Background / History

Life with Zabuza

Haku met Zabuza while still very young and subsequently trained, traveled, and carried out missions with him in exile. Their life involved avoiding Kirigakure pursuers and accepting dangerous missions. Haku regarded being useful to Zabuza as a purpose worth dying for 72 77 83.

Recruitment in the Land of Waves

Zhang Yu selected Haku and Zabuza for the Undead Tavern’s posthumous recruitment program and sent Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha to secure their agreements. When Zabuza was subdued, Haku attempted a surprise rescue with Ice Release. Madara evaporated the attack with his Great Fireball Technique and restrained Haku before she could escape 36 53.

Haku agreed to sign after Hashirama explained that the contract imposed no restrictions during life and would require tavern work only after death. Later, Zhang Yu summoned Haku directly from cleaning tables to watch Naruto and Sasuke’s battle at the Valley of the End. She worried about the fighters and was reassured that they would survive. Afterward, Zhang Yu flew her back to Konoha; the experience left her shaken enough to decline the prospect of more flights 319 322.
