The Clan's Expected Prodigy
Yu Xiaogang earned a reputation for exceptional comprehension from childhood. Clan elders praised him as a future hope, while his father considered him the clan's most talented child in recent years. Yu Yuanzhen arranged a grand awakening ceremony to establish his son's reputation and prepare the way for his future 12 13.
At the banquet preceding the ceremony, Yu Xiaogang regarded Bibi Dong and Lin Chuan as rivals he would soon surpass. He resented Lin Chuan for beating clan children who had bullied Liu Erlong, believing that an outsider had no right to intervene in the clan's internal affairs. His father's conciliatory treatment of Spirit Hall convinced him that the older generation had lost its fighting spirit 13 14.
Failed Awakening
Placed last in the ceremony as its principal attraction, Yu Xiaogang deliberately waited for everyone's attention before entering the awakening formation. He expected to eclipse Liu Erlong's innate level-eight Soul Power and secure the Soul Bone wagered between his clan and Spirit Hall 15 17.
His awakening initially produced golden light and a dragon phantom whose presence surpassed that of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon. Yu Xiaogang escalated the confrontation by questioning whether Yu Yuanzhen was truly his father and blaming his father's bloodline for his poor talent. As elders carried him away, he spat blood from anger. Lin Chuan healed him again, but the ensuing praise for Lin Chuan intensified his distress; this time, Yu Xiaogang genuinely lost consciousness 23 24.
The Lost Soul Bone and Three-Year Challenge
After waking, Yu Xiaogang briefly hoped the ceremony had been a nightmare. Seeing his purple Martial Soul confirmed otherwise. He rushed out without taking his medicine, convinced that the clan's Holy Light Sword Dragon Soul Bone might restore the Golden Sacred Dragon 27 28.
Yu Yuanzhen told him to cultivate to level ten rather than dream of absorbing a Soul Bone. He also revealed that Lin Chuan had already absorbed it. His loyalty to clan prestige is mixed with personal entitlement. Although he disapproves of an outsider disciplining clan children, he is also jealous of Liu Erlong's gratitude toward Lin Chuan.
