Background / History
Admission and First Soul Fight
Sun Buyu specially recruited Yu Feng into Heaven Dou Academy, where he became Fang Lin’s roommate. His arrival coincided with Fang Lin standing up from a medicinal bath, making their first meeting unexpectedly embarrassing. Yu Feng described attending the academy as his first time leaving home and eagerly insisted on accompanying Fang Lin to Heaven Dou City 7 8.
After Fang Lin’s scheduled arena opponent withdrew, Yu Feng offered to register for a Soul Fighting badge and spar with him. His swift probing attacks and two Soul Skills failed to overcome Fang Lin’s saber defense. The final exchange shown sent Yu Feng flying several meters; afterward, he complained about Fang Lin’s unexpectedly great strength 8 9.
Academy Tournament and Gambling
Yu Feng wagered all 106 Gold Soul Coins of his savings on Fang Lin against Yang Yue, treating the size of his stake as proof of his confidence. Later, Fang Lin persuaded him to bet 200 Gold Soul Coins on Dugu Yan in their quarterfinal. Dugu Yan failed to appear, giving Fang Lin the victory and leaving Yu Feng to discover that Fang Lin himself had been the bookmaker 12 14 15.
Fang Lin subsequently returned the money, retaining ten Gold Soul Coins for carriage expenses. Despite lamenting his losses and recalling his grandfather’s warning against gambling, Yu Feng resumed placing small bets during the tournament. He congratulated Fang Lin after the championship final but regretted not betting more on his victory 15 16 18.
Imperial Fighting Team Training
Under Qin Ming, Yu Feng joined the Imperial Fighting Team’s coordination exercises. His first documented pairing with Yu Tianheng failed against the Shi Brothers and Ye Lingling: the defenders repeatedly blocked his approaches, and Yu Tianheng’s area attack nearly struck him. Qin Ming used the defeat to explain the importance of knowing teammates’ attack ranges, timing, and skill effects 22 23.
During the subsequent weighted endurance run, Yu Feng struggled with his load but helped support Ye Lingling alongside Dugu Yan. When Fang Lin told him to go ahead, he initially refused to abandon the group. Once Fang Lin clarified that he should fetch the Shi Brothers, Yu Feng brought them back, helping the entire team finish before dark 24 25.
After Fang Lin returned from six months away, Yu Feng led the teasing that broke the awkwardness of their reunion. In a later two-against-four exercise, he kept Dugu Yan occupied with ranged attacks while Fang Lin engaged the Shi Brothers. Repeated use of his second Soul Skill eventually depleted his Soul Power, allowing Dugu Yan to return to the main fight 31 34 35.
Heaven Dou City Outings
Yu Feng continued visiting Heaven Dou City with Fang Lin and Dugu Yan, following arena betting opportunities and seeking out food. On one outing, he introduced Fang Lin to a stall selling refreshing food produced by a Food System Soul Master. His casual suggestion that they simply eat at the stall inspired Fang Lin to consider trading Immortal Herb consumption methods directly with Dugu Bo and consuming the herbs there 37 41.
Appearance
- Build and complexion: Pale and skinny at his introduction 8.
- Hair: Short and blond 11.
- Later growth: Noticeably taller after Fang Lin’s six-month absence 31.
- Martial Soul Possession: Pale cyan feathers grow along his arms, and his hands become hooked claws surrounded by pale cyan air currents 8.
Personality
Yu Feng is exuberant, sociable, and persistent. He attached himself to Fang Lin almost immediately after their introduction and struck up a friendly conversation with Dugu Yan simply after encountering her on the way to the cafeteria. He also enjoys gossip and teasing, particularly when Fang Lin is the target 8 11 31 42.
Food and gambling are recurring interests. He explicitly includes liking tasty food in his team introduction, frequently snacks during outings, and struggles to resist attractive betting odds even after being cheated. His playful behavior does not prevent loyalty: during the endurance exercise, he considered leaving exhausted teammates behind incompatible with remaining on the Imperial Fighting Team 16 20 22 25.
Abilities & Skills
Wind Chime Bird
A bird-type Beast Martial Soul associated with both agility attacks and the relatively rare Flight System classification 14 22.
- Possession effects: Produces feathered arms, clawed hands, and visible wind currents 8.
- Mobility: Supports rapid ground-level movement, abrupt changes of direction, and attacks from an opponent’s flank 8.
- Flight limitation: Although classified as a Flight System Soul Master, Yu Feng does not demonstrate flight in his two-ring duel with Fang Lin 8.
First Soul Skill: Wind Chime Thrust
A rapid claw assault that gathers a sharp edge around his claws and turns his movement into a cyan blur 8.
- Application: Quickly closes distance to attack vulnerable areas, including the shoulder and neck 8.
- Observed limit: Fang Lin intercepts it after activating Hell Power and knocks Yu Feng backward 8.
Second Soul Skill: Wind Wing Slash
A ranged attack that releases a cyan wind blade nearly two meters long 8.
- Defensive use: Interrupts Fang Lin’s pursuit even though Fang Lin splits the blade head-on 8.
- Harassment: Allows Yu Feng to occupy Dugu Yan from a distance during group combat 35.
- Environmental damage: Leaves a smooth cut through part of a tree’s crown during training 31.
- Soul Power cost: Repeated use exhausts his reserves and prevents him from maintaining pressure 35.
Combat Tactics and Limitations
Yu Feng tests an opponent’s reactions, defensive gaps, and habits through quick attacks, then disengages before committing to another approach 8.
- Team role: Seeks openings to reach protected rear-line opponents or creates opportunities for a stronger close-range teammate 22 23.
- Defensive matchups: Cannot force his way through the Shi Brothers’ defenses head-on 23 34.
- Endurance: Struggles with prolonged weighted running; his stamina is substantially less suited to the exercise than that of the team’s stronger physical fighters 24 25.
Relationships
- Fang Lin — Roommate, friend, and teammate whom he calls “Brother Lin.” Their relationship combines admiration for Fang Lin’s diligence and strength with teasing, gambling schemes, and frequent city outings 8 14 16 31 41.
- Dugu Yan — Teammate whom he calls “Sister Yan.” She nicknames him “Little Fengfeng”; he readily praises her, accompanies her shopping, and notices changes in her behavior and scent 11 20 41.
- Yu Tianheng — Teammate and early combat partner. Their failed exercise exposes poor coordination, while the weighted run gives them an opportunity to cooperate more closely 22 23 25.
- Ye Lingling — Teammate whom he helps support during the endurance exercise, taking turns with Dugu Yan 25.
- Shi Brothers — Teammates whose defenses repeatedly stop his attacks. He later follows their two-person arena winning streak and encourages betting on their continued success 23 37.
- Qin Ming — Team instructor who recognizes his talent and trains him in coordination, endurance, and understanding teammates’ Soul Skills 14 23 25.
- Sun Buyu — Teacher responsible for his special recruitment into Heaven Dou Academy 8 14.
