Service in the Pope's Palace

Bai Guyue originally lived freely outside Spirit Hall. After encountering Bibi Dong and Qian Xunji, he was brought to the Pope's Palace at Bibi Dong's request to serve as her guard. He remained there for six or seven years, benefiting from its cultivation resources and seeking swordsmanship guidance from Qian Xunji. He also spent time accompanying Qian Renxue 1 3.

He once had an opportunity to leave but stayed to reach Soul King first. Following Qian Xunji's death, he considered his service finished and attempted to depart. Instead, the newly appointed Pope Bibi Dong announced her intention to marry him and ordered Yue Guan and Gui Mei to prevent him from leaving Spirit Hall 1.

Immortal Herbs and Political Bargaining

Under pressure to cooperate with Bibi Dong's marriage plans, Bai Guyue revealed methods for strengthening the body and absorbing older Soul Rings. He led her, Yue Guan, and Gui Mei to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, where he selected Immortal Herbs for their advancement and cultivated his own body 4 5 6 7 9 10.

His knowledge also secured Dugu Bo's loyalty: he supplied Calamity-Clearing Spirit-Nurturing Ganoderma to remove the poison afflicting Dugu Bo's bloodline. He then proposed using Immortal Herbs to gain the Worship Hall's support for Bibi Dong 9 11 12.

Qian Daoliu initially demanded custody of Bai Guyue as part of Qian Xunji's “inheritance,” denying him a choice in the matter. Bibi Dong refused and offered advancement opportunities to the worships in exchange for supporting their wedding. Bai Guyue subsequently demonstrated Whale Rubber's value, earning Qian Daoliu's recognition for his contribution to Spirit Hall 22 23 24.

Marriage and Fatherhood

Bai Guyue married Bibi Dong in a public ceremony attended by representatives of major factions. His objections persisted through the wedding: he asked her to call it off and later attempted to leave their locked bedchamber. Bibi Dong refused his request not to consummate the marriage and used her superior cultivation to win the contest she had imposed on him 32 33 36.

Their relationship nevertheless developed moments of reciprocal affection. Bai Guyue publicly kissed Bibi Dong during her confrontation with Yu Xiaogang, cared for her during pregnancy, and stayed beside her for three days after she gave birth. Their children were boy-girl twins: Bai Qingyao, the older sister, and Bai Qingyun, the younger brother 41 56 57 58.

Divine Trials and Later Hunts

Bai Guyue received the God of Destruction's inheritance while absorbing his Sixth Soul Ring. His First Trial led him to develop two complementary sword techniques. The Second Trial required studying destruction and defeating increasingly difficult Evil Beasts, culminating in a six-attribute opponent whose internal balance he disrupted to make it explode 13 14 45 54 55 59.

After reaching Soul Saint, he hunted the Titan Giant Ape with Bibi Dong, Yue Guan, Gui Mei, and Dugu Bo. He later helped secure a Hundred-Thousand-Year Blood-Bathed Phoenix for Li Yuan'er and additional rings for Bibi Dong's second Martial Soul. When Di Tian proposed cooperation, Bai Guyue agreed to preserve Ah Rou as Bibi Dong's Soul Spirit rather than kill her 60 62 68 69 70.

Bai Guyue is repeatedly described as exceptionally handsome, with features that observers consider more beautiful than a woman's 1 33.

Bai Guyue strongly values personal freedom. He openly rejects Bibi Dong's proposal, objects to being confined, and continues challenging her possessiveness after their marriage. His resistance is often expressed through sarcasm, blunt insults, and deliberate teasing; he also insists that she not answer questions on his behalf 1 3 7 39 47.

His decisions are pragmatic rather than purely defiant. He originally stayed at Spirit Hall for its resources, recognizes when stronger opponents leave him little room to resist, and uses his rare cultivation knowledge as bargaining power. Despite his complaints about Bibi Dong, he helps strengthen her position and refuses valuable Soul Bones when they are better suited to her 1 9 18 23.

He is attentive to his family and pupils. He postpones a divine challenge to be present near Bibi Dong's delivery, comforts his newborn daughter, and improves Dugu Yan's physique. In battle, he combines direct aggression with opportunistic tactics, exploiting mental disruption, hidden marks, and unstable enemy attributes 45 55 56 57 59.

His original Tool Martial Soul is a pitch-black sword surrounded by soul-devouring mist. Refining the Nine-Leaf Soul-Devouring Grass strengthens both its killing and devouring capabilities 9.
