Kanao is present when the Ubuyashiki twins demand that Tanjiro surrender the unconscious Kiyohiko. She watches Tanjiro and becomes visibly confused when the candidates Kiyohiko saved form a protective circle around him. She is not shown joining that circle 8.

Recognizing Shinobu’s Attachment

At the Butterfly Mansion, Kanao reenacts Kiyohiko’s ceiling-crawling antics through gestures, making Shinobu laugh. After a coin toss, she directly asks whether Shinobu cares about him 23.

When Shinobu describes her attention as professional responsibility, Kanao challenges that explanation by pointing out her genuine happiness and personal irritation. She tells Shinobu that she does not hate Kiyohiko and hopes he can remain beside her if he makes her smile 24.

Watching and Sparring with Kiyohiko

Kiyohiko discovers that Kanao has been watching his meals, rest, kitchen raids, and training. After emerging from behind an azalea bush, she gives him two meat-filled rice balls but refuses to show him her notebook. She then accepts his request to spar after consulting her coin 30.

Kanao initially overwhelms him, but he eventually disarms and immobilizes her. Shinobu interrupts, sends Kanao away to wash her face, and takes over Kiyohiko’s training herself 31.

Pranks and Reconciliation

Kanao catches Kiyohiko preparing a powder trap for Shinobu. After flipping her coin, she steps aside and stays to watch; Shinobu later remarks that even Kanao was absorbed in the spectacle when the trap backfires 37 38.

When Kiyohiko later seeks advice about calming an angry girl, Kanao offers only her usual smile. Once he and Shinobu reconcile, however, she watches them with a small, genuine smile and nods in agreement with Aoi’s relief 44 47.
