Background / History

Arrival and Ronava’s Rescue

Lin En arrived in Teyvat with knowledge of its game counterpart and expected Ronava to appear gravely injured during Snezhnaya’s fourth act. He waited a week with little sustenance before rescuing her and tending to her in a crude shelter 1. His initial rescue relied on a one-hour power trial card; its effects expired by the time he reached the hut, leaving him exhausted 4.

His system began issuing tasks involving Ronava, including a timed demand to administer medicine by mouth under threat of lifelong impotence. Although frightened by both the task and Ronava’s reaction, he completed it and gained his first wisp of her authority. He resolved to earn more rewards so that he could eventually protect her 2.

When their shelter became unsafe, Lin En carried Ronava toward Liyue Harbor. Rain forced them into a cave, where he built a fire and stayed beside her through a fever before carrying her into the city 4 5.

Liyue and the First Chasm Expedition

A system quest sent Lin En to gather a red spider lily near Wuwang Hill. Hilichurls injured him and crushed the flower; his attempt to fight back exhausted his Authority of Death after killing only one attacker. Zhongli rescued him, and Lin En returned to Ronava with the flower, which had been restored by the time he reached the inn. Completing the quest earned him a Geo Vision 8.

In The Chasm, Lin En guarded Ronava while she absorbed power from the Nail of Retribution. His Geo constructs could distract the attacking Ruin Serpent but could not seriously damage it. When it lunged at Ronava, he intercepted the attack and was pierced through the chest 11.

Ronava destroyed the serpent and carried him out. Zhongli’s protective contract prevented the injury from killing him, and Lin En awoke after three days unconscious. He explained that he had saved Ronava because he did not want her sacrificed to the Heavenly Principles—not because he intended to use her to seize power 11 12.

Dragonspine and Mondstadt

After recovering, Lin En accompanied Ronava to Dragonspine. There, an illusion placed him in a peaceful Liyue with a gentler Ronava and a little girl who eventually called him “Dad.” He rejected the illusion because someone was waiting for him outside, receiving a bell before the scene shattered 14 16.

He later resisted a cube’s attempt to control him through the promise of immense elemental power. Together with Ronava, he helped defeat a dragon remnant near the Skyfrost Nail and temporarily took responsibility for the little dragon summoned through its portal 18 19.

In Mondstadt, Venti offered to teach him Anemo. During the training, Istaroth identified him as a Descender outside Teyvat and the Heavenly Principles’ laws, transformed his training bead into an Anemo Vision, and took his bell. Lin En trained for a week before leaving, later entrusting the little dragon to Lumine for its return to Natlan 21 22 23.

Inazuma and Tsurumi Island

Lin En accompanied Ronava to investigate Tsurumi Island’s disappearances under an agreement with Yae Miko. Before departing, Ronava refined his Anemo sword technique and admitted that she had chosen to keep him close because he wanted to remain in the world and had once taken a blow for her 26.

Within the island’s warped passages, Lin En repurposed Zhongli’s spent protective talisman to absorb Geo and help navigate toward a formation’s core. The process also drained his own Geo, leaving him weak 28.

During a later battle, he cut through a monster’s eyes to create an opening for Ronava. When she collapsed after destroying it, he caught her and attempted to cushion their fall with Anemo. The recharged talisman saved him from another fatal impact but shattered, and he suffered a badly injured arm 30 31.

While sheltering from a storm afterward, Ronava kissed him and said she did not regret bringing him along. Before they left Inazuma, she gave him a dark-red longsword that could transform into a bracelet 33 39.

Sumeru, Fontaine, and Natlan

In Sumeru, Lin En entered a Genius Invokation TCG tournament, winning two rounds before losing decisively to Cyno. He subsequently accompanied Ronava to Mount Damavand, supported her against a regenerating monster by severing its vines, and escaped a confrontation with Apep 41 45 46.

At Vourukasha Oasis, a system quest to prepare Ronava a feast rewarded him with his third wisp of the Authority of Death and a cultivation technique 47.

In Fontaine, Lin En planned a sightseeing day for Ronava and initiated a kiss in public. A later canal-cruise mission offered Hydro affinity, and he obtained a low-health strength talent through the system’s Lucky Wheel 50 52 55. He then fought Arlecchino in a duel where both withheld their full strength; his healing sustained him through repeated injuries, and his final strike injured her wrist 56.

In Natlan, he accompanied Ronava’s investigation of the Celestial Nail and fought alongside Capitano near a portal, using Geo constructs and sword attacks to repel monsters 59 62.

Return to Liyue and Yilong Wharf

Lin En and Ronava returned to Liyue nearly penniless. A mysterious man whom Ronava could not see manipulated Lin En’s system to borrow one million Mora in his name, leaving him with a two-million-Mora debt 64.

Lin En accepted a five-hundred-thousand-Mora commission to locate a missing exploration team in The Chasm, recruiting Chongyun to meet its two-person requirement 69. During the expedition, he and Ronava were ambushed by the Tsaritsa and the Jester. Lin En deliberately endured the injured Jester’s attacks to strengthen his talent, then combined his powers with Ronava’s assault. Their attack broke the Tsaritsa’s ice defenses and forced both enemies to retreat, but left him severely injured 74. Zhongli subsequently arranged recovery lodging at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor 76.

In the Yilong Wharf area, a missing-person job led Lin En and Ronava to kidnappers selling travelers to a mine in The Chasm. They captured and interrogated suspects, dismantled mountain outposts, and rescued captives 80 81 82 84 85 86. Lin En personally freed five people from a hunter’s shack and three herb gatherers from a cave. With the captives returned to their families, he and Ronava planned to leave the mine and its Millelith insider to Zhongli while establishing a local Wangsheng Funeral Parlor branch 86.

Personality

Lin En’s commitment to Ronava develops beyond the system’s rewards. Despite initially fearing her threats, he refuses to abandon her while she is injured and repeatedly risks his life to protect her. His desire for greater strength is explicitly tied to sharing her burdens rather than hiding behind her 2 11 21.

He is easily flustered by affection, prone to nervous jokes, and quick to complain about dangerous tasks. Nevertheless, he studies diligently under Venti and accepts Ronava’s practical corrections to his fighting technique 2 8 23 26.

His optimism can clash with Ronava’s cynicism: when she calls his interpretation of Asmoday’s behavior naive, he calls it optimism 38. That outlook does not prevent ruthlessness toward enemies. During the kidnapping investigation, he kills two prisoners, including one who believed he had been released, and uses their deaths to pressure the remaining captive into cooperating 82.
