Realm Characteristics
Cultivation Rank and Combat Strength
- Realm and strength are not interchangeable. At the Absolute Peak of Immortality, Xiao Ping'an and the Undying Heavenly Emperor possess Immortal King-level combat power before formally entering the realm 197 201 238.
- Quasi-Immortal Kings can also exceed their nominal rank. The Lightning Emperor possessed Immortal King-level combat strength while still a Quasi-Immortal King 234.
- Immortal King Giant denotes exceptional strength within the realm. Wushang and the Red King are identified at this level 226 235.
- A new entrant need not begin weak. Xiao Ping'an’s accumulated foundation gives him at least Giant-level strength immediately after his breakthrough 204 205.
- Immortal King is not the summit. Quasi-Immortal Emperor, Immortal Emperor, and Sacrificial Dao lie beyond it; Xiao Ping'an still considers himself barely capable of participating in the struggle against the Weird Race 202 205 256.
Immortal King Great Tribulation
Baptism by heavenly lightning is described as indispensable to becoming an Immortal King 204.
- Body and primordial spirit transform together. Immortal Dao runes and lightning temper both, while the cultivator’s weapon may undergo refinement alongside them 204.
- The tribulation can destroy world fragments. Xiao Ping'an leaves the Strange World because it cannot withstand his tribulation; the Undying Heavenly Emperor’s tribulation makes nearby fragments tremble 204 256.
- Past Immortal Kings can appear as opponents. During the Undying Heavenly Emperor’s breakthrough, the River of Time reproduces portions of ancient Kings’ laws and divine power as illusory figures 256.
- The ordeal can become nourishment. Both contemporary attainers absorb its laws and lightning to strengthen themselves 204 256.
- It is the highest ordinary heavenly tribulation. The subsequent Quasi-Immortal Emperor, Immortal Emperor, and Sacrificial Dao realms do not face heavenly tribulations, despite the existence of higher Thunder Great Dao laws 256.
Abilities & Properties
Undying Body and Primordial Spirit
An Immortal King’s flesh and primordial spirit acquire enduring, nearly indestructible qualities 204.
- Destroying the body does not necessarily kill the King; a surviving primordial spirit can escape or rebuild it 221.
- Complete eradication generally requires prolonged effort, and a seemingly slain King may return 204.
- An overwhelming difference in strength or a special Great Dao can bypass this difficulty 221.
- Immortal Kings are not immune to fatal injuries: the old King defending the Primordial Imperial City gradually loses his life after suffering a severe Great Dao wound 227.
Great Dao Authority
- Xiao Ping'an’s breakthrough radiates Great Dao light through the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands, the Strange World, and multiple Immortal Domain fragments; their barriers cannot block it 204.
- His strength places the Heavenly Heart Imprint beneath him and makes him capable of destroying the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands with a thought 206.
- Battles between Kings can shatter the void, destroy stretches of starry rivers, and evaporate portions of the Boundary Sea 221 226.
- Particular powers remain individual rather than universal. Wushang’s immunity to techniques is his own Great Dao, while Xiao Ping'an’s three supreme laws govern time, space, and reincarnation 224 226.
Independence from World Laws
- Cultivators using the Five Great Secret Realms follow the principle of taking the body as the seed: their power comes from within rather than depending heavily on their birthplace 205.
- For these cultivators, entering a world with different Great Dao rules does not diminish their strength 205.
- Earlier traditions included Kings severing their ties to their birth worlds to avoid being held back by them 205.
Blood, Lineage, and Blessings
- Source essence blood can baptize bodies and souls, strengthen their source, and extend lifespans. Xiao Ping'an gives one drop to each of three children 220.
- Historical accounts describe people without cultivation talent becoming exceptional geniuses after baptism with Immortal King blood 220.
- Inherited bloodlines can provide extraordinary aptitude. The Great Phoenix combines an Immortal King bloodline with Phoenix origin, both naturally harmonious with the Great Dao 253.
