Background / History
The Snezhnaya Incident
Before their encounter in Liyue Harbor, Ronava attempted to take Paimon back to Celestia in Snezhnaya. Lumine believed Paimon would have been killed without The Jester’s intervention. Ronava disputed this, claiming that Paimon’s existence had touched on forbidden matters and that the rules required her retrieval—not her death 13.
The incident left Paimon frightened of Ronava. When they met again in Liyue Harbor, she hid behind Lumine, who drew the Sword of Descension. Lin En defused the confrontation by explaining Ronava’s plans to oppose Phanes. After letting the pair leave, Paimon asked whether they should inform Snezhnaya, and Lumine decided to return there 13.
Voyage to Inazuma
Paimon and Lumine encountered Lin En and Ronava again while examining commissions in Liyue Harbor. Both recognized the little dragon accompanying them. After Lin En entrusted the dragon to Lumine, Paimon blamed him for their rushed departure and gave him the nickname “Jinx” 23.
They boarded the same passenger ship as Lin En and Ronava. During a sea monster’s attack, Paimon clung to the mast and warned of its approaching breath attack. She and Lumine remained aboard to help the crew after Lin En and Ronava destroyed the monster’s control device and departed 24.
Tsurumi Island and the Ravine Rescue
While investigating Tsurumi Island with Lumine, Paimon remained suspicious of Ronava and Lin En’s presence. She later became separated from Lumine in a purple haze and fled two pursuing Rifthounds into the cave where the pair were sheltering. Ronava drove the creatures away 27 29.
Paimon secured Ronava’s help in searching for Lumine by promising not to interfere in their affairs or disclose their whereabouts to the God of Cryo. Ronava enforced the demand by holding her spear across Paimon’s neck 29.
The following morning, Paimon accompanied them along a narrow cliffside path. After Ronava destroyed a many-eyed monster and collapsed, Paimon tried to arrest her and Lin En’s fall, but could only slow them briefly before falling with them 30.
At the ravine floor, Lin En urged Paimon to find Lumine. Despite her fear of the dangers outside, she agreed, and he used his remaining Anemo to lift her toward the cliff top. Paimon returned with Lumine, enabling the injured pair’s rescue 31 32.
Return to Inazuma
Paimon traveled back with the group, sheltering in an abandoned island cabin when a storm interrupted their voyage. Lumine revealed that Paimon had eaten all the food in her backpack. Once they reached Inazuma, Paimon accompanied Lumine to report their commission to Katheryne 33 34.
At Arataki Itto’s Onikabuto tournament, Paimon defended Lumine’s defeat, mocked Itto as “Cowherd,” and blamed Lin En’s presence for their loss. She then encouraged Lin En to compete, though she dismissed his eventual victory as luck 35 36.
During the Abyss invasion, Paimon approached Lumine on Tenshukaku’s roof after Aether escaped with Asmoday. She tugged at Lumine’s clothes, visibly uncertain about what had happened 37.
Appearance
- Small stature: Described as a tiny white figure with little hands and a small face 13 29.
- Floating movement: Usually hovers or flies beside Lumine rather than walking 23 27.
- Childish voice: Her cry for help is explicitly described as childish 29.
Personality
Paimon is easily frightened, particularly by Ronava, Rifthounds, and dangerous heights. She hides behind Lumine when threatened and clings to Lin En’s clothes on the cliffside path. Nevertheless, she overcomes her fear to seek help when Lin En and Ronava are trapped and injured 13 27 30 31.
She is talkative, teasing, and quick to defend Lumine. Her recurring “Jinx” nickname for Lin En becomes a source of banter even after he praises her rescue effort. Her concern remains genuine: she checks that both he and Ronava are safe before finally relaxing 23 32 35.
Abilities & Skills
Flight
Paimon can hover and fly independently, including while searching for others 23 29.
- Limited carrying strength: Cannot support Lin En and Ronava’s combined weight; her attempt only briefly slows their fall 30.
- Vulnerable to strong winds: The monster’s wingbeats nearly blow her away, forcing her to cling to Lin En 30.
- Assisted ascent: Uses Lin En’s remaining Anemo to reach the top of the ravine and search for Lumine 31.
