Personality

Lumine is fiercely protective of Paimon. Believing Ronava nearly killed her in Snezhnaya, she draws her sword immediately upon their reunion. Even after hearing Ronava's explanation, she refuses to trust her and avoids a fight partly because Ronava's remaining strength is unknown 13.

Her suspicion does not prevent her from helping others. She stays aboard a damaged passenger ship to assist its crew, rescues the injured Lin En, and offers to escort him and Ronava through an area still threatened by purple haze and Rifthounds 24 32. She also withholds judgment during the Tsurumi investigation, choosing to investigate before accusing them of involvement 27.

History

Snezhnaya Incident and Liyue Confrontation

Before their meeting in Liyue Harbor, Lumine witnessed Ronava threaten Paimon in Snezhnaya. Lumine credits the Jester with preventing Paimon's death. Ronava disputes that interpretation, claiming she intended only to retrieve Paimon for Celestia 13.

When Ronava appears in Liyue with Lin En, Lumine draws the Sword of Descension and demands an explanation. Lin En intervenes, explaining that Ronava is gathering power to oppose Phanes. Lumine eventually lowers her sword but explicitly refuses to trust Ronava. Afterward, she decides to return to Snezhnaya and report the encounter 13.

Journey to Inazuma

At Liyue Harbor, Lumine reunites with a little dragon that rushes into her arms. After Lin En explains how it came into his care, she agrees to return it to Natlan after visiting Inazuma. Before boarding, she says it should be safe to leave the dragon with Hu Tao 23.

Lumine and Paimon join the same passenger ship as Lin En and Ronava. During the voyage, a sea monster specifically targets Lumine. She deflects its attacks, withstands its breath, and wounds its jaw. Ronava identifies it as a pseudo-demon god created by Rhinedottir, then helps Lin En destroy its control device 23 24.

After Ronava flies away carrying Lin En, Lumine remains to help the crew. Belowdecks, she and Paimon discover black barriers already sealing the hull's damaged sections 24.

Tsurumi Island Investigation and Rescue

Lumine encounters Lin En and Ronava while investigating Tsurumi Island with Paimon. Although wary of their presence, she declines to accuse them without evidence 27.

Purple haze later separates her from Paimon. After Paimon finds her again and leads her to an injured Lin En and Ronava, Lumine provides medical supplies and thanks them for saving Paimon. She carries Lin En out of the ravine using Anemo, then accompanies the pair back because lingering haze and Rifthounds still threaten them 29 31 32.

A storm interrupts the return voyage. Lumine leads the boats to a small island and builds a fire in an abandoned cabin. During the stop, she recalls that she has already informed the Tsaritsa of Ronava's whereabouts; the Tsaritsa has instructed the Fatui to watch Ronava and closely monitor Lin En. After returning to Inazuma, Lumine leaves to report her commission to Katheryne 33 34.

Beetle Tournament and Abyss Invasion

Lumine participates in Itto's Onikabuto tournament but loses to Red Whirlwind. She stays to watch Lin En's unexpected victory over Itto, then leaves with Paimon 35 36.

During the Abyss invasion of Inazuma City, Lumine fights at the front alongside Shogunate soldiers. When Aether emerges above Tenshukaku, she rushes onto the roof and blocks his departure, demanding to know where he is going 37.

Aether tells her that she does not understand. Asmoday intervenes against Ronava and opens a golden portal; Lumine tries to stop their escape, but Aether slips past her. He tells her to take care of herself before disappearing, leaving Lumine on the roof watching the place where he vanished 37.

Relationships

• Paimon — Traveling companion whom Lumine fiercely protects. She confronts Ronava over Paimon's safety and comforts Paimon after their reunion on Tsurumi Island 13 32.
• Aether — Her brother. Lumine attempts to question and stop him during the Inazuma invasion, but he leaves with Asmoday without explaining his objective 37.
• Ronava — Distrusted adversary with whom she sometimes cooperates. Lumine accepts a temporary truce over their opposition to Phanes, but continues reporting her movements to Snezhnaya 13 33.
• Lin En — Initially treated with suspicion because he accompanies Ronava. Lumine later rescues him and escorts him away from Tsurumi Island's remaining dangers 13 32.
• The Tsaritsa — Receives Lumine's information about Ronava and responds by ordering Fatui surveillance of Ronava and Lin En 33.
• The little dragon — Recognizes Lumine and eagerly reunites with her. She agrees to arrange its return to Natlan 23.

Trivia

• During the sea-monster encounter, the narration briefly calls the weapon Lumine puts away the Dull Blade, although the fight otherwise names it the Sword of Descension 24.