- Blessing a birth world can strengthen it. After Xiao Ping'an gives back to the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands, he senses that its heaven and earth have become more stable and powerful 205 206.
History
Ancient Immortal Kings
Even at the Immortal Domain’s height, its Immortal Kings remained few enough to count on fingers and toes, each having accumulated cultivation over long ages. They occupied positions comparable to rulers of the world 204 205.
During the war with the Foreign Land, coordinated attacks by its Kings of Immortality killed Immortal Domain Kings who often fought separately. Xiao Ping'an witnesses Wuzhong and the Six Dao Reincarnation Immortal King being attacked by several opponents before Wushang delivers the fatal blows. The Heavenly Abyss was another legacy of these wars, constructed by Immortal Kings using immense materials and power to bar invasion 224.
Decline after the Immortal Domain Shattered
By the time the Undying Heavenly Emperor originally fell into the mortal world, Immortal Kings had already become distant legends. After the Immortal Domain’s fragmentation, their disappearance and the deterioration of world laws made new breakthroughs seem almost impossible 150 204 220 239.
Xiao Ping'an’s breakthrough overturned that belief. The Undying Heavenly Emperor later became the second clearly recorded contemporary attainer, renewing other cultivators’ confidence in the Red Dust Immortal path. Hundun Heavenly Venerable was widely expected to follow them, but had not yet been confirmed as an Immortal King in the supplied events 205 256 257.
Notable Immortal Kings
| Figure | Documented Significance |
|---|---|
| Xiao Ping'an / Overlord Heavenly Venerable | First confirmed contemporary attainer; enters with at least Giant-level strength and is later explicitly described as a peak Immortal King 204 205 234. |
| Undying Heavenly Emperor | Second clearly recorded contemporary attainer; absorbs the entirety of his tribulation 256 257. |
| Wuzhong and Six Dao Reincarnation Immortal King | Ancient defenders killed after combined attacks from Foreign Land Kings 224 226. |
| Old Immortal King of the Primordial Imperial City | Uses his dwindling essence to activate the Heavenly Abyss against Anlan 224 227. |
| Anlan and Yutuo | Foreign Land Kings involved in killing numerous Immortal Kings; both are later slain by Xiao Ping'an using the Ash Jar 224 227. |
| Wushang | Ancient Foreign Land Giant renowned for immunity to techniques; fights Xiao Ping'an before being killed with the Ash Jar 226 227. |
| Red King | Giant who devoured and refined another Immortal King Giant; loses a manifestation to Xiao Ping'an 234 235. |
Weapons and Remains
- White Bone Saber — Identified by the God-Slaying Insect as a weapon refined from an Immortal King’s remains, explaining its ability to split his True Immortal-level body despite its degraded condition 32.
- Kunlun Immortal Bell — Originally an Immortal King weapon; its power repeatedly declined after falling into the mortal world 91.
- Great Red Heaven Blade — Evolves into an Immortal King weapon alongside Xiao Ping'an and cleaves through a Dark Immortal King’s armor and body 221.
- Phoenix Furnace — A damaged Immortal King weapon restored by the Undying Heavenly Emperor because its weapon spirit survives 239 240.
- Burial Domain graves — Contain at least ten Immortal King corpses and can nurture life amid death; the Undying Heavenly Emperor buries a Phoenix Immortal King’s remains there 242.
Dark Corruption
- Immortal Kings remain vulnerable to Weird Substance. Corruption can erase their original consciousness and leave a hostile Dark Immortal King 221 248.
- Corruption can impair effective strength. A corrupted former Giant fights only on instinct and cannot bring his full power to bear 248.
- Victory does not guarantee safety. After suppressing a peak Dark Immortal King, Xiao Ping'an discovers black blood flowing from his own wounds 221.
- Contaminated remains remain dangerous. Dark Weird Substance erupts from the Phoenix Immortal King’s bones while the Undying Heavenly Emperor attempts to refine it 242.
