The Outer City in Panic
"I know your question just now was really a request. You wanted to ask why I interfered with the Reincarnation Immortal Physique's growth, didn't you?"
What else could it be, with the Heavenly Dao showing up now? Ye Zichen could have figured that out with his feet.
"Yes. Please enlighten me, my lord!" Seeing that Ye Zichen had brought it up himself, the Heavenly Dao took the opportunity to ask him for an explanation.
After all, the Reincarnation Immortal Physique could be said to mold a ruthless ruler.
But by doing this, Ye Zichen had disrupted her future path to becoming an Immortal Emperor.
"I simply took pity on the child and gave her a hand. Is it me you don't trust, or the title of Immortal Emperor?"
Ye Zichen felt that a child needed family and happiness to grow up. Single-mindedly pursuing those things could easily make one lose sight of oneself.
Perhaps Mu Lingxi of those ninety-nine lives had understood that, and so had wished for the Mu Lingxi of this life to live as herself!
So there was no particular reason!
"I wouldn't dare! Your decisions as an Immortal Emperor must surely be guided by your own judgment!"
The Heavenly Dao hurriedly denied it. It didn't dare provoke this being in the slightest!
"Forget it. I'll do as I please. You'd better worry about yourself. You may leave."
Ye Zichen recalled what his Divine Sense had seen when he helped Long Han awaken that day, and suddenly felt that the Heavenly Dao was rather pitiful.
"Huh? What? Yes, Lord Immortal Emperor."
The Heavenly Dao was utterly bewildered. What's wrong with me?
Still utterly bewildered, the Heavenly Dao was sent away by Ye Zichen just like that.
"Heh, those rats can actually stir up trouble right under the Heavenly Dao's nose. That should be entertaining."
Ye Zichen gave a derisive laugh.
"Never mind. Time to go back."
Ye Zichen's figure vanished from the courtyard.
"Grandma, how are you?"
Mu Lingxi, who had been keeping watch by her grandmother's bed, saw her slowly open her eyes and hurriedly asked with concern.
"I'm fine, granddaughter. But didn't I die, as I remember it?"
Grandma was also very puzzled. Didn't she remember finding two thieves in the house, then being killed after she scolded them?
"No, Grandma, you're remembering it wrong. You were too tired and fainted. Those thieves have already run away."
Mu Lingxi comforted her. Now that the reincarnations were over, she only wanted to spend time with Grandma. Cultivation and everything else could wait!
Hearing Mu Lingxi say that, Grandma stopped thinking about it and said, "Oh, it seems my memory is getting worse and worse. Hahaha."
Ye Zichen glanced at the two of them, then left and strolled slowly back.
"Those two thugs were rather unusual. I'll go take another look when I have time. The rest has nothing to do with me anyway."
Ye Zichen thought that although their identities were unusual, whatever else they did had nothing to do with him. The old emperor could handle it himself.
"This Weiyang Realm... I'm afraid it's in for a rough time."
Ye Zichen rested his chin in his hand, hoping that whatever this group was plotting would be interesting enough to watch.
He strolled slowly to the entrance of the medicine shop.
Long Han sensed Ye Zichen's presence and came to the entrance to greet him.
"I've told you before: work at sunrise and rest at sunset. There's no need to do this again."
Ye Zichen had instructed Long Han to live like an ordinary person, eating and drinking as usual. If there was anything to do, he would have Long Han do it.
"Yes. Forgive me, Young Master Ye." Long Han lowered his head and admitted his fault.
"Forget it. It's already daylight. Go grab that child and take him with you to gather herbs." After giving his instructions, Ye Zichen returned to his room.
Before long, Liao Yunxiao's complaints came from outside.
"Master doesn't feel sorry for me at all. I'm still growing. I need more sleep."
"You'd better say a little less, Yunxiao, or you'll get beaten again in a moment."
Long Han patted Liao Yunxiao on the head, and the two went out, laughing and playing.
Another month passed.
During that month, the people of Chu Imperial City lived in fear. Several cultivators had already been killed in the outer city's territory, and the culprit could not be found. Among the dead were Void Refinement cultivators and even a Venerable!
In the great hall, Chu Muyang appeared furious that the culprit could not be found.
"Several cultivators have died miserable deaths in the outer city for no apparent reason. Do any of you have a lead?"
Chu Muyang looked down at the people below, anger in his voice.
They looked at one another, but not a single person stepped forward to report.
"You bunch of bastards! The perpetrator is running wild right over my head, and you can't find a thing!"
Anger welled up in Chu Muyang's heart. It wasn't that he hadn't investigated himself, but he couldn't find the slightest clue.
"Please calm your anger, Your Majesty!" Everyone hurriedly knelt.
"I'll give you three more days. I need a lead. If you can't find one, prove your resolve with your deaths!"
Chu Muyang slammed his hand on the dragon throne and vanished from the imperial court.
In his bedchamber, Chu Muyang could neither sit nor stand at ease. That person was in the outer city, and he feared this matter might affect that lord. If it did, Chu Imperial City would be finished!
Ye Zichen's response was: It doesn't matter. They're only after your people anyway. It has nothing to do with me.
After thinking it over, Chu Muyang decided to visit Ye Zichen's residence and seek a solution.
The next day, at the medicine shop on the very corner of the eastern outer city.
More people came and went than usual that day. What had happened over the past month had left the nearby residents unable to eat or sleep in peace, so they wanted to ask for some medicine to calm their nerves.
"Take this prescription and ask that medicine boy to prepare it for you."
Ye Zichen wrote out a prescription and directed the old man to have the medicine prepared over there.
"All right, sir!"
The old man took the prescription and went over.
The next person came immediately after.
"I have a worry weighing on my heart that I haven't been able to resolve. I wonder if you can cure it, Doctor?"
The visitor was none other than Chu Muyang, emperor of the Great Chu Imperial Dynasty. He had disguised himself and changed his voice before sitting down to ask.
"There is no illness that cannot be cured, sir."
Ye Zichen recognized his visitor and spoke as though he were treating a patient.
"I wonder what advice you have, Doctor!"
There were mostly commoners here, so Chu Muyang could not speak directly. Otherwise, he would have knelt as soon as he arrived.
Ye Zichen said nothing. He glanced at him, indicating that he should wait in the courtyard while Ye Zichen finished seeing the people behind him who had come for treatment and medicine.
Chu Muyang understood and silently entered the inner courtyard.
Two hours later, Ye Zichen left and entered the courtyard.
When Chu Muyang saw Ye Zichen come in, he hurriedly kowtowed.
"My lord, could you clear up my doubts?"
Chu Muyang was extremely anxious. Every day this matter dragged on damaged the emperor's reputation, so he had no choice but to come and ask this Immortal.
"I have already made plans for this matter. The worry weighing on your heart has been resolved, so you may go back."
Ye Zichen left less than ten breaths after coming in. He had come to deal with this matter in the first place, and would take a look at how things were over there along the way.
Looking at the place where the lord had just departed, Chu Muyang was thrilled. The lord had actually taken charge of the matter! The heart that had been hanging in suspense finally settled!
Chu Muyang kowtowed once more in the direction Ye Zichen had gone, then left.
