Previous Lives and Childhood

Mu Lingxi possesses the Reincarnation Immortal Physique and is living her hundredth incarnation. In each of her previous ninety-nine lives, she repeatedly lost loved ones and endured suffering, despair, and resentment. Her past identities included the last princess of a fallen dynasty, a daughter of a prominent mortal clan, a cultivation genius, and a member of an Immortal Realm cultivation clan 25 27.

In her current life, her parents died protecting her during a war when she was two. Someone from their hometown found her and traveled for days to deliver her to her grandmother. The pair subsequently moved from place to place before settling in Chu Imperial City, hoping its larger population would make selling flowers easier 24 25.

Mu Lingxi began helping support their household as soon as she was old enough. She wanted to earn enough money to buy her grandmother a large house so that she would no longer have to work so hard 27.

Meeting Ye Zichen

Mu Lingxi first met Ye Zichen while selling flowers. When he offered a Spirit Stone for her entire basket, she protested that it was worth far more than the flowers. She invited him home so that her grandmother could teach him to weave wreaths in return 24 25.

During the visit, Ye Zichen learned about her childhood and gave her a wreath he had made. She promised to make an even prettier one for him. After leaving, he reflected on the ninety-nine tragic lives he had seen through the Eye of the Sovereign and decided to help her through her final tribulation 25 26.

Over the following six months, Ye Zichen visited her monthly where she sold flowers between the inner and outer cities. Near New Year, she presented him with a carefully woven wreath and invited him to her family’s larger new home 27.

Final Tribulation and Reunion

Upon arriving home, Mu Lingxi found her grandmother murdered. She repeatedly begged Ye Zichen, whom she knew as a physician, to save her. After collapsing from grief, she dreamed of her hundred lives. Their memories converged into a plea for her to live happily in this incarnation rather than surrender to the hatred that had consumed her previous selves 27.

Ye Zichen took her and her grandmother’s body to his hidden domain. There, he revealed that he had known about her reincarnations from the beginning. Mu Lingxi feared that her awakened memories might make him afraid of her, but his reassurance allowed her to release her grief 28.

Ye Zichen had permitted the loss to occur because it was the tribulation required for her transformation; preventing those particular killers from acting would only have caused another karmic event to take her grandmother’s life. Once the transformation was complete, he recalled her grandmother’s soul with an Immortal Emperor’s Imperial Decree and resurrected her. He also bestowed a cultivation method on Mu Lingxi 28.

Mu Lingxi returned home and reassured her grandmother that she had merely fainted. Although now able to pursue cultivation, she initially preferred to remain by her grandmother’s side. Ye Zichen later killed the two devils responsible for the murder 29 30.

Cultivation and Life Near the Medicine Shop

After beginning cultivation, Mu Lingxi gained more ways to earn money. She and her grandmother moved into another rented home, while she saved toward buying a house beside Ye Zichen’s medicine shop 35.

During a visit to the shop, she befriended Liao Yunxiao and asked Ye Zichen to teach her to write her name. That evening, the two children accompanied Ye Zichen and Long Han to the market to eat treats and fold wishing boats. Ye Zichen carried her home after she fell asleep 35.

By eleven to twelve years old, she had reached Golden Core and was close to being able to move near the shop. She and Liao Yunxiao persuaded Ye Zichen to accept Chu Yunxi’s invitation to Chu Muyang’s birthday celebration, particularly eager for the palace food 46.

At the banquet, Mu Lingxi recognized Chu Muyang through his imperial providence and cultivation. She remained confident beside Ye Zichen when Mo Qianren announced the Devil Race’s impending invasion. After the ensuing duel and banquet, she and Liao Yunxiao were sent home, sleepy after eating their fill 47 48 49.

Mu Lingxi remains cheerful and affectionate despite poverty and bereavement. She takes pride in her grandmother’s wreaths, eagerly shares her own work with Ye Zichen, and values ordinary celebrations such as New Year. Her sense of fairness appears immediately when she tries to return his excessive payment for her flowers 24 25 27.

She is deeply devoted to her grandmother. Her wish to provide a comfortable home motivates her work, and after their reunion she places companionship ahead of cultivation. Even after awakening a hundred lives’ worth of memories, she wants to preserve her remaining family rather than devote herself solely to power 27 29 35.

The awakening makes her more mature, but she remains playful around Ye Zichen and her grandmother. When Liao Yunxiao becomes jealous of Ye Zichen’s attention toward her, she wins him over by reassuring him that his master cares about him. She also retains a child’s enthusiasm for outings, delicious food, and friendly teasing 35 46 47.
