heng after discovering that even an Eternal Ages Cosmic Origin cultivator cannot wield it freely. He considers it suitable for a desperate all-out attack but too draining for ordinary combat 996.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Testing Mu Chen’s Successor
Dijiang first meets Lin Heng as Azure Feather Hall’s administrator. Recognizing that he possesses multiple physiques like Mu Chen, he privately allows him to select three treasures instead of one 460 461 462.
His generosity is paired with unusually severe testing. In Battle Heaven Hall, he requires Lin Heng to develop his own Dao intent and repeatedly raises Tian Thirty-Two’s permitted strength. He watches Lin Heng’s progress over 180,000 years before accepting his victory and testing his understanding of the Heavenly Dao 466 467 469 470.
Afterward, he brings Lin Heng to the hall’s highest floor—a privilege previously denied to challengers—and begins explaining the Heavenly Abode’s history. He also supplies more than one hundred thousand Initial-Grade Chaos Spirit Treasure flying swords for Lin Heng’s disciples when contacted through the Peach Garden Key 470 471 479.
Protecting Battle Heaven Pavilion
Dijiang allows the foreign-race conspiracy involving the Fire Separation Saint Emperor to continue as a source of pressure for Lin Heng, while arranging for Situ Jiannan to uncover clues 769.
His willingness to let Lin Heng face danger does not prevent direct intervention when guarding the pavilion. He kills Yan Xixin, defeats a rescue attempt across space, and subsequently kills the Fire Separation Saint Emperor himself. He leaves after fulfilling his promise to protect Battle Heaven Pavilion, reminding Lin Heng to attempt the Heavenly Estate’s third level 797 799 809.
The Heavenly Estate’s Final Trials
Dijiang escorts Lin Heng to the third-level trials and explains Gou Mang’s control over the Origin of Wood. Before the final confrontation, he reveals that Houtu’s devotion to Mu Chen has made her hostile toward his successor 832 841.
He provides accelerated cultivation time for Lin Heng to develop Origin fusion, then advises him that only overwhelming strength will win Houtu’s acknowledgment. By their subsequent discussions of the upper realm, Dijiang addresses Lin Heng as his master 842 845 849.
Breakthrough and Conflict with Fate
Unable to cross his final bottleneck through comprehension alone, Dijiang accepts Fate’s assistance on the condition that speaking on his behalf will not harm Lin Heng. Fate also tells him to conceal the breakthrough 973 974.
His new strength becomes apparent when a snort severely injures the Eternal Realm cultivators Situ Lei and Sima Bo after Liu Ling’er is harmed. Lin Yue Yao correctly deduces that he has reached the same realm as the Four Seas lords 977.
Dijiang later regrets his bargain. When Fate returns, he refuses to persuade Lin Heng to destroy the Primordial Chaos Universe and rejects the offer of a chance to rule a region himself 999 1001 1002.
Battles with Hermoz
Equipped with Eternal Ages and the Cosmic Net Seal, Dijiang confronts Hermoz while Lin Heng’s Evil Avatar consumes the Blood Spirit Grand Array. He divides his strength between restraining the blood-colored skull, protecting the avatar, and blocking Hermoz’s attacks 979 983.
In a later battle inside a temporary space, Hermoz lands a full-power blow and uses the opening to flee. Dijiang survives and emerges afterward, leaving the spectators uncertain about the result 1024 1025.
Their contest resumes over access to the Heavenly Ladder. Hermoz traps him in Infinite Space, but Dijiang survives its assault and answers with Death Space. Hermoz ultimately detonates his own top-tier treasure to escape and concedes, depriving Dijiang of the chance to kill him 1049 1050 1051 1054.
Ancient Clan Conflict and Later Service
Dijiang intercepts a spear slash aimed at Lin Heng by an unidentified silver-armored newcomer. The attack knocks his weapon away and gravely injures him, demonstrating a level of power beyond the opponents he had recently faced 1058.
Later, he receives Hongjun’s warning about Mo Chen’s plan to lure Lin Heng into a false ruin. He also witnesses Lin Heng’s lightning tribulation, retreating with the others when its shockwaves become too powerful 1077 1084.
In the Heavenly Star Sea Region, Dijiang manages visitors and conveys information on Lin Heng’s behalf. He tells Hermoz and Dasiwoba that Lin Heng has suffered severe soul injuries, a report they intend to monitor for the Ancient Clan. He subsequently helps stage the arrival of the Four Seas lords during Hai Qianmo’s compensation negotiations 1109 1119.
Relationships
- Mu Chen — Former master. Dijiang remains proud of his achievements and protective of his legacy; Mu Chen’s fate is also the subject Fate uses to influence him 856 974 1002.
- Lin Heng — Successor he first tests, then willingly serves. Dijiang values his determination to pursue cultivation rather than become attached to ruling the Nine Heavens 466 737 850 857.
- The other Ancestral Witches — Longstanding brothers who treat him as their eldest brother. He recognizes their discomfort at falling behind his cultivation and welcomes Lin Heng’s offer to help them advance 466 1105.
- Tian Thirty-Two — Trial combatant under his direction. Dijiang demands increasingly difficult opposition for Lin Heng but also intervenes to protect Tian Thirty-Two’s damaged understanding of his Dao 467 469.
- Fate — Breakthrough benefactor and distrusted manipulator. Their conditional bargain deteriorates into Dijiang’s explicit refusal to cooperate further 974 999 1001 1002.
- Hermoz — Repeated combat opponent who cannot understand Dijiang’s devotion to a less powerful master 979 1025 1049.
- Hongjun — Old acquaintance whom Dijiang considers exceptionally shrewd and potentially dangerous despite his assistance to Lin Heng 1029 1077.
- Lin Yue Yao — Acquaintance from Mu Chen’s era. Dijiang initially cautions Lin Heng that her unresolved feelings toward Mu Chen might make her dangerous 912 977.
- Zhao Wuji — Old enemy who seeks revenge for the scar Dijiang left during a treasure dispute in the Eternal Ruins 955.
